Vault by Vans x Palace x Calvin Klein – “CalVans cK1” OG Authentic LX (4.8.22)

CK_palace_shoes_11913_640x@2x

Vans and Palace Skateboards team up again, this time as part of Palace’s collaboration with Calvin Klein’s cK1 label.  They chose a Vault Originals this time, by way of the OG Authentic LX, which they’ve named the “CalVans”, which can be seen as a nifty custom text logo printed on white canvas, in an all-over pattern.  The most interesting part to us, is that it’s a Vault, instead of the usual Skate silo, so that’s pretty cool.  Palace branding can be found on the custom heel license plate, as well as the footbed heel pad.

Sorry for the late info, but these dropped last week, and only smaller sizes are left on the Palace website for $118.

Vault by Vans x Krink – Collection (3.25.22)

8_KR_AUTHENTICL_SLV_TAG_edc0bfde-3956-42d2-8ab6-cdf592680ae0_2048x

Leading with a sense of DIY and empowered by creative expression, Vault by Vans is proud to partner with Brooklyn-based Krink. Krink began as the first ink and paint market brand for graffiti writers and grew exponentially into an international art supply brand with continually expanding collections of apparel, artist tools and accessories. Inspired by Krink’s founder, Craig Costello, who grew up writing graffiti, skateboarding, and listening to punk and hip-hop, DIY sensibility informed much of what he and his community did in their youth. These core tenants influenced the early beginning of Krink and have remained an important part of the brand’s ethos. This collaboration with Vault by Vans celebrates these creative communities through functional design

Shot in Los Angeles, California by De’lon, the collection features artist Erin D. Garcia, two members of Krink’s creative community. The six-piece collection features three footwear silhouettes and three apparel pieces that celebrate the history and heritage of Krink with functional design details for graffiti writer’s everyday wear. Leading the footwear assortment is the Authentic VLT LX that has been remastered in Krink’s signature silver. It features a thick-gauged ballistic nylon upper, which provides an elevated level of breathability while remaining durable, gray monochromatic outsole, silver metal eyelets and 3M reflective heel pull. The Old Skool VLT LX will be available in two classic offerings of black and navy. Each model features a Krink New York City logo inspired by the iconic super permanent stickers developed by the brand that can adhere to any surface. Vans’ iconic Sidestripe has been updated with a 3M reflective material along with a heel pull. Each of the footwear models are finished with 3M reflective Krink branding on the tongue and co-branded UltraCush™ footbeds.

Krink is rooted in making tools through modification and repurposing. From custom inks and paints to specialty delivery systems, Krink is dedicated to invention and creativity, while bringing functionality with art and design. This philosophy is carried through to the three-piece apparel assortment that includes Vault by Vans x Krink shirt featuring a custom tag created by Costello, while the Photo Shirt features a photo from Costello’s archives of a jacket he modified – sewing in a hidden pocket to stash paint and markers. The photo serves as inspiration for the Vault x Krink Drill Chore Coat, which brings the stash pocket to life. The tonal black shell includes two interior 3M reflective pockets with contrasting stitches visible on the exterior, a nod to Costello’s original diy sewing.

The Vault by Vans x Krink Collection will be available beginning March 25, 2022, at select Vault by Vans retailers.

Vault by Vans x Blends – Unreleased Samples Pack (UTP Exclusive Preview!) (3.12.22)

IMG_0950

There’s been a little bit of buzz surrounding another upcoming Blends Vans release for the past week.  Blends has been posting up a few tasteful pics, shot by L.A.’s most notable and iconic photographer, Estevan Oriol, featuring his own personal Chevy Impala lowrider.  We always love a great photoshoot campaign, but we also like to see some more realistic photos of the products we intend to buy, or attempt to buy in this case lol!  Well, as far as we know, this is the first close up look you’re going to get of this collection.  We’ve been fortunate enough to get our hands on the set early, so I hope you enjoy.

So, a little bit of backstory.  Being deeply involved in this Vans sneaker collecting community, we naturally get to hear all the gossip around what’s coming, and we’ve had some loose knowledge about this collection for just about a year or so now.  This pack was originally slated to be an Asia-exclusive, and Blends weren’t even sure if they were going to bring some pairs to the USA.  Maybe not even enough for a release, but maybe more of like a friends & family thing.  Well, back in August, Blends let us get a sneak peek of a few CAD mockups when we had our Wearing Waffles meetup at Blends Costa Mesa, but we haven’t seen actual shoe pics until about a month ago.  Well, last week we got a text msg that the pack is here and will be releasing soon.  We were kind of blindsided, but hella stoked!  So here we are.

The pack consists of 3 pairs of Vaults: two Sk8-Hi Reissue Zip VLT LX’s, and an Old Skool VLT LX.  You may be thinking that these look familiar, and you’d be correct.  These were based on samples of the first 3 “Bones” shoes that ended up going in a slightly different direction.  The most notable feature, is the black toe bumper found on all 3 pairs.  The Chili Pepper Sk8-Hi Zip features a marshmallow bone jazz stripe, instead of the original black one, and the Old Skool comes without a medial zipper this time, and oh yeah the medial bone is tonal to the black leather.  For those who missed out on the OG Black/White Sk8-Hi Reissue Zip LX, then this will be your chance to get the closest thing to it.  The only change from the original, is the toe bumper.  Well, almost the only thing.  Each of these 3 pairs are built on the new VLT silo, which includes thick UltraCush removable footbeds, for ultra comfort, as well as premium full-grain motorcycle leathers like the past pairs.  Keep that in mind in case you prefer a half size difference to accomodate the minor difference in thickness.  Each pair will come in a black Blends drawer box, and black dustbag.

Pricing hasn’t been set yet, but the very first Sk8-Hi Reissue Zip LX was $160, and the Old Skools were $140 I think?  So expect prices to be AT LEAST that much.  As for now, we don’t know if there’s going to be an in-store release, or if it’s strictly online, so stay tuned to Blends for all info.

Update as of 3/11/22 2PM PST:  The pack is going to be released strictly via online raffle on Saturday 3/12/22 at 12PM PST and at the following Asia retailers:

Vault by Vans x Museum of Peace & Quiet – Collection (3.11.22)

VN0A4BVEBC31_launches_hero_landscape_1

Vault by Vans is teaming up with Museum of Peace & Quiet on a 4-piece collection, featuring two OG Style 36 LXs, and two OG Mule LXs.  The pack consists primarily of Green and Marshmallow colorways, in different variations, with the exception of one of the OG Mule’s coming in a Tuffet colorway.  The shoes are clean and simple.  No gaudy branding, or logos, just an understated simple aesthetic, using premium leathers throughout.

“I think this collaboration is a perfect mesh between both brands. Vans have been a go-to staple shoe for as long as we can remember. Staying true to our brand boasting a pure, uncluttered aesthetic inspired by the stillness and serenity of nature.” says Museum of Peace & Quiet co-founder Christion Lennon.

“It went back 15 years ago; that’s when I got my first pair of Vans that I wore almost every day. I think this partnership hits close to home for us. We always have an affinity for classics which Vans has proved time and time again.” says Ashley Lennon.

The Vault by Vans x Museum of Peace & Quiet Collection will be available beginning tomorrow, March 11, 2022, online and at select Vault by Vans retailers.

Vault By Vans x Palm Angels – Sk8-Hi Reissue VLT LX (First Look)

https-_hypebeast.com_image_2022_03_palm-angels-vans-sk8-hi-release-info-001

info via Hypebeast:

“With a number of solo skate shoe drops under its belt, Palm Angels has now teased its first collaborative footwear with Vans. The pairs were teased on the Palm Angels FW22 runway show, and newly surfaced images provide a closer look at the upcoming silhouette.

Uppers arrive in a tri-tone color scheme featuring red contrast-stitched suede overlays towards the front, sail-white canvas materials across the laterals, and a nubuck overlay on the high-top heel. Branding accents include ripped Palm Angels tape pasted over the Vans sidestripe, a variety of metallic palm tree pins decorating the flat laces, and a Vans skateboard motif tongue tab. Semitranslucent sole units display distorted checkerboard-print bottoms, and red Off the Wall tags are pasted on the heel to complete the look.”

It’s been awhile since I’ve given my own personal input on a release, but I felt that these needed to be addressed.  To be honest with you, being a longtime Vans collector, I don’t think this collaboration fits in with our beloved brand.  If this is Vans’ way of trying to reach a new demographic, be very careful that you don’t lose your credibility with your most loyal supporters, who in most ways, are the “anti” mainstream crowd, for lack of a better term.  Not sure how a brand like this fits into our culture or style, but we will see what other crazy decisions Vans makes in the near future.  I think someone misread the memo, and collaborated with the wrong “Palms” brand, hehe. -Guamstyles

Vault By Vans x Sarah Andelman – International Women’s Day Collection (3.4.22)

https-_hypebeast.com_image_2022_02_sarah-andelman-vans-vault-women-artists-1

info via Hypebeast:

Sarah Andelman — former creative director of streetwear stalwart colette — is teaming up with Vault by Vans for an exclusive capsule that commemorates International Women’s Day. For this initiative, she hand-picked four inspiring artists from across the globe including Julia Chang, Fumiko Imano, Sindiso Khumalo and Soko. to lend their creative touch to various apparel pieces and footwear silhouettes.

“I have always been a Vans lover,” says Sarah Andelman. “For this Vault by Vans collection, I immediately thought of these four creative women I met in different cities, different years, all under different contexts but they all share a passion for what they do, and they’re all amazing in dealing with their work and personal life. I hope their collections reflect their philosophies and will be appreciated by women of all ages.”

Julia Chang — an artist based in Brooklyn, NY — will often create with paint and ceramics, and much of her art is made to celebrate imperfection. For this collection, she designed with the intention of imagining how her shoes and clothing pieces would live in the real world. She worked her magic on an Authentic LX for adults and an Authentic for kids, both of which feature one of her paintings on top of a washed denim base layer along with yellow jazz stripes and laces. Dropping alongside the kicks are a bucket and watercolor-inspired graphic tee.

Fumiko Imano is widely known for her self-portraits and photomontages that are shot with a 35mm camera and then cut and pasted to create a twin-like aesthetic. She turned to her solo exhibition titled “Somehow Somewhere Sometimes at Some Place for Some Reason” which was on view at Kosaku Kanechika Gallery in 2020 as the muse for her assemblage that entails the OG Sk8-Hi LX and matching Sk8-Hi Reissue for the little ones. A print from Imano’s exhibition is plastered across the yellow canvas upper halves, and “Somehow Somewhere Sometimes at Some Place for Some Reason” spell-outs are found across the iconic side stripes and laces.

Based of out Cape Town, South Africa, Sindiso Kkumalo started her eponymous label in 2015 that focuses on making sustainable clothing, uplifting women of color and highlighting her African heritage. Her mother — who was an activist — serves as the main form of inspiration for her OG Style 24 NTC LX makeup for adults and Classic Slip-On for the kids. An image of her mother on her Kkumalo’s wedding day dressed in Zulu attire is etched onto the side panels of the former and the toe boxes of the latter while traditional Zulu homesteads sit adjacent. Releasing alongside the kicks is an oversized tee that bears water-based ink to showcase the same illustration.

French singer-songwriter, musician, and actress Soko rounds off this assortment. She taps into her bank of childhood memories for this collaboration, calling upon vivid imagery of her cat Felix. She plasters him in all-over fashion across the Old Skool V Platform for adults and the Old Skool V for children. Moreover, she includes a long-sleeved tee and bucket hat that are adorned with sporty graphics.

Peep a closer look at the capsule above and note that it will be dropping on March 4 at select Vault by Vans retailers.

Vault By Vans x Kar – “Dragster” Old Skool VLT LX (2.18.22)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Vault by Vans and Arthur Kar’s L’Art de L’Automobile pay homage to dragster culture with their second collaboration, launching February 18th.

Three bold colorways of the Old Skool VLT LX are given the KAR treatment, with considered detailing that nods to the design of a classic top fuel dragster. Elevated designs elements include Vans’ iconic Sidestripe, with an embroidered flaming exhaust, an embossed ‘vent’ on the suede upper and crystal Waffle outsoles featuring a “Gas” and “Brake” graphics.

For Arthur, who grew up going to dragster races with his father, the collection is a nostalgic one. Taking him one step closer to his dream of flying down the quarter mile in one.

KAR will exclusively drop all three colorways – green, red and yellow – on February 18th, while the red and yellow colorways will launch in select Vault by Vans retailers globally on February 19th.

Vault By Vans x Worksout – “1st Anniversary” Custom OG Authentic LX (2.26.22)

Vans_Vans-by-Worksout-1st-celebrate-collection_05

Vans, the original action sports and lifestyle brand, is proud to present an exclusive capsule collection with Korean streetwear retailer Worksout. The collection, strictly limited to 90 pairs, will be released on February 26th, marking the first anniversary of ‘Vans by Worksout’.

The limited edition collection features the Authentic LX, a classic Vault by Vans silhouette, reimagined in a unique way using natural dyeing. Inspired by a traditional Korean color spectrum, the design highlights the five Obangsaek colors (yellow, blue, red, white, and black) and wishes for good fortune and wellbeing of the store and its customers. The colors, which are obtained from organic sources, give the collection a vintage look. Special shoelaces with 6 strands and cotton webbing provide an even richer feel to the Vault by Vans silhouette.

Worksout was established in 2003. It has since evolved into one of the most visited streetwear addresses in Seoul. In March last year, Vans and Worksout opened the ‘Vans by Worksout’ store on the first floor of the Ryse Hotel in Hongdae, to make Worksout one of the official retailers of ‘Vault by Vans’, the pinnacle category of the brand.

The Vans by Worksout collection will be launched on February 26th, in accordance with the anniversary, with only 90 pairs available. You can find the latest updates about ‘Vans by Worksout’ on the store Instagram account @Vans_Worksout.
