Words via Vans:

Taking design cues and inspiration from the Vans’ Surf Boot, Vault by Vans introduces the Boot Skoot LX, a fashion-forward footwear model with the sleek look of a performance surf boot.

The Boot Skoot LX features neoprene uppers as a nod to the brands performance-driven surf boot. The hi-top is crafted with premium leather and rubber overlays for added structure, durability and elevated design detail. A unique parametric waffle sole makes it city-ready, while a combination Velcro and zip closure allows for easy wear. Available in two colorways including black with a white leather Sidestripe that draws parallels back to Vans’ owning iconic Sk8-Hi as well as a true white iteration that is finished with perforated details for breathability and a translucent waffle sole.

The new Vault by Vans assortment was visualized and self-captured by self-proclaimed sockfluencer, Gia Seo who is a Brooklyn-based creative director and Yavez Anthonio who is a photographer and director from Amsterdam who currently resides in Brooklyn, NY. Anthonio captures and creates ideas and stories through his interests that span music, fashion, culture and community.

The Vault by Vans Boot Skoot LX will be available at select Vault Dealers on August 28.

My opinion:

“So this one’s a little interesting.  Obviously, Vans has been trying to switch things up for awhile now.  Trying out completely new shapes and styles.  Aiming for a new consumer of sorts.  These are very fashion forward, even though they say they’re inspired by the Surf Boot model.  Very reminiscent of a Yeezy 750, with hints of an Air Mag.  Perhaps this shoe should’ve been given the Taka treatment, utilizing premium suedes and leathers, featuring some embroidery or perforations, while sitting atop some sort of Vibram sole?  Then again, Taka’s design inspiration may be entirely somewhere else at the moment, and we’re just stuck in the past, with old Taka stuff that was way ahead of it’s time.  Maybe all that stuff is NOW ready to be introduced to fashion.  Who knows.  These are interesting.  I like the soles.  I like the back of the shoe, more than the front.  What are your takes on it?”
