Vault By Vans x Palm Angels – Sk8-Hi Reissue VLT LX (First Look)

info via Hypebeast:

“With a number of solo skate shoe drops under its belt, Palm Angels has now teased its first collaborative footwear with Vans. The pairs were teased on the Palm Angels FW22 runway show, and newly surfaced images provide a closer look at the upcoming silhouette.

Uppers arrive in a tri-tone color scheme featuring red contrast-stitched suede overlays towards the front, sail-white canvas materials across the laterals, and a nubuck overlay on the high-top heel. Branding accents include ripped Palm Angels tape pasted over the Vans sidestripe, a variety of metallic palm tree pins decorating the flat laces, and a Vans skateboard motif tongue tab. Semitranslucent sole units display distorted checkerboard-print bottoms, and red Off the Wall tags are pasted on the heel to complete the look.”

It’s been awhile since I’ve given my own personal input on a release, but I felt that these needed to be addressed.  To be honest with you, being a longtime Vans collector, I don’t think this collaboration fits in with our beloved brand.  If this is Vans’ way of trying to reach a new demographic, be very careful that you don’t lose your credibility with your most loyal supporters, who in most ways, are the “anti” mainstream crowd, for lack of a better term.  Not sure how a brand like this fits into our culture or style, but we will see what other crazy decisions Vans makes in the near future.  I think someone misread the memo, and collaborated with the wrong “Palms” brand, hehe. -Guamstyles

My Top 5 Vans of 2021

I haven’t done a top “X” list for a few, but since everyone’s got one this year, here’s my top 5 of 2021. With the exception of the jjjjounds, I’ve completed the sets for each of the packs featured, and that’s usually the indication that I really like that particular release. They’re all that good. In no particular order: Vault x Undefeated OG Old Skools; Vault x Bedwin & the Heartbreakers Pack; Vault x JSP Chukka 79 VLT LX’s; Vault x jjjjound OG Sk8-Mid LX’s; “31 Days of Vans” Skate Half Cab. Vault by Vans x Haven – OG Lampin VLT LX (10.23.21)

HAVEN-x-VANS-HVN-VV-05-LAMPIN-LX-VANS-Vault-FW21-Oct-Web-1

After joining forces in 2019 and 2020, Vault by Vans and Haven are back for their third collaboration in as many years: a technical take on the ‘90s Lampin. Though the OG Lampin VLT LX’s name may imply laid-back luxury, Haven has given it a striking material upgrade — making for a shoe that’s equally apt at adventuring as it is relaxing.

The Vault by Vans x Haven OG Lampin VLT LX’s upper is crafted of supple, water-resistant hairy suede, contrasted by tonal nubuck on the medial midfoot and the heel stripe. The shoe’s interior is geared towards ultimate comfort thanks to a soft pigskin leather lining supported with a cushy padded collar. Dual-branded leather insoles feature ULTRACUSH™ HD foam that provides a premium feel, both on and off-board. There’s also a laser-etched nubuck brand tab, nodding to the design’s collaborative nature. Down below, Vault by Vans’ signature vulcanized waffle rubber outsoles are embellished with contrasting black foxing and a black heel bumper to complete the details.

The Vault by Vans x Haven OG Lampin VLT LX will release in store at HAVEN Toronto and HAVEN Vancouver as well as on the HAVEN website on October 23, and is priced at $150 CAD. In-store releases will occur at 12:00 PM local time, while the online drop will go down at 11:00 AM EST/8:00 AM PST. Vault By Vans x JSP – Chukka 79 VLT LX “Roses Grown In Granite” (5.12.21)

VANSJSPMAY121

Vans is excited to announce the second instalment of a footwear collaboration with skater and entrepreneur Jimmy Gorecki of JSP (Jimmy Sweatpants). This newest iteration of the Chukka 79 VLT LX is delivered in knock out pink from the California footwear label’s Vault by Vans division.

Titled “Roses Grown in Granite,” Gorecki continues to stay true to both his focus on quality textiles and his love for Philadelphia skateboarding, with another premium take on his favorite Vans silhouette, the Chukka Boot. Butter soft suede uppers in Marshmallow and Pink play against a Crystal Blue translucent bumper and waffle sole, while a knock out Racing Pink checkerboard midsole sets things off with “JSP,” “215” and “LOVE” hits in a custom Philly hand style by Joe Lees. The tags are repeated on matching Vans Ultracush® insole, driving home Gorecki’s love for all the skaters who made the city blocks at 15th and JFK a place of legend

The Vault by Vans x JSP “Roses Grown in Granite” Chukka 79 VLT LX is available May 12th at 10am PST in sizes 3.5 to 13 exclusively at  www.jimmysweatpants.com
