“Basically, some Old Skools” according to PALACE…and I think they couldn’t have said anymore about these lol. Well, technically, there are subtle things to point out, that might interest some of us Vans snobs. There is a large PALACE logo on the heel panel. Custom PALACE heel scabs aka “license plate”, and the Vans flag is located on the lace eyerow, which is a throwback to the 90’s version of the Old Skool.
They’re going to be available in 3 classic icon colorways, Black, STV Navy, and White. No release date or pricing just yet, so keep your ears to the street.

In 1992, skaters created the world’s greatest skate shoe with just scissors and duct tape. They cut down their shoes to make something that could push skateboarding the way they wanted to, and the Half Cab was born. Three decades later, skaters are still pushing forward. Introducing the Skate Half Cab ’92, a new build on a skate classic.
Completely redesigned with skaters in mind, the Skate Classics Half Cab ’92 delivers more of what skaters need to enable maximum progression. The new sidewall finish, checkerboard flag, and “Skateboarding” branding are some of subtle differences to enhance this iconic style. The fully revised upper with molded heel counter, locked-in tongue straps, and a recut of the DURACAP™ underlay offers an essential fit that is more breathable and durable where skaters need it most.
The two-part foxing, featuring a tougher toe knurl, ensures heightened board contact, and the redesigned gum rubber sole that made Vans famous has been made even better with SickStick™ rubber compound and an internal heel shank to deliver more grip, more boardfeel, more support, and more durability. Uppers made from 100% pig leather round out the upgraded design.
The Skate Half Cab ’92 gives the look you want, with the performance benefits real skaters demand. Because skate classics are made for skateboarding.
INCREASED DURABILITY – DURACAP™ reinforced materials, deeper knurl texture on the toe bumpers, and higher sidewall heights provide a more heritage look with increased durability and protection.
FULLY REDESIGNED UPPERS – Reconstructed with a molded heel counter and internal tongue straps for a locked-in fit and more board control.
POPCUSH CUSHIONING – Our best cushioning and impact protection. POPCUSH™ energy return footbeds protect your feet while helping to lessen leg fatigue for longer skate sessions.
Jan 19 22 under Collaborations, Pro, Skate | Comments Off on Vans Skate x Sneeze Mag – Skate Chukka (1.21.22)
Mr. SNEEZE, editor-intern-chief of SNEEZE Magazine — the bicoastal, cross-border, large-format, skateboard-culture publication that low-key victoriously surpassed its 50th issue last fall — has coerced Vans Skateboarding into producing a suede Skate Chukka in three no-muss, no-fuss colors. Declared “the shoe for ’22” by Mr. SNEEZE himself, it’s meant to be “skated and destroyed” as any Chukka should. This attitude was drilled even further into the shoe through subtle design tweaks, such as fatter laces, a heavy-duty heel pull, and the most stompy chunky outsole possible. All in all, it’s very kick-in-the-door, very “off the wall.”
The Vans Skateboarding x Sneeze Magazine Skate Chukka will be sold exclusively viaSneeze Magazine and at the Dime Store in Montreal, Canada, on January 21, at noon E.S.T
I haven’t done a top “X” list for a few, but since everyone’s got one this year, here’s my top 5 of 2021. With the exception of the jjjjounds, I’ve completed the sets for each of the packs featured, and that’s usually the indication that I really like that particular release. They’re all that good. In no particular order: Vault x Undefeated OG Old Skools; Vault x Bedwin & the Heartbreakers Pack; Vault x JSP Chukka 79 VLT LX’s; Vault x jjjjound OG Sk8-Mid LX’s; “31 Days of Vans” Skate Half Cab. Dec 2 21 under Collaborations, Skate | Comments Off on Vans Skate x Premier – 20th Anniversary “Laced” Collection (12.4.21)
A bastion of Michigan skateboarding since the turn of the century, Grand Rapids-based Premier is celebrating 20 years in business this holiday season, and Vans Skateboarding is aiding in the festivities. The two have come together for “Laced” takes on the Skate Grosso Mid and Skate Old Skool, both of which are equal parts elegant and tough.
Arriving in vibrant red and black, the Skate Grosso Mid offers attention-demanding accents, while the Skate Old Skool opts for a tonal black look split with a white Jazz stripe. Each pair is covered with a delicate lace coating — one that quickly frays and tears with wear to reveal a heavy-duty leather base.
This durable leather base is embellished with faux quilted micro-Premier branding, and further ornamentation is provided by embossed midsole hits and inner tongue badges. To finish off the look, both the Skate Grosso Mid and Skate Old Skool are completed by contrast stitching and a traditional gum waffle sole. Each pair is packaged in special co-branded boxes with bespoke tissue paper and comes packaged with a matching pair of lace knit socks.
The Vans Skateboarding x Premier Skate Grosso Mid and Skate Old Skool will be made available for purchase via thepremierstore.com on December 4, alongside a small capsule of Premier’s private label apparel. Nov 1 21 under Collaborations, Pro, Skate | Comments Off on Vans Skate x Palace – Skate Sk8-Hi (11.5.21)
Cultivated in the deepest, darkest depths of a Soho basement, Vans and Palace’s second collaboration of 2021 features three fungi-inspired Sk8-Hi’s, dropping on November 5th.
Back in June, Vans and London based skate brand Palace teamed up for their first, long-awaited collaboration, featuring the Skate Authentic and Palace’s employee-of-the-month, Jeremy the Duck. For this second drop, the two brands turned their attention to another iconic style – the Skate Sk8-Hi. The collection includes three colorways – Black / Blue, Marshmallow and Yellow – covered in some friendly Palace shrooms.
Jeremy steered clear of the dark and damp for this one, but Vans and Palace team riders Danny Brady and Rory Milanes reprised their lead roles in the accompanying film, this time swapping office desks for lab benches. You can catch it here.
The Vans x Palace Shroom collection will be available at the below locations:

Oct 14 21 under Collaborations, Pro, Skate | Comments Off on Vans Skate x Ben Kadow – Skate Sk8-Hi “Spider Webs” (10.21.21)
Ben Kadow’s on-board style is hard to define. It’s classic — rooted in decades of New York skate legends before him — but also contemporary, pushing the boundaries of street skating with a fearless, stick-or-slam mentality. He’s been a Vans Skate team member since 2018, is part of Hockey Skateboardsandhad a star turn in Supreme’sBlessedfilm.Allthis unique style and experience is incorporated on Kadow’s new Vans sneaker: a spiderweb-equipped take on the Sk8-Hi that follows up his Supreme-exclusive Sk8-Hi release from earlier in October.

Its forefoot, toebox, eyestaysand heel are dressed in supple-yet-sturdy black suede, while black and olive meet on the rope laces. Branding is handled by a black Jazz Stripe and an olive-splashed tongue badge. Further special graphics also appear on the insoles, thanks to a shatter print and Kadow’s stylized signature. High-gloss black midsoles and vulcanized gum rubber outsoles round off the look.
From a performance standpoint, the Vans SkateClassicsbyBen Kadow Sk8-Hi features a POPCUSH energy returnsocklinerfor superior cushioning and impact protection. DURACAP underlays and knurled foxing tape promise durability that can tackle even the toughest, Kadow-approved daily skate sessions, and the classic outsole is elevated with a SICKSTICK rubber compound for more grip and board feel.

Vans is proud to present A Look Back: DogTown and Z-Boys, a retrospective of Stacy Peralta’s award-winning documentary that marks the film’s 20-year anniversary. Directed by Glen E. Friedman alongside filmmaker Eric Matthies, A Look Back: DogTown and Z-Boys revisits the documentary’s original cast to explore the film’s impact—not only on their lives, but on the culture of skateboarding.
Many original Z-Boys return to the screen for A Look Back, including Peralta, Peggy Oki, Wentzle Ruml, Skip Engblom, Paul Constantineau, Jim Muir and Tony Alva. A Santa Monica native and one of Vans first skate team riders, Alva’s name is forever linked to skateboarding’s origins. As a teenager in the ‘70s, he collaborated with Vans to create the brand’s first true “Off The Wall” shoe for skateboarding. More than four decades later, Alva’s story is just as powerful, immortalizing him as a revolutionary who turned Dogtown into skateboarding’s intrepid capital.
“The original film not only shed light on the foundation of modern skateboarding, it showed us the stories of those who made it happen,” Friedman said. “Our film goes a bit deeper into what some of the participants thought of the film they stared in, and how it has since affected their and how it has since affected their lives and their brothers who have passed since its release 20 years ago.”
Friedman, who makes his directorial debut with A Look Back, is universally considered as one of the most prominent photographers of his generation, most well-known for his influential images of rebellious artists from skateboarding, punk and hip hop. Ranging from the Beastie Boys, Run-D.M.C. and Ice-T, to Z-Boys Alva and Jay Adams, Friedman’s photographs cemented the importance of these radical subcultures at their beginnings. His work is included in notable international collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Smithsonian Institution. Eric Matthies, who co-produced the film, is known for his broadcast, cinema and multi-media projects, and has produced globally recognized documentaries that have garnered a PGA Award, Grammy nomination, NAACP Image Award nomination, LAFF Audience Choice award, Saturn award, and Social Justice Fund nomination. A Look Back: DogTown and Z-Boys premiered globally on September 23 at the 2021 Paris Surf & Skate Film Festival.
“The Zephyr crew had an enormous impact on my peers and I, not only as skaters, but as artists and filmmakers,” Matthies said. “This project was a great opportunity to give something back to our skate community.”
The original DogTown and Z-Boys documentary rose to critical acclaim after its release in 2001, led by director and original Zephyr skateboard team member Stacy Peralta, and was co-written by Craig R. Stecyk III and co-produced by Friedman. Chronicling the rise of skateboarding in backyard pools in 1970s’ Santa Monica and Venice, the original documentary drew on a compilation of vintage images and video clips combined with present-day interviews, encapsulating how the Z-Boys ultimately created a skateboarding subculture that defined a generation and influenced those to come. The original documentary won two awards at Sundance Film Festival and an Independent Spirit Award in 2001.
