Vans Vault has just released their latest OG Sk8-Hi LX’s, in a style straight out of the 70’s. The Phantom Blue model is the obvious favorite amongst most, but that Turtle Green colorway is something we don’t see very often and just might be the low-key winner here. They’re both bold and beautiful, featuring a mixture of heavy canvas, and suede. The OG labeling lets you know these are shaped like the originals, right down to the silk-screened heel tab. Look for these at your local Vault dealer, and shouts to Bows & Arrows for the pics on these!

“DQM has collaborated with Vans to produce a very special project with the iconic Blue Note Records. Releasing this Spring and Summer, the project includes two separate, consecutive footwear releases accompanied by a film featuring Don Was, the renowned musician/ producer President of Blue Note Records, and the legendary skateboarder and jazz-inspired contemporary musician Ray Barbee.
Founded in New York in 1939 by Alfred Lion and Max Margulis, Blue Note Records has just celebrated 75 years recording the world’s greatest jazz. Many Blue Note albums, especially from the 1950’s and early 1960’s, are considered to the be the finest jazz recordings of all time, such that the record label name itself is now synonymous with the seminal American music form.
The Blue Note Records project produced by DQM and Vans is inspired by the rhythm and extemporization that exists similarly within music, especially jazz, and skateboarding. Equally characterized by free-form thinking, style and improvisation, the art forms of music and skateboarding share a special connection. Both start with a simple stroke of the guitar, a push on a skateboard, and from there, its flow.
The project includes consecutive Vans footwear releases produced exclusively for DQM; an OG Era LX and an OG Sk8-Hi LX style in two colorways, ‘The Colors’, releasing in store on May 8th, and online on May 11th, and ‘The Blues’, releasing later in June. The shoes are constructed in 6oz canvas yardage printed with a collage featuring cover art from Blue Note’s epic catalog; each pair is unique.
Produced in a limited edition, the Blue Note Records footwear collection will be available in men’s and women’s sizes exclusively in store at The Vans DQM General in SoHo, New York and online at dqmnewyork.com”.

Words via SNS:
“The Sneakersnstuff x Vans OG Classic Slip-On LX ”Stockholm” is our first collaboration with Vans. Of course we looked to our hometown for inspiration. When the skateboard culture first appeared in Stockholm it was on Sergels Torg, or Plattan as most people from Stockholm calls it, you would find it. Taking the iconic Vans Slip-On with its black and white checkerboard pattern and just twist it to celebrate Plattan as a classic landmark in Stockholm with its characteristic triangular black and white pattern felt like a very natural thing to do.
The Sneakersnstuff x Vans OG Classic Slip-On LX ”Stockholm” features an upper in traditional canvas with a black and white triangular pattern on it. We made the lining in pigskin leather to give a more premium feeling. This Vans Vault limited edition release features the Vans and the SNS logo on the insoles, and also on the classic flag on the outside.
And to celebrate the history of the shoe, we also made 50 limited edition skate decks with the triangular pattern on one side, and the Vans Off the Wall logo plus the SNS logo on the other. The decks will be given away to Friends & Family of Vans and Sneakersnstuff, but we will also of course give our customers a chance to win one.
The Sneakersnstuff x Vans OG Classic Slip-On LX ”Stockholm” will be released in very limited numbers as part of the Vans Vault program – and only available at Sneakersnstuff May 9th.”

Another one of our UTP friends, Daniel, aka @danthesoleman, has been putting out a few awesome reviews on some of our favorite high end Vans. Enjoy his perspective on these Vault x Taka Hayashi Sk8-Mid Skool LX’s, and check out his Youtube channel danthesoleman.
Words via Highsnobiety:
“Combining craftsmanship and high-end materializations, artist Taka Hayashi continues to produce luxurious sneaker designs under Vans’ premium label, Vault by Vans. This spring, Hayashi reissues two of his deluxe silhouettes, the TH Priz Hi LX and TH Sk8-Mid LX, in updated colorways. Inspired by the build of the Vans Prison Issue, the TH Priz Hi LX is an elevated extension of the low-top. Created by Taka five years ago, the split-paneled TH Priz Hi LX returns in a refined off-white canvas and brown leather form complete with perforated heel panels, embroidered ankle straps and tonal waxed laces. Last seen in Spring 2014, the TH Sk8-Mid LX resurfaces in two color-ups – Khaki and New Navy – featuring the stitched Cross Pattern on the medial and lateral sides of each shoe. This re-imagining of the Vans Sk8-Mid is further detailed with suede materials, leather Sidestripe overlays, rawhide lacing and raised toe box foxing.”
We’re definitely looking forward to this pack, especially the TH Priz Hi LX in it’s slightly updated form, mainly the toe. The native american bead work on the straps are one of Taka’s greatest features and hopefully it’s used a little more often in some future creations. The Sk8-Mid LX is also an awesome design, and the khaki and light blue colorway is looking perfect for Summer. These should be arriving in April at your favorite Vault account.

As of until now, we’ve only seen the Old Skool Zip LX from Blends, in their iconic “Bones” version, which most of you know are hard to come by, and when word got out that Vans was going to be introducing the zipper on the Old Skool for 2015, in the Vault and California lines, many were stoked for it, as the Old Skool Zip is a great idea. Who doesn’t want to easily step in and out of their shoes, instead of loosening up like 5 rows of laces! They’ll be offered in 4 premium leather colorways: Black/White, Andorra/Cream, Peacoat/Cream, and White/Royal Blue. Honestly, we had no idea how great these were going to turn out, but the leather and the colors chosen are going to make these even more of a hit than anticipated. Is it too soon to predict that Vault just might take the lead over California this year?!
