Taka Hayashi x Vans Vault 2010 Spring Sk8-Hi TH LX

words via Hypebeast:

“Japanese designer Taka Hayashi has once again been enlisted by Vans to work on a model within their most premium line, the Vault series. The product of the collaboration is this innovative colorway of the Sk8-Hi LX, set for spring 2011. The boot uses an array of premium materials that are colored to appear seamlessly bonded. Making use of Hayashi’s signature pursuit of native patterned markings on the toe, the shoe will be available at the opening of next year.”

Vans Vault Velocita Fall/Winter 2011

Right on the heels of the Taka Hayashi x Pendleton release, Vans Vault is already dropping another model that was made popular by Taka Hayashi, the Velocita, for the Fall/Winter 2011 season.  This time around, they chose to use perforated suede on the side panels, and colormatching foxing stripes which are double-wide, like a lot of other Vans releases for this year.  They are available in grey, and brown, at Bows & Arrows in Berkeley.

Vans Vault x Pendleton x Taka Hayashi – TH-Hi Lx (review!)

At the end of last week, Vault dealers started receiving their shipments of the Vault x Pendleton x Taka Hayashi collection, and it wasn’t surprising to see these things fly off the shelves, and leave quite a bit of people unhappy, or with empty pockets after purchasing off of resellers.  When the hype monster is in full effect, the resellers come out and play.  I had to do a little bit of hunting, and frantic phone dialing, but I managed to pick up an 11 from Proper, for retail, plus shipping, and after hearing a few people on the forums say that these fit TTS (true-to-size), I knew I would need a bigger size.  Luckily, yesterday, I called up Conveyor in Santa Monica, and they had a 12 left!  I paid slightly over retail, but you all know it’s worth it, when it’s a size you can wear!  I was shaking my head, because just the day before, I was visiting the TheHundreds x Garfield pop-up shop in Santa Monica, right next door to Conveyor, and I contemplated walking in there, but decided not to.  Always go with your instincts!  Anyways, both pairs came today, and all I can say is, pay what you can afford for these things.  The rumor out there, is that there’s somewhere around 300 pairs of the TH-Hi’s (Sk8-hi’s), but of course, nothing’s confirmed.  Put it this way, even friends of ours who work for Vans, were out tracking down their pairs as well.  The blanket print from Pendleton, that Vans chose for this release, was a rarer print, that there wasn’t much material to go around, so that may have something to do with the scarcity of these.  The leather Taka chose for this shoe, is top-notch, and very soft.  The inside is also lined with black leather, as well as the removable footbed.  I also took pics of the shoe laced up in the optional off-white/beige colored laces, as well as the round leather laces.  These are starting to dry up at retailers, and are starting to show up on eBay, so good luck getting a pair for a reasonable price right now.  Maybe after the hype dies a little, but then again, Taka’s Native American influence is timeless and original, regardless of the collections of many other brands this season.  Don’t think that he was just following the trends.  It’s much more, the other way around.

The time has finally come!  The newest addition from Taka Hayashi is now available as of today at most of your Vault dealers.  The sk8-hi, and slip-on themed models, dubbed the Hi, and Lo, were chosen this time, and to add a cherry on top, Pendleton also came on board to add their Native American touches to the shoes, by way of their wool prints.  These are now available at Bows And Arrows Berkeley.

Vans Vault x Filson Sk8-Hi (review!)

Once again, it’s time for another Vans review.  This time, going with one of the best releases of this year from Vans Vault, and one of the better collaborations on the seemingly endless list of past projects.  You may still be able to find these at your local Vault dealer, but they are surely not fully stocked.  This is the kind of shoe that sits on the shelf for a little while, but steadily starts to disappear.  The reasons are not clear.  Perhaps the higher price tag?  People may be saving up for these, being that they run typically $40 higher than the average Sk8-hi, and $20 higher than the average Vault Sk8-hi.  The Filson slogan reads, “Might as well have the best!”, meaning that the price may be a bit higher, but it’s well worth it.  If you don’t believe it, then check out the recent video over on offthewall.tv, where you can learn all about the Filson history, and the back story for this project.

The sk8-hi is constructed with the signature Filson canvas, and bridle leather material, in their signature brown colors.  You’d be hard pressed to find a finer leather than this, on a pair of Vans.  The shoes have a rustic look and feel, and wearing these over time, the leather and canvas will break in, and will probably look better than it does now!  Will I dare break these in?  I really should.  The tongue is stamped with the Filson branding, and the tongue backing has a large “Genuine Filson Garment” tag of authenticity.  The removable padded insert does as well, on the heel.  I’ve taken a few up close shots for you all to get a better idea of the materials and craftsmanship on these, and I hope you like them as much as I do!

Vans Vault Half Cab LX DRI

The DRI series from Vault is one of the nicest non-collaborative releases for this season, and the colors are on point.  Available in Black, Sedona Sage (gray), and Apricot scotchguarded leather, with DRI technology insoles.  They are very comfortable, and keep your feet surprisingly cool and dry.  It seems like Vault dealers haven’t received these yet, but they should be out soon, just before the holidays.
