This release has been a long time in the making, and has been anticipated by many Vans sneaker collectors “in the know”. Two world-famous Southern California brands, both with die-hard followers, both representing two separate cultures, but relating to most people of all ages in our region. The information has been kept quiet pretty well, considering the magnitude of this collaboration. I mean, anytime you work with Disney on a special project, you’d better expect a little bit of a frenzy to occur. This past week, Vans Vault accounts have been slowly getting their pairs delivered, and perhaps it’s a good thing that there wasn’t a coordinated launch date, or announcement, so that there could be some surprise and excitement around hunting down your pair(s). One thing’s for sure, once we posted the info up on our Instagram account, by the end of the day, we had 90 comments! That’s a record, and most were people tagging other people, spreading the word like wildfire! Being a Vans collector has it’s benefits at times like this, such as knowing where to find these. We know pretty much all of the Vault accounts, so we pay close attention to them, watching for that drop info. The Disney fans come out of the wood work with releases like this, especially here in SoCal. I know this beast all too well, as an annual passholder, and as a former pin trader, I know the extents of what this Disneybeast will do for all things Disneyana. We have the edge though, since this release was under Vans Vault. They will have to search hard and travel far to find these.
Featured in the collection, are all retro models, something that is designated to the Van Doren line from Vans, and thus why this release is featured under Vault and Van Doren respectively. Vans sourced out a few original Made in USA models, and recreated the prints that were once used on the earlier 80’s Disney Vans that some of you are familiar with. You’ll find Mickey, Donald, and Winnie The Pooh on the Authentics, which were also made in a toddler version, which is a treat for us Vault fans, as the last time we saw this, was with the UNDFTD Hernan Era LX release, and before that, the Uniphant Authentics I believe. Basically, buy them when they come out!!! There’s also two Sk8-Hi Reissues, one in a blue suede with Donald print, and another in red suede with a Mickey square print. These are dope, and all Disney fans need them!
These pics are via Proper, which just dropped theirs this past week. Undefeated also dropped them as well, and Blends is due to drop theirs soon. Search around hard enough, and you’ll find them!

I like that most recent significant Vans releases have been kept under wraps. I mean, we saw preview pics of one of these shoes awhile back, when Bodega released their apparel lookbook, but other than those pictures, there was no info what so ever. No build up to the release. No leaked photos. Nothing. Perhaps they’re super limited, and they don’t want to create a demand that will far outnumber the supply. We’ll just have to wait and see!
Here’s a little info from Bodega:
“Our design team recently paired up with Vans to create the ‘Coming to America’ Pack. The collection consists of three different and intricately designed OG Authentic LX models. Each color way features patterned fabrics that have African origins. The sneaker comes with an “Off the Wall” branded box and cinch bag with additional raw hyde laces. The Vans logo still appears on the upper, while a hidden Bodega logo is printed on the insole. Other unique features include tortoise shell lace eyelets, top edge leather piping, and gum toes. This collection stays true to our mission; to curate and create, rare quality goods.”

So I guess it’s appropriate to start posting pictures up of the upcoming Vault x W)Taps collection! This has been on our radar for a little while now, and we’ve been keeping it to our greedy selves, that is until it hit Highsnobiety! Thanks a lot! Highsnob mentioned something that is news to us, and that’s that these will be Made in the USA. Although that seems highly unlikely for Vans, it is certainly possible, especially for a collab like W)Taps. The collection seen here, will consists of all classic models, inlcuding a Chukka, a Sk8-Hi, and a Slip-On. Premium suede, and canvas wrap each model, and some nice blacks and blues make up the majority of the colorways seen here. There’s also some tan and brown mixed in to a few models as well. As more info becomes available, we’ll post it here, so until then, enjoy the few pics that I’ve gathered from our forum after the jump!

“The Vans – OTH Boutique in Montreal recently celebrated its 2nd anniversary, attracting the beautiful people of the city’s social scene to l’Astral for a night of music, dancing and general celebration. With OTH Boutique being a driving force in Montreal’s streetwear scene, the event drew some influential figures. To commemorate the event, iconic designer Taka Hayashi teamed up with Vans to offer a fresh version of the Style 36 Originals LX silhouette. This appropriately light version is executed with an off-white canvas upper, with hints of tonal suede around the toecap and heel counter. Limited to 96 pairs, the sneaker is delivered in a hand-numbered custom canvas wrapping, a fitting package for such a clean piece.”

Sole Classics has just dropped a few new teaser shots of their upcoming collaboration with Vans Vault, dubbed “Carmen”, an Era LX featuring a treated “fading” white canvas material, with an instantly recognizable red vulcanized sole. There’s a tumbled leather ankle tab, as well as a tanned leather lining and tongue binding. There was also a short video made as well, so check it out, and let us know what you think! They’re definitely something we haven’t seen before, and I think I like that! Coming May 25th!

Words via SoleClassics:
“Sole Classics, Columbus, Ohio’s only premium sneaker boutique, will collaborate with Vans to release a limited edition Vans Vault sneaker nicknamed “Carmen”. As the only Vault account in Ohio, Sole Classics has put together a shoe that will detail the culture and lifestyle of the entire state, while pushing the envelope creatively. This is a historical opportunity as the project is not only the first to come out of Ohio, but it will also feature a first-time technique that has yet to be executed by Vans.
