Vans x Opening Ceremony – “Plaid Pack” Lampin (Available Now!)

Opening Ceremony teams up with Vans for an exclusive, limited-edition series called the Plaid Pack. Reminiscent of punk and collegiate style, the collection features Vans’ Lampin, a retro ’90s skate style, printed from the canvas uppers to the rubber outsoles in the collaboration’s green and red plaid motif.

UTP Review: Vault by Vans x END Clothing – “Nordic Wool” OG Old Skool LX

IMG_8341

It’s been ages since I’ve been able to sit down and write up a personal review on a sneaker release, but you’ve caught me on a good week and I’m in the mood to do one, so here goes!

Today we are reviewing END Clothing’s first official Vault by Vans collab, as far as I know.  I’ve been sharing Vans collabs for many years and I don’t have anything documented, and THE Google doesn’t find anything either!  With that being said, we are seeing the results of a brand that knows things.  END has been a Vault dealer for a long time, and they have to have a pretty good finger on the pulse of what Vans enthusiasts want, as well as what their clientele want.  They’ve managed to create something that’s unique, timeless, and high fashion without adding any gimmicks or trends.  Unique, because of the material and patterns used.  Timeless, because of the simple black and marshmallow colorways chosen, and high fashion because of the premium soft supple leather that was chosen for each shoe.  Not to mention, the packaging.  Each raffle-drawn winner received their pair in a custom velveteen wrapped box, with the custom knitted V print and END Clothing logo front and center.  Another unique aspect of the release.  One of my favorite subtle features, is the white contrasting foxing stripe, set in between the marshmallow sidewall foxing.  There is also minimal END branding on the footbed, just to let you know whose collab this is.  Each pair comes with a set of wide flat nylon laces, as well as a set of nylon paracord laces.  Either one is fine with me.

I’d like to say that this release kind of just showed up out of nowhere.  No big hype behind it, but END released both pairs through their online raffle system, and they sold out!  Congratulations on that one!  These are one of those pairs that you don’t really give it a thought, until you either see some up close detailed shots of the material and true colors, or you see them on somebody’s feet.  Either way, you’ll have to wait to find your pair through the grubby little hands of a reseller now.  I’d like to thank Simon at END, and Nick at Vans UK for the always appreciated support!

Vault by Vans x Wood Wood – OG Old Skool LX (11.30.17)

vans-wood-wood-001

In the final collaborative project as part of their 15 year celebration, Wood Wood has teamed up with Vans to create a twist on the classic Old Skool silhouette. The result is two pairs juxtaposing each other as whites, greys and black mix with the brown tones of natural gum forming two simple but striking colorways.  “A tribute to adolescent behaviour and attitude” says W.W. designer Brian SS Jensen, referencing the scribbles on the sidewalls of the sole units, which adds a bit of youthful verve to the shoes.

The shoes will be sold in limited quantities exclusively at W.W. stores and at woodwood.com from Thursday November 30.

Vans Japan x Mooneyes – Half Cab & Slip-On (12.3.17 exclusively at The Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show)

vans-mooneyes-2017-01

Vans Japan and Mooneyes team up once again, to release a really cool pack for this year’s 26th annual Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show.

The collaboration offers a vintage motorsports inspired mixture of sneakers, apparel and accessories. The most popular item will most likely be the Half Cab, which you may recall seeing our pic of the huge sz66 version that was sitting in SVD’s office when we took a visit to the new Vans HQ.  The colorway is similar to last year’s Sk8-Hi, with the same all-over graphic print.  There is also a Slip-On that features a large blank area on the toe, for you to customize with stickers that are also included with the shoe.  Pretty dope, right?!  There will also be a few apparel pieces at the show.  The Half Cab is priced at ¥10,000 JPY ($90 USD), while the Slip-Ons will retail for ¥8,000 JPY ($72 USD).

If you plan on making the trip to this year’s show, then stop by the Vans booth where icon Steve Van Doren and skating legend Steve Caballero will be present!

Vault by Vans x END. – “Nordic Wool” OG Old Skool LX (11.24.17) #ENDClothing

VN000VOJRYX_launches_hero_landscape_2

Here’s something entirely fresh and new.  END. Clothing has teamed up with Vault by Vans, to bring this cozy Winter-themed OG Old Skool LX to us.  Available in a Black or Marshmallow knit pattern, sitting on top of a turtledove mid-sole, and featuring premium leather panels throughout the shoe.  To get a better idea of the thought and inspiration behind this release, here’s a little excerpt from END.:

“As winter draws closer and we look to rejuvenate, it’s time to master the art of home hibernation. Now the slate-grey skies and notoriously bleak weather has arrived, overindulge in comfort and hunker down using the art of Hygge; a calm togetherness and celebration of life’s simple pleasures. This END. x Vault by Vans OG Old Skool ‘Nordic Wool’ merges sustainability, fashion and the Danish way of living into a shoe that works well on the sidewalk and skateboard.

Evolving the classic with turtle dove woollen uppers and a natural leather sidestripe, marshmallow hues and a gum rubber outsole round off the hyggelig atmosphere, like mallows roasting over a crackling log fire.

Taking Hygge into the great outdoors, embark on long walks with cosy serenity at your feet.”

END. is holding an online raffle system for a chance to purchase either colorway, that runs until 11.24.17 1:00 BST.  All winners are chosen randomly, and will be notified within 3 hrs. of the draw finishing.

Vans ArcAd x Powell Peralta x Taka Hayashi – Caballero TH Pro, Style 138 TH Pro, & TH Jacket (11.11.17 via @silostore) #silo #silostore

TAKA-OVER

All pics and info via Silo:

“Crafted in collaboration with Japanese artist and Vault by Vans designer Taka Hayashi, the Vans Pro Skate ArcAd Powell Peralta x TH collection commemorates a decades-long legacy of innovation in skateboarding, showcasing unforgettable imagery from Powell Peralta’s signature skate deck graphics archive. The capsule breathes life back into memorable illustrations such as the 1985 Future Primitive logo, Bones fonts, and the principal skull and sword graphics for which Powell Peralta is known.

Featuring elevated renditions of the Caballero Pro ArcAd and the Style 138 Pro ArcAd and limited to only 600 pairs worldwide, the capsule pays apropos tribute to the team that forever changed the face of competitive skateboarding in the 80s, the Bones Brigade, celebrating members such as Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Lance Mountain, Rodney Mullen, Tommy Guerrero and Jesse Martinez.

Known for his sharp attention to detail and premium material executions, Taka Hayashi reimagines his favorite Powell Peralta motifs on the Caballero Pro ArcAd and Style 138 Pro ArcAd. The Style 138 Pro includes a Powell Peralta Experimental tonal screen print on quarter panel, the Future Primitive logo embroidery on heel, and a woven Experimental crest & TH tongue label.

As one his favorite brands since childhood, Hayashi reminisces, “One of the first Powell Peralta boards I purchased was a Skull & Sword Ray “Bones” Rodriguez, created by Vernon Courtlandt Johnson, an artist I looked up to. I must have been ten years old at the time. I went in to Rip City Skate shop and was amazed with all the colors, graphics, and the unique shape of the boards, but that skull & sword really stood out to me.” This collection marks Taka Hayashi’s second Vans Pro Skate project, following the release of his 18th season of Vault by Vans designs this past September.”

Vans Classics – Full Cab (November 2017)

HO17_Full_Cab_collection_4-up

Words via Vans:

“Building off the legacy of the brand’s first ever signature shoe, Vans presents an updated take on the Full Cab. Featuring suede and crocodile embossed leather with an all-new gold dragon lace lock, the high-top is offered in four seasonal colors including blanc de blanc, black, racing red and the Foot Locker-exclusive: scarab green. The Full Cab is arguably the first signature athlete shoe to be released in the skateboarding industry and has continued to define skateboarding footwear for the better part of a decade. Built with function, performance and protection in mind for the quickly evolving vert skateboarding scene of the early ‘90s, the shoe has steadily transitioned into a lifestyle staple. Originally named the Caballero, the shoe was first released in 1989 and today, represents the first wave of signature shoes in skateboarding. Steve Caballero himself played an instrumental role in designing the Full Cab.

“I wanted a shoe that was functional for vert and skating pools but that was also stylish,” Caballero says of his signature high top. He incorporated reinforced toe pieces and extra ankle support for protection while skating steep transition. “Before I was sponsored by Vans, I was wearing a lot of different high tops — mostly old basketball shoes. If you look closely at the Full Cab, you can see some of the inspiration there from the ankle support to the structural top closure.”

While the premium materials and gold lace lock detail are new, the shoe’s silhouette and signature flying dragon logos are a period-perfect callback to ‘90s skate style. The latest Full Cab offering is a testament to Vans’ rich history in both skateboarding and sneaker culture.”

The Full Cab will retail for $95 USD and will be available in an extended size range. The latest Full Cab collection will be available at Footlocker and select Vans wholesale accounts beginning this November. For more information please visit vans.com/fullcab.
