Vans x DQM – “Square Ones” (Summer 2014)

SQ1_02

Words via DQM:

“DQM will be releasing its Summer 14 footwear collection in collaboration with Vans next Thursday, August 7th. Made exclusively for DQM, the shoes are inspired by the utility and economy of a basic, what it means for a product to be useful, to be essential or classic. The concept is inspired by the Japanese ‘Muji’ brand of utility items, as well as fashion classics: blue jeans, white t-shirt, M-65, black leather motorcycle jacket.

A true ‘basic’ is designed with simplicity, utility and economy in mind; a basic is something that works. Considering what the aesthetic and functional qualities of a manufactured product would be if you only had one of it, DQM has pared back Vans’ Sk8-Hi, Old Skool and Authentic styles to the very essentials. Built to be worn daily, the shoes are constructed in a light-weight cotton ripstop fabric that won’t tear, in a wear with anything white. They feature tracer cord laces that won’t break, a flexible and washable light-weight Ortholite insole, and deconstructed styling including stitched side stripes.

Produced in a limited edition, the Square One collection will be available in men’s and women’s sizes at The Vans DQM General in SoHo, New York and The Vans DQM General on Newbury St. in Boston, MA, as well as online at dqmnewyork.com, on August 7th.”

Photographed by Dominic Neitz in Brooklyn, New York. Worn by Richard Quintero.

Vans x Fiat – 500L Concept

image1

Words and pics via Top Gear:

“This car started life as a Fiat 500L. After it was driven off the Fiat production line, it was then driven through a Vans store, in preparation for a debut at the Vans US Open of Surfing last weekend. This event took place at Huntington Beach, which is in California.

If you are a consumer of Vans footwear, you will notice many Vans footwear-inspired details around this 500L. Many logos. A ‘waffle sole’ pattern on the pedals. Some ‘checkerboard’ patterning on the roof.

There is also a two-tone paint scheme, 18in matt black wheels and a roof rack with a double decker surfboard carrier. Because surfing.

We have literally no words left to describe this Fiat 500L, so will simply pose this question: is this the weirdest car company tie in?”

I don’t know if this was the best automobile brand to collaborate with.  I do like the nice Vans customizations, like the gum waffle sole reverse treads on the utility tray, and pedals.  The signature palm leaf pattern on the seat covers is dope, and I think the “sticker bomb” dash accent is a little over the top, but it is a concept after all.  It has to be attention grabbing.  I could see Vans teaming up with Scion, or Toyota’s TRD division.  Maybe get in on the import drifting scene, which is somewhat an action sport, and maybe even a dirtbike brand collaboration.  Same waffle accents, and familiar patterns please!

Vans OTW x Stampd – Tesella (Fall 2014)

vans-otw-stampd-1-960x640

Words via Highsnobiety:

“In an interesting new team-up, Vans OTW has gotten together with Los Angeles brand Stampd. The collaboration for Fall 2014 is a new luxury take on the Vans OTW Tesella silhouette. Stampd is known for their clean and minimal aesthetic, and has applied exactly that to the low top sneaker. The sneaker comes with a butter soft calf leather upper in black and an UltraCush™ Lite outer sole, outfitted in a speckled finish. The added hand-woven leather upper is yet another nice touch, underlining the understated fashion that Stampd has become known for in the high-end streetwear market over the last few years. Having started with footwear in its early days, Stampd afterwards ventured in clothing, which is now its primary focus. It is nice to see them return to their roots with this footwear collaboration. The Vans OTW x Stampd Tesella will retail for $160 and launches at the Stampd pop-up shop (located at 8860 Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood, CA) at 11 a.m. PST on August 2 and online at 12 a.m. PST on August 4 in the official Stampd online store.”

Vans x Thierry Boutemy x Opening Ceremony – Capsule Collection (Summer 2014)

thierry-boutemy-x-opening-ceremony-vans-collection-01-960x640

Words via Opening Ceremony:

“Celebrated for his dramatic and daring floral arrangements, Thierry Boutemy has left his print on everything from film to fashion, creating works for OC favorites like Sofia Coppola and Dries Van Noten. Now, the legendary artist’s green thumb has taken a transformative step by partnering with Opening Ceremony. Using broken foliage, Thierry produced exquisite collages and designs, which we then printed on everything, including our favorite Vans styles.

Vans’ Chukka sneakers get a floral twist, printed with an allover pattern of densely-layered, richly-hued florals. These lace-up shoes hit right at the ankle with padding around the opening, and the signature honeycomb sole.”

Vans Syndicate 026.160 – RapidWeld Pack (August 2014) #NOYFB

Rapidweld_Hero_1

Right off the heels of the Golf Wang Old Skool Pro “S”, Vans Syndicate is hitting us up with another release for the same month.  They’re presenting to us, the Seylynn Rapidweld “S” and Mt. Edition Mid Rapidweld “S”.  The Rapidweld technology used in producing the two shoes featured, shows off a seamless construction throughout most of the shoe, with a few hits of premium full-grain black leather, and premium temperature management linings.  The Rapidweld Pack explores the unknown, paying homage to a culture of classified missions led by the military, the Air Force and beyond, and includes a special pack of unique patches symbolizing these clandestine operations.  #NOYFB

This pack has been delayed to most of the shops, which wouldn’t be such an issue if Vans would just stop trying to create release dates for their shoes.  Most of us Vans collectors and enthusiasts spend a good amount of our money on Vans because they don’t follow in the footsteps of other shoe brands that NEED to do these sort of tactics to sell their product.  The authenticity is already there, and I feel by doing this, it diminishes the coolness of the product.  Stop producing action sports spectator footwear, and you won’t need to look to your gems to produce more profit (or less loss as some releases go).  That’s just my opinion, #butthatsnoneofmybusinessthough

Vans x Supreme – Seylynn “S” (Spring/Summer 2014 Official Review!)

IMG_2545

I really need to hand it to our UTP fam for knowledge of this release.  Our member Wolfstrice09 stumbled across a Supreme LA employee’s IG account that had a picture of these Seylynn’s on it, stating that they were in at the shop.  Wolfs’ tagged me in the photo, and asked if I knew anything about them, and I did!  They were leaked about a year ago on a Vans employee’s IG feed (recognizing a pattern here?), stating that they were going to be an upcoming Supreme release.  Well, fast-forward about a year and some months, and look what secretly showed up!  Supreme has dropped the Seylynn “S” in store, without any prior news release or official launch.  Sound familiar?  Remember back when they dropped the Zero Lo “S” in Navy?  It was an unofficial drop as well, however word spread to a few major blogs at the time.  This time, nothing!  Which made it nice for me, as I was able to stroll in about 3 days later and pick up my pairs.  As most of you know, the Seylynn is the same shoe as the Zero Lo, and there’s no understanding why the name was changed around the time that 8FIVE2 released their Seylynn “S” collab with Vans Syndicate.  There’s also another anomaly with this Supreme release.  These were produced in 2012, as it shows on the box label, around the same time that the 8FIVE2 version came out.  Perhaps there was a factory minimum?  Who knows!  All we know is that Supreme sat on them for a few years.  There are 3 colors, black, red, and blue.  I chose to pick up just the red and blue, as the black is identical to the OG Zero Lo “S” which I already have.  The inside lining is red leather, like most Supreme Vans, and there is a Supreme logo stamped in gold foil, along with the Luke Meier graphics that are on all Zero Lo’s.  These are awesome, and classy.  Get on down to Supreme, to see what they have left.  I imagine they are highly limited, and definitely worth adding to your Vans collection.

Vans Syndicate 026.164.3 x Odd Future – Old Skool “S” Pack (via @Silostore)

GOLF_WANG_GRAND-ISLAND

The homies over at Silo Store have just put up their own high-res pics of this weekend’s highly anticipated sophomore release of the Vans Syndicate x Odd Future “Golf Wang” Old Skool “S”.  This time they’ll be available in 3 colorways, which are listed below.  Say what you will about this polarizing release, but just from a design standpoint, have you ever seen any Vans like these before?  I didn’t think so.  That’s something you have to respect in this day and age of retro’s and rehashed shit.  These will have no problem selling out, but I just wanted to share Silo’s awesome photo work, giving us another point of view, and perhaps they can help you source a pair.  On a side note, if you’re looking for older Syndicates, then there’s a good chance that Silo has it in stock, or they can track it down for you.  Give them a call, and check out their webstore for their latest stuff, including these Golf Wang Old Skools that will be releasing this Saturday as a country wide coordinated release.  It’s all about that hype!

info via Silo:
