Following 2020’s “King’s Road” pack, Concepts’ latest collaborations with Vans bring light to the intersection of luxury design, skate style, and Two-Tone fashion with the “Question the Answers” collection.

Named for a 1994 album by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, the collection merges the classic Vans checkerboard pattern with a hallmark material from the heyday of the ‘70s and ‘80s punk-driven London fashion mohair. In this, Concepts bridges the gap between generation-defining designer Vivienne Westwood, ‘80s Two-Tone style, and centuries-old design houses.

“Working with Vans has given us space to experiment with the rich history of punk fashion,” says Deon Point, Concepts Creative Director. “This latest collection, which includes our most progressive in-house clothing assortment, allows us to honor local music history and relay our deep knowledge of luxury design details.”

Two OG SK8-Hi’s, an OG Authentic LX, and an OG Old Skool NS LX are dressed in mohair to give Vans’ classic checkerboard a fresh perspective. Each colorway honors Vans’ legacy print in new articulations. Design details from the custom boxes draw from the Sex Pistols, poster boys of the hardcore punk era from which mohair transformed from pedestrian wear to aspirational fashion.

“Given the nod to both Damier prints and Westwood-era mohair, the ‘Question the Answers’ collection was the perfect drop for us to flex our luxury streetwear sensibility,” says Point.

A series of chino pants and a polar checker fleece and shorts pays homage to the early ‘80s Two-Tone scene, which merged Jamaican ska and punk elements. The assortment also includes the Concepts Icon hoodie, sweatpants, and T-Shirts — garments expressing Concepts’ studied approach to fit and fabrication.

The Vault by Vans x Concepts “Question the Answers” collection launches exclusively on October 7 at CNCPTS Boston, CNCPTS NYC, CNCPTS Dubai, and cncpts.com. Shoes range from $90 to $110.
