Vans Vault x DQM x Blue Note Records (Spring/Summer 2015)

14_bluenote_1200

Words via DQM:

“DQM has collaborated with Vans to produce a very special project with the iconic Blue Note Records. Releasing this Spring and Summer, the project includes two separate, consecutive footwear releases accompanied by a film featuring Don Was, the renowned musician/ producer President of Blue Note Records, and the legendary skateboarder and jazz-inspired contemporary musician Ray Barbee.

Founded in New York in 1939 by Alfred Lion and Max Margulis, Blue Note Records has just celebrated 75 years recording the world’s greatest jazz. Many Blue Note albums, especially from the 1950’s and early 1960’s, are considered to the be the finest jazz recordings of all time, such that the record label name itself is now synonymous with the seminal American music form.

The Blue Note Records project produced by DQM and Vans is inspired by the rhythm and extemporization that exists similarly within music, especially jazz, and skateboarding. Equally characterized by free-form thinking, style and improvisation, the art forms of music and skateboarding share a special connection. Both start with a simple stroke of the guitar, a push on a skateboard, and from there, its flow.

The project includes consecutive Vans footwear releases produced exclusively for DQM; an OG Era LX and an OG Sk8-Hi LX style in two colorways, ‘The Colors’, releasing in store on May 8th, and online on May 11th, and ‘The Blues’, releasing later in June. The shoes are constructed in 6oz canvas yardage printed with a collage featuring cover art from Blue Note’s epic catalog; each pair is unique.

Produced in a limited edition, the Blue Note Records footwear collection will be available in men’s and women’s sizes exclusively in store at The Vans DQM General in SoHo, New York and online at dqmnewyork.com”.

Vans Syndicate x Streetmachine – “The Copenhagen Session” Authentic Pro “S” & AV Classic “S” (Available Now!)

vans-syndicate-streetmachine-cph-copenhagen-session-slideshow-1

Words and pics via Streetmachine

For the AV Classic “S”:

Sessions in Copenhagen are more often than not combined through a string of bicycle journeys from spot to spot. In fact, the people of Copenhagen travel 1.270.000 km, or roughly 30 times around the Earth, by bike during an average day. It’s how we get around. When making your way through the streets of Copenhagen, chances have it you’ll be skating curbs, stair sets, concrete bowls, and hips, all in one day; the skateboarding is versatile and the footwear has to emphasize that.

We chose a classic yet modern Vans shoe, exemplifying the DNA of Copenhagen skateboard culture.

For the Authentic Pro “S”:

After having spent most of the winter in mental caves, we’re desperate to get out on the streets when the sun has finally returned. The whole city of Copenhagen goes mad when springtime hits and the streets are flooded with people. We shuffle back and forth between the city and the beach, skating spots and enjoying the weather before meeting up in the streets or the parks for beers and happy days; the so-called after session.

We chose a classic Vans-silhouette and added a contemporary yet summery touch to it, making it ideal for many after sessions to come.

Vans Vault x Sneakersnstuff – OG Classic Slip-On LX “Stockholm”

Words via SNS:

“The Sneakersnstuff x Vans OG Classic Slip-On LX ”Stockholm” is our first collaboration with Vans. Of course we looked to our hometown for inspiration. When the skateboard culture first appeared in Stockholm it was on Sergels Torg, or Plattan as most people from Stockholm calls it, you would find it. Taking the iconic Vans Slip-On with its black and white checkerboard pattern and just twist it to celebrate Plattan as a classic landmark in Stockholm with its characteristic triangular black and white pattern felt like a very natural thing to do.

The Sneakersnstuff x Vans OG Classic Slip-On LX ”Stockholm” features an upper in traditional canvas with a black and white triangular pattern on it. We made the lining in pigskin leather to give a more premium feeling. This Vans Vault limited edition release features the Vans and the SNS logo on the insoles, and also on the classic flag on the outside.

And to celebrate the history of the shoe, we also made 50 limited edition skate decks with the triangular pattern on one side, and the Vans Off the Wall logo plus the SNS logo on the other. The decks will be given away to Friends & Family of Vans and Sneakersnstuff, but we will also of course give our customers a chance to win one.

The Sneakersnstuff x Vans OG Classic Slip-On LX ”Stockholm” will be released in very limited numbers as part of the Vans Vault program – and only available at Sneakersnstuff May 9th.”

Vans x Descendents – Old Skool & Authentic (Re-issued!)

21171_400x400

At the beginning of the week we discovered that the Descendents dropped a bomb on us.  They re-issued their signature gray & blue Vans Old Skool & Authentics, featuring their main man Milo adorned on each shoe.  Word spread fast throughout our inner circles, and those who have been searching for their sizes for a long time finally had a chance to get them.  We even saw a pair or two trying to be unloaded on eBay, before the word got out that these were available.  The Old Skool is sold out for now, but there are still a few good sizes in the Authentic.  Jump on these while you still can by heading over to the Descendents webstore, and thanks to UTP forum member luisnskates for being one of the first to give us the heads up on these!
