Vans x OTH Shop Canada (video)

Located in the heart of downtown Montreal, Off The Hook has been serving up the best streetwear to local Canadians, and Vans decided OTHSHOP would make a great partnership, for their new venture, of opening a lifestyle boutique that offers all of their premium line stuff, such as Vault, California, OTW, and so on.  There’s been rumors going around of this idea, and it’s a great way to showcase all of the great Vans that aren’t offered at your average Vans retailer.  The store is set to open up on May 5th, 2011, on the 3rd floor of Off The Hook’s current store.  There are more stores set to open across the globe, so stay tuned as more info becomes available, and until then, check out this video that was put together by Vincent Tsang, and Johnny F Kim.

Offthewall.TV presents: Pass The Bucket with Dennis Martinez

For the most recent feature from the Vans Offthewall.TV Pass The Bucket series, Vans documented the story of Dennis Martinez, a World Freestyle Champion skateboarder in 1977, and the U.S. champion in 1978, at the ripe old age of 16.  With a monthly salary of $40k, and all the fame a teenager could ask for, he got sucked into all the bad things that came along with that lifestyle, including a serious drug addiction, that lost him everything he had worked so hard for.  Now sober, he’s initiated an outreach program, to help convicted drug addicts, and to educate the youth on the life they have ahead of them, if they choose drugs.  His San Diego-based program is proving to be successful, with his teachings and positive influence, and honestly, if this type of thing isn’t talked about in the home, then the kids don’t think it’s really that big of a problem.  So all you young punks out there, who are living the life of the party right now, sit down and shut up for a few minutes, and watch this video.  It’s worth your time, trust me.

Video: Yelawolf wearing Vault Taka Hayashi Akats, what?!

I was watching some of the Yelawolf x SXSW (2011) videos that HighSnobiety had produced, and I noticed that Yelawolf was skating some Vault Taka Hayashi Akats.  The vids are in black and white, so I couldn’t tell which colorway they were, but they were the all suede ones from last season.  Dope, Yela gets down with Vaults!  He most definitely knows what’s up.  Check out episode 2, and then peep the rest of the episodes over on Vimeo, to see if you can catch any other glimpses as well.

Vans Vault x Ludwig Van “Deadstock Canvas” Project (Video)

Vans Vault and Ludwig Van clothing brand, have gotten together on this really cool, and unique collaboration project. Dubbed the “Deadstock Canvas Project”, Mike Dytri of Ludwig Van, art directed this project, with the focal point on some rare, early 90s Vans canvas’s that he had been sitting on for awhile, that were sourced through an auction. He wanted to do something great with these, so he got in touch with some people he knew, who knew some people, who knew some people, and the project came to life. There will be 290 pairs total, in the classic Era style, as well as a D-Ring belt for this project, and the releases will be scaled back to only a few Vault dealers, mainly because of the amount of material they have to work with. Peep the vid for the awesome patterns, and prints, and patiently wait for these limited pieces to arrive!

Video: Vans – Custom Culture Project 2011

Words via FreshnessMag:

“Art and design students can resonate with the fact that Art is not taken as seriously in many high schools as it should and VANS is taking matters in its own hands by initiating the Custom Culture program. It is a program that pushes the talents of young artists and gives an opportunity for students to customize shoes in a nation wide competition format. VANS will select ten high schools from each region (North/South/East/West/California) and each will eventually move onto the final showcase held in June 2011. Five schools will be given a travel budget to make way to New York and registration is open right now. Also take a look at the campaign trailers featuring the veterans in the game including Mister Cartoon and Lanie Alabanza-Barcena as well as the VANS creative team.”

Video: Pass the Bucket with Tony Alva

Offthewall.TV has just put out this video series called Pass the Bucket, and they had Tony Alva do a feature, that I must say is a nice, heartfelt short, about his ups and downs in his professional skating career, and life in general, and how he let his ego and image control his behavior.  This one is worth watching! Thanks to OTWS member 5150marley for the heads up on this one!

Vans OTW Canada – A Night at the Waldorf (Video)

The OTW advocates recently dropped in, to the Waldorf in Vancouver, for the Knowshow that recently took place.  They released this short film, to coincide with the event.  I feel there’s going to be a bigger push for OTW this year, as the sub-brand gains more recognition, and acceptance into the mainstream!

Happy 45th Anniversary Vans!

We’re a few days late, but back in 1966, on March 16th, in sunny Southern California, Paul Van Doren opened the very first “factory-to-you” retail store, where he manufactured “made-to-order” canvas deck shoes, all made in-house, from beginning to end.  The Vans history is long, and rich, with it’s share of ups and downs, but this was where the vision started.  They started with the style#44, aka the Authentic, and it is still the most popular Vans style today.

“Vans joined the select few companies since 1900 producing vulcanised deck shoes for boating, was then infamously adopted by the dogtown crew who henceforth revolutionised skateboarding forever, entered the 80s ‘checkerboard era’ shortly followed by a checkered history after filing chapter 11, an ownership change, moving production to the east… before shifting seamlessly into the marketing giant they exist as as of march 16 2011. although in my heart of hearts i know sacrifices were made to the end product in moving production offshore in 1994, the brand is much bigger than that & it is this legacy & the narrative that vans shoes embody that has changed the face of youth subculture & remains timeless.”, –theothersideofthepillow blog

A special shout-out goes to the folks over at theothersideofthepillow for sharing this info with us, and also OTWS member erwin for giving the heads up!
