This past Friday, I had the pleasure of being invited to the opening of BLACK RAINBOWS, a 10-day immersive experience in Venice Beach, put on by Vans, that transports visitors back to 1976 to celebrate the energetic time period and place that Vans’ first skateboarding shoe, the Era, was born.

Saint Alfred and Vans Vault partner for a unique take on the seasonal appropriate Vault OG Authentic LX.
Saint Alfred dug through the Vans catalogue and highlighted an archival Vans “Acid” pattern print and applied it to the shoe’s canvas upper. The acid wash print pays homage to Vans’s home and Southern California’s surf and skate culture which birthed the acid wash process. The Vans iconic Checkerboard pattern is wrapped around the midsole. The shoes come with co-branded special packaging.
Chicago artist Ben Marcus lends his vision to help tell the story of the two colors, Acid/Black and Acid/Pesto. As a bonus and thank you to our guests, each shoe will include a limited Ben Marcus riso graph print produced by Perfectly Acceptable Press, Chicago, IL.
The limited Acid/Black will be available at KICKS/HI and in-store at Saint Alfred Friday, August 9th 11am CT. If any pairs remain after assisting local Chicago guests, those shoes will release on saintalfred.com 2pm CT.
Even more limited, Acid/Pesto, will be available to friends and family and select pairs in-store only at Saint Alfred Friday, August 9th 11am CT.

Highlights include a unique hairy suede fabric in a marshmallow/cendra blue colorway, punched eyelets, and a perforated “V” detail at the side panel. In addition, they feature alternating sole colors (right sole white, left sole cendra blue), a classic “Vans Off The Wall” branded tab on the tongue, and a custom Vans Vault + Pilgrim footbed.

“VAINL ARCHIVE has teamed up with Vans for the release of a Japan-exclusive Authentic. The Japanese imprint has captured its collaborative pair in an action-packed lookbook, which sees the shoes worn to skate around town.
VAINL ARCHIVE is helmed by industry stalwart Kouhei Ohkita and has previously collaborated with the likes of Reebok and KEEN. For this collaboration, the Japanese label has given the Vans Authentic a washed black denim upper with black leather trim around the tongue and collar.
On the rear, we find a checkerboard print wrapped around the heel cup that is continued inside the shoe to contrast against its blue lining. Black laces and a black Vans tab round off the limited-edition pair. The first drop of VAINL ARCHIVE x Vans Authentic is on August 3 at BILLY’S TOKYO, BEAUTY & YOUTH Shibuya Koen-dori and H BEAUTY & YOUTH for ¥14,000 JPY (approx. $128 USD). Vans, the original action sports brand began supporting BMX in 1979 becoming the first brand to support the sport. To celebrate this milestone and the unsung impact BMX has had on youth culture ever since, Vans presents an Anniversary Collection for men and women. Featuring a unique assortment of footwear and apparel inspired by the heyday of parking lot ramp demonstrations, neon clad kids and a longstanding form of creative expression.
Vans sticky waffle soles proved to give great pedal grip and became the choice for BMX riders of the late ‘70s. For this honorary collection, a unisex offering of the Sk8-Hi Reissue and Era serve as the foundation for a full head to toe assortment of footwear and apparel. Footwear is constructed with Vans’ classic canvas and suede combination, and each style showcases a graphic Checkerboard printed quarter-panel that is available in three colorways including a share green, white and true navy. Each footwear silhouette is finished with a reissued thumbs up heritage print on the sidewall.
Inspired by classic BMX lifestyle silhouettes and Vans heritage graphics the assortment includes eight new apparel and accessory styles for men and women. The women’s key styles include a BMX Jacket that uses a poly flight satin shell and includes a range of Vans logo executions to give the jacket a period correct look. The relaxed fit BMX Muscle Tank is made with a heavy cotton jersey and is adorned with front and back logo treatment. The BMX Pant offers a tapered leg with side paneling, screen-printed leg graphics and interior Checkerboard elastic at the waist. A BMX backpack rounds out the women’s offering with a durable poly fabric with multiple screen-printed graphics and a large Vans branded patch. For men, Vans releases a BMX Off The Wall Track Pant that features Checkerboard printed detailing down the leg and a coordinating BMX Off The Wall Anorak that has contrasting sleeves and front pocket detailing. The BMX Off The Wall long sleeve and the iconic BMX Painters Cap complete the offering.

Constructed using high-tenacity fiber technologies, the CORDURA® Old Skool features weight for weight CORDURA® fabrics that are exceptionally durable, enabling strong, long-lasting products to be even tougher. It also includes suede and textile uppers, re-enforced toecaps to withstand repeated wear, padded collars for support and flexibility, and signature rubber waffle outsoles.
