Vans – BMX Checkerboard Pack (June 2018)

image002

Vans, the first action sports apparel and footwear brand to ever support BMX, is introducing retro-inspired colorways across two Classic silhouettes as part of the BMX Checkerboard Pack. The five-piece collection out this fall uses vintage color combinations and Vans iconic checkerboard pattern to update the Era and Sk8-Hi models.

Designers looked to the brand’s nearly 40-year legacy in action sports, drawing inspiration from colorways first worn and sported by its own BMX team riders in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. The BMX Checkerboard pack highlights the Era and Sk8-Hi, which are each outfitted in a two-tone color scheme and checkerboard printed sidewalls. The Era will be available in three colorways including an ode to the original red and navy two-tone model that was first developed by Dogtown legends, Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta in 1976. The star of the collection offering comes from the Sk8-Hi, which was a pivotal shoe for the performance of BMX riders because it provided ankle coverage and protection when racing BMX and attempting freestyle tricks on bikes. The BMX Checkerboard Sk8-Hi honors that progression with two color-ups each featuring Checkerboard along the quarter panels in addition to the checkered sidewall.

The BMX Checkerboard Pack will be available to shop in Vans retail stores and online at Vans.com/classics beginning this June.

Vans Japan x Alexander Lee Chang – BOA Sk8-Hi (Japan exclusive!)

Words via Hypebeast:

“Alexander Lee Chang has linked up with Vans once again to offer a creative spin on yet another classic silhouette. A year ago to the day, we got a look at their collaborative “Boa Skool” creation, in which the Tokyo-based artist applied a Boa lacing system to a two-toned black and blue Old Skool silhouette.

This time around, Chang opts for the cult classic Sk8-Hi model — choosing once more to apply the same distinct lacing mechanism to the Vans hi-top. Seen above rocking a core black base, ample doses of white brighten up the somber palette, as shown in the exposed stitching, signature side stripe and midsole. Priced at ¥22,680 JPY (approximately $208 USD), the Alexander Lee Chang x Vans “Boa Top” is expected to arrive sometime in November, but is now available for pre-order at Shelter.”

Vans x C2H4 – “Ozone” Old Skool & Era (5.10.18)

c2h4-vans-old-skool-era-ozone-4

Words via Hypebeast:

“Supplementing its Spring/Summer 2018 “Zero Gravity” release, C2H4 has put its own unique spin on a couple of Vans silhouettes. Featuring both the Old Skool and Era, the drop takes cues from ozone generator machines and even sees each pair packed in a box that resembles the aforementioned generator’s housing. While the Old Skool comes in tonal blue, the Era dons a white upper and transparent sole unit; both sport red and blue holes as a nod to the input-output principle of the machines.”

Limited to just 150 pairs each and complete with remote control-inspired hang tags, C2H4’s “Ozone” Vans drop online on May 10.
