Vans became the original action sports brand in 1976 when the Van Doren family released the first skate shoe, style #95. The sturdy construction, material upgrades and padded collar withstood the demands of skaters carving the concrete and became the foundation of not only skate performance footwear but design expression with its multi-panel construction.

Today, style #95 is known as the Era and continues to live on through varying style executions, colorways and forms. With a long-standing history that is rooted in D.I.Y culture, the Era aspires to be outside the confinements of traditional footwear executions with the introduction of the Era 3RA Vision Voyage pack.

The design process begins with Vans original construction of the navy Era which are marked by stitching at each intersecting panel. Every original stitching placement extends and transforms the canvas of the Era with multiplied deco stitching. The tongue is layered with three executions – one atop another. The Era 3RA continues with three layered foxing stipes, toe bumpers and three heel scabs. The Era 3RA will be available in three colorways including navy, black and true white.

The General by Vans – I (Still) Love NY Pack (Available Now!)

IMG_6630

Words via The General by Vans and in-store pics via the homie Jesus Ayala:

“This summer, The General by Vans is proud to present an update to our original 2013 collaboration with Milton Glaser and the City of New York; because we still love NY.
Made exclusively for The General by Vans stores, the collection featuring a Vans Slip-On and a Sk8-Hi, use the iconic “I Love New York” graphic, the symbol of our city.

Designed by Milton Glaser in 1977, the famous pop-style graphic stands as a postmodern signature of New York; ubiquitous on plastic shopping bags and t-shirts in delis and souvenir stores throughout the city, with the trademarked logo used officially to promote tourism in the state. The graphic is printed all over on classic black canvas on the Slip-On, and all over the quarter of the Sk8-Hi, which is finished with a white leather side stripe.

The footwear and photography are inspired by the idea of the repeat pattern, the repeat of a motif in textiles and the repeat of visual patterns in daily life in New York. We experience the city of New York in moments; a collage of smells, textures, materials, sounds, landscapes and characters. The layers of old and new, familiar and strange, day and night, are woven in time, becoming the fabric and graphic make-up of New York, the background of our own experience and what connects us both to the city itself and to everybody else in it.

The ‘I (Still) Love NY’ footwear collection is available in men’s and women’s sizes and releases on Wednesday, July 17th exclusively at The General stores in New York.

Vans x Offspring – Herringbone Pack (Released on 7.13.19)

https-_hypebeast.com_image_2019_07_offspring-vans-herring-bone-pack-era-95-dx-slip-on-dx-98-release-information-1

Offspring takes inspiration from the classic Van Doren prints of the past, the Herring-BONE pack is alive with influences from both the Vans archive and vintage Vans prints found in Japanese thrift stores. Throughout the years the iconic Pirate print has been adapted, twisted and changed from its original inception all the way to the Star Wars Pack where it featured the Darth Vader mask. The upper ‘Herring-BONE’ print evokes memories of some of Van’s earlier prints as well as from the early 90s, but now adapted and enlarged to give a more exaggerated aesthetic. The Herring-BONE pack sees the OFFSPRING logo merge with a skull and crossbones and can be found de-bossed into the side walls of the ERA 95 DX & the Classic slip on DX 98.

Sorry for the late drop info, but these released on July 13th, and as far as online goes, only the Slip-On is still available

Vans Presents: Black Rainbows – A Celebration Of The Era, The World’s First Skateboarding Shoe (Aug. 9-18) #VansBlackRainbows

Vans, the original action sports footwear and apparel brand, presents BLACK RAINBOWS, a 10-day immersive experience in Venice Beach, California that transports fans back to 1976 to celebrate the energetic time period and place that Vans’ first skateboarding shoe was born. “BLACK RAINBOWS” aren’t just marks left by wallrides from skateboards, they are symbols of the creative reinterpretation of the world around you. Beginning August 9th– 18th, Vans will continue to elevate the Classic Era and honor the ubiquitous silhouette as an icon of creative expression past and present.

In 1976, Tony Alva worked with the Vans family and created a shoe specifically designed for skateboarding. What they did next with that shoe set off a cultural explosion that sent shockwaves around the globe. Vans will commemorate the history and origins of the Era in the neighborhood between Santa Monica and Venice Beach known by Tony Alva, Stacy Peralta and the original Z-Boys simply as Dogtown. BLACK RAINBOWS is aimed at reinforcing our brand promise of enabling creative expression through action sports, art, music and street culture. Vans has partnered with Dogtown legend Jeff Ho, famed owner of the Zephyr Surf Shop and Jim Muir, original Z-Boy and skate Hall of Fame inductee, to bring forward an authentic depiction of the birth of a cultural icon; the Era. BLACK RAINBOWS’ interactive programming and highlights will include Vans skate demos, panel discussions with Vans Designers and skate legends, art and music workshops, film screenings and will culminate with live musical performances.

Mark your calendars – RSVP opens July 31! The Vans BLACK RAINBOWS experience at 6 Rose Avenue will be free and open to the public beginning August 9th– 18th. For more information visit www.vans.com/blackrainbows . It’s not seeing what exists, it’s seeing what can be created.

Vault By Vans x Goodhood – “Love In The Time Of Chaos” Pack (7.25.19)

GoodhoodxVans6

The world is in disarray… in an effort to spread love and positive vibes, Goodhood teams up with iconic brand Vans for their third collaborative outing. The award-winning London retailer has tapped into three classic Vans styles: the OG Era LX, OG Slip-On LX and OG Sk-8 Mid LX, in signature Goodhood colorways of black and white.

Constructed with premium canvas and suede, each shoe is adorned with a printed upper, lace and sole; featuring vintage Vans prints with punk nods, such as spider-webs and lightning, alongside the Goodhood logo and ‘love in the time of chaos’ text. A double entendre of inspiration, as the punk-infused imagery was also used as in-store decoration at Goodhood – a knowing nod to the store’s heritage.

A totally ‘color-blind’ shoe, a conscious decision was made to forego color, opting instead for a cool mono aesthetic. Each shoe is a statement within itself, juxtaposing anarchic imagery with positive energy, created with a full heart and an open mind…

Available in sizes UK3 to UK12

Vans-x-TC-Surf-Designs-Style-36-Black-Yellow-White-Skate-Shoes-_316703-front-US

Vans Surf has teamed up with T&C Surf Designs again, to create a limited run of shoes and apparel.  This time around, we see the return of the Sk8-HI 138 Decon SF in a Cream & Pink colorway, featuring checkerboard printed foxing with a woven T&C label on the side panel of the upper.  There are two newcomers to the lineup, the first being a Style 36 SF in a Black, Yellow, and White colorway, featuring iconic T&C Yin Yang logos printed on the foxing.  The Slip-On SF comes to us in a Black suede upper, with debossed T&C logos at the top, and feature a Pink & Blue Checekrboard pattern on the mid panel.  Each pair shares custom printed footbeds, woven T&C labels, and black foxing stripes.  To round out the pack, there is a long-sleeve tee, and a hoodie to go along with the shoes.  We have no idea about the distribution of these, but we do know that Zumiez currently has them available for pre-order on their site.

31 Days Of Vans 2019 Is Officially Here! #31daysofvans

It’s July, and what does that mean?  It’s time for everyone’s favorite unofficial Vans month, where we annoy the shit out of everybody, by posting (at least) 1 pair of Vans pics on your favorite social media platform of choice, and hashtagging #31daysofvans.  Why?  Because you’re down with us!  Our community grows every year, and this is a great way to take pride in that.  It’s all about the people, and not about us.  We just foster it and help it grow.  Just for the record, this is something the Vans community started back in 2015.  Any similar campaigns just have no style or creativity, so step off!  It was created by @hansoloman, one of our guys, and we’ll always try to make sure he gets that credit, no matter how large and world-wide it becomes.  We also have to give credit to the homie Kyle (@iamrocketkyle / @poprocketcreations), for creating the dope graphic we see here before us.  Looking forward to next year’s already!  This is something he started last year, but I see it continuing FOR-EV-ERRR.  Thanks!

…also, we’ll be linking up with @hr_la on another #v31 contest this year, so be sure to tag #v31 and #getyourvansathotrod if you want to participate in it.  There’s giftcards to be won from Hot Rod, for a few lucky winners!

Vault By Vans x Sole Classics – “One Night (Panties)” by The Sole Classics (Collection Releases Tonight and Tomorrow!)

Here’s a dope music video by The Sole Classics, the funk band formed by Ohio’s very own Sole Classics, who put together an awesome LP for the Vault By Vans collab that is dropping tonight in NYC, and tomorrow online and at the Sole Classics Dublin location.  Don’t sleep, and give this a view or two!  It’s so sick.
