Interview: Authentic® Q&A with SoleClassics’ James Drakeford aka @mrkingjd

1

James Drakeford, or as we know him as MrKingJD, is that dude. Always dressed in something fresh, with a unique style as eclectic as his choice in sneakers. Being a part of the Sole Classics team sure gives him a lot of exposure to different styles, and he’s been fortunate enough to help design some of their collaborations (some unreleased as of yet), and he sat down with Authentic® to talk a little bit about himself, and how he approaches his design work. You’ll also get to see a few of his custom designed shoes from various ID programs from different brands.  Get to know our friend a little better by reading his interview over on his site!

This has been quite hilarious over the past few days, as we watch a few of our friends post up their unboxing videos of the recent Taka Hayashi x Pendleton shoes.  Each pair has a unique cut from the Pendleton blanket, and some patterns are more coveted than others or some just prefer one pattern over another.  Some are on a mission to collect every pattern out there, and there’s even a topic on Strictly Vans Facebook group created specifically to work out trades for preferred styles.  Stay tuned for a few more unboxing videos!

Vans x Pendleton – Collection (Holiday 2015)

vans-pendleton-2015-holiday-collection-1

Words via Vans:

“Vans closes out the winter with an extensive collection with Pendleton Woolen Fabrics. Renowned for their authenticity and commitment to quality, Vans and Pendleton come together to create a distinctive line-up of product that embodies the unique design heritage of both iconic entities.  In years past, Vans and Pendleton have teamed up for limited edition executions under the Vault by Vans imprint. The Vans x Pendleton collection for holiday 2015 expands the partnership into a seven-piece range that includes collaborative adult, kid and toddler footwear.  Starting with the adult selection of footwear, Pendleton’s tribal wools are presented on the quarter panels of the Sk8-Hi MTE, across the Classic Slip-On and over the Era lace-up.  The Sk8-Hi MTE offers the added benefits of Vans’ all weather technology that includes Scotchgard®-treated uppers, warm linings and an internal heat retention layer for additional support in cold climates.  Furthermore, the Sk8-Hi MTE features a unique outsole construction that reverses and extends the Vans waffle pattern into a lug sole platform for maximum grip on wet surfaces.  For tiny tykes, the Era is taken down into kid’s sizing while the Sk8-Hi Zip is made exclusively for smaller feet. Modified with a heel zipper and traditional rubber tread sole, the Sk8-Hi Zip is only available in kid and toddler size runs.  There are also a few LXVI, Surf, and Apparel pieces available exclusively online.

Vans x Mooneyes – Custom Hand-Pinstriped Slip-On by Hiro “Wildman” Ishii (Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show 2015) #HCS2015

slipon-1

This weekend will mark the 24th annual Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show in Yokohama, Japan, and Mooneyes’ very own Hiro “Wildman” Ishii will be there, putting on a pin-striping demonstration on some leather Slip-Ons, but this year he is going to be selling them, allowing a select few to get their very own custom shoe done by him.  This is more of an art piece, so each person will only be receiving one shoe.  According to the translated version of the Vans Japan page, Hiro will also be taking orders for these at the event, perhaps so he can produce more after the event is over.  These are absolutely stunning, and a great idea!  Too bad it’s only for the Japan Vans heads!  (They will also be giving out free Vans pinstripe stickers to those who visit the booth)
