Vault by Vans x Ray Barbee x Leica Camera – Collection (11.19.21)

https-_hypebeast.com_image_2021_11_vaultbyvans-raybarbee-teaser-1

Info via Hypebeast:

“Three iconic partners– Vans, photographer Ray Barbee and Leica– are teaming up to introduce a collaborative capsule and a limited-edition camera. Inspired by Barbee’s path as a skateboarder-turned-artist, Vault by Vans is applying the Vans pro athlete’s lens to its footwear and apparel. Titled the “Capturing the Journey” collection, the pieces communicate the core messages that drive Barbee’s creative practice and passion for his craft. To help cultivate this sense of creativity in others, the three partners are also created a limited-edition Leica D-Lux 7 Vans x Ray Barbee. The camera is covered in Vans’ iconic checkerboard pattern and plate of the camera includes Barbee’s signature.

Similar to Ernst Leitz, the influential photographer who founded Leica in 1869, Barbee is also an artist who approaches high-quality photography with an extremely personal touch. Barbee’s influence on the worlds of skateboarding and photography in the ’90s and 00’s is used as a reference for the collection’s color palette, which includes grungey, ’90s colors like brown, dark red and teal. The iconic minimalist Leica logo is captured on the Vans footwear as printed, raised red dots on the sole and as red top eyelets and lace aglets.

Sitting at the intersection of Vans’ signature skate style and Leica’s sophisticated photography aesthetic, keep an eye out for more creative releases from this collaboration that explore the perspective of Ray Barbee. The “Capturing the Journey” collection will be available online and at select Vault by Vans retailers starting on November 19.

Vans x MoCA – 2nd Release (11.12.21)

DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission.

Info via Hypebeast:

“Vans has continued its collaboration with Los Angeles’ MOCA, following last month’s celebration of Californian culture with a new art-themed release. The new capsule covers both footwear and apparel, and features designs from a trio of Californian artists.

Artist Judy Baca has taken inspiration from her 1984 work Hitting the Wall, Women in the Marathon, that was commissioned for the 1984 Summer Olympic Games. This artwork is recreated across the Vans Old Skool silhouette and a matching jacket, while Baca’s 1990 work The World Wall: Triumph of the Hearts adorns a fleece pullover.

The second artist participating in the capsule is Brenna Youngblood, who transforms the Authentic and Classic Slip-On silhouettes through colorful and 3D prints that references the assemblage often used in her work. Rounding out the capsule, Frances Stark has celebrated the city of Los Angeles through a hand-drawn map across the Old Skool, showing the streets that have inspired her throughout her life. Stark’s celebration of L.A. also covers a new Sk8-Hi design.

The second MOCA x Vans collection is due to release on November 12, and will be available via the Vans web store, select retailers and the MOCA store.”

Vans x Tierra Whack – Collection (12.3.21)

HO21_TierraWhack_0566

DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission.

This December, Vans taps trailblazing rapper Tierra Whack for a uniquely creative collection of footwear and apparel designed by Tierra Whack in collaboration with her longtime stylist Shirley Kurata. The creative vision of Tierra Whack brought to life in Vans footwear and apparel, Vans x Tierra Whack collection blends a radical take on 1980s style with key elements of Vans brand heritage for a truly unique expression of design outside the lines.

Adapting the rapper’s irreverent approach to music and fashion, Vans x Tierra Whack is a mélange of colors, shapes, patterns, and phrases that explores limitless creativity. That freedom sees Whack and her longtime collaborator, Shirley Kurata, inject the collection with an inspiring sense of play, rendering each style singularly ‘Whack’. Over shared histories and a wealth of clashing and coinciding references, Whack and Kurata infuse the collection with the positive energy of self-expression.

“It was an amazing experience to be able to take what I do with music and apply it to fashion,” said Whack. “Making music is all about collaboration and it was great to work with Shirley and with Vans to give people a collection they can feel free in.”

The Vans x Tierra Whack Old Skool and Style 36, lead the footwear collection. The Old Skool features oversized and multicolored “WHACK” stamped on the quarter, echoed on the sidewall which reads “Weird Hype And Creative Kids”. This Old Skool was first released as part of a promotional run of shoes that Tierra created for her fans during a 2019 House of Vans Philadelphia performance and will be re-released as part of this collection. Meanwhile, the Style 36 plays with graphic contrasts, pairing a soft eco-suede classic white upper with pops of blue on the sidewall and oversized puffy laces looping through the collection’s signature “Weird Hype And Creative Kids” eyelets.

The Vans x Tierra Whack Half Cab provides Whack’s own spin on the Vans Classic, blending unexpected colorways and clashing Vans checkerboards in shades of yellow, green, red, black and white. Featuring a soft eco-suede upper and a rubberized checkerboard toe cap, the collection’s Half Cab comes complete with a secondary oversized green fuzzy lace and eyelets that read “Weird Hype And Creative Kids,” celebrating fans and followers of Tierra and her irreverent personal style. Contrasting left and right sockliners in blue and green decorate the insoles, while the tongue lining label features Whack’s signature in script, and a unique crystal bottom grass completes the style.

A truly ‘Whack’ standout from the collection is the Vans x Tierra Whack Standard Snow MTE, vibrant all-over in head-turning Cyber Yellow. Adapted from Vans’ ‘Made for the Elements’ line, the weather-ready style features a full patent leather upper, mid-calf silhouette, and black lug outsole to take to the streets come rain or shine, making it the sure rulebreaker of the pack.

A selection of apparel curated by Whack and Kurata complements the collection featuring styles including the Vans x Tierra Whack Twofer, a heavy cotton ringer tee with contrasting printed long-sleeves and a message from Tierra that reads “It’s Okay to Cry”. A Vans Authentic Chino with wide cuffed hems and packable puffer vest round out the apparel, while a reversible cotton ripstop bucket hat tops it all off, making a fully head-to-toe look.

Vans x Tierra Whack is available on Vans.com and at select Vans retailers beginning December 3, 2021.

Vans Skate x Palace – Skate Sk8-Hi (11.5.21)

Cultivated in the deepest, darkest depths of a Soho basement, Vans and Palace’s second collaboration of 2021 features three fungi-inspired Sk8-Hi’s, dropping on November 5th.

Back in June, Vans and London based skate brand Palace teamed up for their first, long-awaited collaboration, featuring the Skate Authentic and Palace’s employee-of-the-month, Jeremy the Duck. The collection includes three colorways – Black / Blue, Marshmallow and Yellow – covered in some friendly Palace shrooms.

Jeremy steered clear of the dark and damp for this one, but Vans and Palace team riders Danny Brady and Rory Milanes reprised their lead roles in the accompanying film, this time swapping office desks for lab benches. You can catch it here.
