Vault by Vans – Cut And Paste Pack (Fall/Winter 2018)

https _hypebeast.com_image_2018_06_vans-vault-cap-lx-pack-sk8-hi-slip-on-authentic-checkerboard-shoes-7

First off, please do not call these “The Virgils”.  Despite what you may have heard, our resources, from inside Vans might I remind you, deny that these were designed by Virgil Abloh back in 2013.  Sure, the inside-out overly deconstructed aesthetic has you instantly associating these with Louis Vuitton’s current artistic director’s designs, but this isn’t the first time we’ve seen this done to Vans.  Granted, most of the designs hail from Japan-exclusive collabs, that sometimes release a few pairs in their U.S. flagships.  If you don’t know which collabs or brands we’re talking about, then it’s probably best to leave it that way…you know…for the culture vultures out there who say they’ve been down.  Styles and trends come and go, so perhaps the designers at Vans who worked on this set, were just inspired by what’s current and cool.  I’d hate to assume that they were just going for the money grab, which I could definitely understand, being that streetwear has a heavy influence on fashion these days and ultimately, sales, but in the end haters will say it’s biting Off-White anyways, so you can’t win either way.  I’m just glad that there’s something hyped to report on, as it’s been a little bland lately.  Sorry for all of the copy and paste content that I do, as a result of not being inspired to write about it.

Anyways, the pack consists of three designs, a Sk8-Hi, Slip-On, and an Authentic, each given unique new SKU names, like Slip-On Cap LX, and Sk8-Hi Cap LX.  Colorways were kept classic for the most part.  Black, Natural White, Navy, and a cool Pink pair.  Vans chopped up the foxing, and reglued it, similar to an unauthorized shoe that is very similar to Vans, exclusive to China!  The shoes also feature a reflective, inside vs. outside look, similar to another Japanese brand Vans collab we see every once in awhile.  All in all, the shoes will get you some looks.  Good or bad, does it really matter?  You wanted them to look, right?  My personal opinion, is that the Slip-On will have more lasting power in terms of wearability.  It’s funky, but not too funky.  Look for these to drop at your local Vault dealer soon!

Vans – Vintage Military Sk8-Hi Reissue 138 & Authentic 138 (July 2018)

FA18_Classics_SK8-HiReissue138_VintageMilitary_Elevated[1]

Vans continues to update its Classics silhouettes with the release of the Vintage Military pack for fall. The pack showcases premium design elements including a rich, textured suede and a vintage-inspired foxing first seen on Vans styles from the late ‘70s.

First introduced in 1978 during the height of vert skating and freestyle BMX, the Sk8-Hi was a pivotal footwear style that delivered protection from the rising demands of both sports without sacrificing style. In 1979, Vans updated its original Sk8-Hi model to include a rubber toe bumper for increased durability. Today, Vans reintroduces the toe bumper on the Sk8-Hi Reissue 138 as part of the Vintage Military assortment. Available in two colorways that draw influence from traditional workwear suiting, a premium suede in dress blues and dusty olive dresses the hi-top’s uppers, while a tonal leather Sidestripe can be found on the quarter panels. Each Sk8-Hi 138 model is finished with a marshmallow outsole and a ridged toe bumper detailing. Vans’ original deck shoe rounds out the four pack in two additional colorways including corsair and desert sage that draws influence from customary military regalia. The Authentic 138 showcases vintage-inspired suede uppers, brass eyelets and marshmallows cotton laces, sole and textured toe cap.

The Vintage Military collection will be available to shop in Vans retail stores and online at Vans.com/Classics this July.

Vans x Marvel – “Off The Wall” Super Heroes Pack (6.8.18) #VansxMarvel

AvengersSmall3

Now for some official info on this release from Vans!

“Sharing a rich heritage rooted in creative expression and empowerment, Vans and Marvel join forces once again to launch their largest collaboration to date. Celebrating the “Off The Wall” Super Heroes of the Marvel Universe, Vans introduces an extensive range of co-branded footwear, apparel and accessories featuring an all-star roster of iconic personas including The Avengers, Black Panther, Deadpool, Iron Man, Hulk and more! The Vans x Marvel collection is an epic collaboration for the ages, assembling a massive line-up of 70-plus styles for fans of all ages.

The Vans x Marvel collection kicks off with a selection of footwear inspired by The Avengers. Representing the Super Hero squad, a custom Old Skool has been outfitted with a unique color story to symbolize key members; a vivid blue toe-box and shield graphic heel counter are a nod to Captain America while the shoe tongue has been reimagined to mimic a piece of Iron Man’s high-tech suit of armor. Finishing details include a silver leather wing Sidestripe that takes styling cues from the all-mighty Thor and a brightly colored outsole that don Hulk’s signature green and purple tones. The Authentic presents a subtler aesthetic, showcasing additional Marvel Super Heroes such as Black Panther, Black Widow and Spider-Man in an allover print that also matches back to a selection of men’s t-shirts, hat, sandal and sock options as well as a special checkered apparel pack just for women.

Black Panther, Hulk and Spider-Man are seen once again in the collection with their own dedicated capsules. Stylized with heavy-duty ripstop, claw-like hardware and embossed embellishments, the Black Panther Sk8-Hi references King T’Challa’s vibranium suit. Black Panther makes another appearance on the Vans x Marvel short sleeve tee and Torrey jacket, combining classic comic book artwork with vintage Vans graphics. The Classic Slip-On showcases Hulk’s amazing strength as his feet burst through the checkerboard pattern of Vans’ cherished lace-free sneaker. Hulk fans can rejoice in building an incredible head-to-toe look, as he has his own hat, t-shirt and sock styles while She Hulk makes her debut on the Vans x Marvel Pull Over Hoodie and short sleeve tee. Spider-Man’s superhuman abilities are on full display across the Classic Slip-On sneaker and Slide-On sandal while his spider web motifs and core colors influence the design of additional men’s, women’s and kid’s apparel and accessory pieces. Like a true arch nemesis, Venom counters Spider-Man’s vivid colors with a small-yet-sinister apparel offering that features the symbiotic Super Villain’s menacing grin. Deadpool makes a surprise cameo in the Vans x Marvel collection with a special colorway of the Sk8-Hi. Detailed in durable red and black leather, Vans’ coveted high-top is inspired by Deadpool’s suit, with weapons such as the katana and ninja stars embedded in its build for added protection against foes.

The women of Marvel present their own ensembles within the Vans x Marvel collection, showcasing upgraded materials, rare patterns and signature colors across the assortment of women’s apparel, accessories and footwear. The Classic Slip-On pays homage to Black Widow with sleek nylon uppers and a beveled outsole in an all-black colorway like her bodysuit. A rubberized Black Widow logo is outlined in red for a subtle contrast and ballistic canvas quarter panels put the finishing touches on this stealthy style. Captain Marvel’s heroic hues empower the Sk8-Hi with red suede and blue canvas uppers while gold covers the Sidestripe and accents the back-heel counter with a cut-out eight-point star, Captain Marvel’s cherished emblem. Captain Marvel makes her apparel debut on a pullover, ringer tee and crew tee in her own “Off The Wall” logo pose; her suit’s colors and iconography inspire brand new backpack and crew sock accessories. The women of Marvel team up for a special, graphic-focused capsule that includes the Authentic, Slide-On sandal and an assortment of women’s apparel and accessories. The action-packed allover print features memorable heroines such as Medusa, Scarlet Witch, Storm and more!”

Kids and toddlers can get in on the action with their own apparel and footwear styles from the Vans x Marvel collection. Highlights from the assortment includes kids-only footwear styles including the Sk8-Hi Zip featuring Spider-Man, Authentic featuring the women of Marvel pattern in full color and the Classic Slip-On showcasing Baby Groot across Vans’ iconic checkerboard motif.

For a limited time, Vans Customs will offer three exclusive Vans x Marvel prints that will allow you to create your very own Vans x Marvel designs. To create your very own pair of Vans x Marvel Customs please visit vans.com/customs beginning June 8.

Vans x Marvel – Avengers Infinity War Collection (June 2018)

https _hypebeast.com_image_2018_05_vans-marvel-avengers-old-skool-sk8-hi-slip-on-4

Words via Hypebeast:

“To celebrate the success of the record-breaking new blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War, Vans and Marvel have come together for a collaborative sneaker collection inspired by the film.

Specifically, Vans and Marvel’s joint drop delivers vibrant new takes on the Sk8-Hi, Old Skool and Slip-On silhouettes. The Old Skool pays tribute to the original four Avengers — Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk and Thor — and the Slip-On and Sk8-Hi styles take their inspirational cues from Black Panther and Spiderman. Notably, the Avengers Old Skool is rendered in a “What The”-influenced design that blends together themes from each of the four original Avengers. Captain America’s shield, Iron Man’s chest plate, the Hulk’s bold coloring and the wings of Thor’s helmet come together for a sort of “Frankenstein” approach to the Old Skool’s look.”

You can check out Vans and Marvel’s Avengers-themed collaborative collection above. The shoes will hit select Vans retailers starting Friday, June 1.

Vault by Vans x WOOYOUNGMI – OG Classic Slip-On LX (6.2.18)

vans-vault-slip-on-wooyoungmi-release-details-1

Words via Hypebeast:

“Korean label WOOYOUNGMI is the latest to take on the Slip-On silhouette. The collaboration — the first Korean project from Vault by Vans — features two different colorways of the shoe, with “Royal Blue” or “Deep Red” used across the full-grain leather uppers.

The stand-out details of the shoe are the use of two-tone WOOYOUNGMI branding which runs around the midsole, as well as the hand drawn paisley print — a frequent WOOYOUNGMI motif — that appears on each footbed. The collaboration builds on influences from the label’s spring/summer 2018 collection including youth culture and the classic Lords of Dogtown movie. The capsule is set to drop at Vans stores in Seoul and the WOOYOUNGMI flagship from June 2.”
