Words again by Hypebeast:

“A collaboration from two acclaimed mainstays, Japan’s WTAPS again lends its bold athletics to Vans. Not one to shy away from compelling use of luxe fabrics, The Fall/Winter 2015 range looks to an apt blend of suede and leather in its construction. Introducing three monochromatic colorways that take black, burgundy and navy tones to the floor, the OG Style 36 LX is the original rendering of the Old Skool, showcasing the same foxing height, padding density, fit and other attributes as its first size run from 35-plus years ago.”

Vans Vault x OTH – AΩ Slip-On LX (UTP Review!) @othboutique @vanscanada

IMG_7979

Every year there seems to be a style trend with Vans sneakers.  Whether it’s influenced by seasons, celebrities, or taste makers, we all know that a trend can come and go like the wind, and with a vast catalog of styles to choose from, Vans can offer up just about anything for anyone.  With that said, this is definitely the year of the Slip-On.  Many collaborators have chosen this unassuming laid back model, and I’m sure I’m forgetting a few, but here’s some that come to mind.  Murakami, Sneakersnstuff, Slam Jam, Barneys, Dime, Harmony Korine, and now add OTH to that list.

Montreal’s Offthehook consistently puts out stunning Vault By Vans collabs, choosing colors and materials that are just plain and simply timeless. No trendy color palettes or patterns.  No embellished story.  Just pure quality.  This time we see a neutral-friendly grey in a combination of suede and canvas, with just enough Greek-inspired accent colors on the elastic to let you know these aren’t average.  At face value, you might be turned away by the huge embossed letters on each toe, but to be honest, the branding is only noticeable up close, and besides…It represents OTH!!!  These feature a standard white collar lining that are found on most Vans, and the footbeds are the slimmer Ortholite ones with an added leather heel pad, found on most OG Vault styles, so size accordingly.  These finish off nicely with a custom black and white heel tab.  One last thing to mention is that these come in a sturdy drawer box with dustbag.  Us collectors love our drawer boxes, because it allows us to stack more pairs.  Oh, you don’t know what that’s like?  I envy you!

All in all, OTH continues to bring solid collaborations, that are wearable almost anytime, anywhere.  They’ve got their style dialed in, and it’s clean, preppy, mature, and all things we eventually aspire to be.  Eeevennntuallllly!!

Vans Vault x OTH – AΩ Slip-On LX (9.3.15) @othboutique @vanscanada

OFF THE HOOK and Vans Canada have come together to bring to us another sneaker collaboration under our favorite line, Vault By Vans. They chose the Slip-On LX this time around, and the style is casual yet mature.  It’s not until you get up close, that you notice the embossed letters on top of each suede upper, and the real eye-catcher is the blue and white striped elastic, which lets you know that these are the OTH “AΩ’s”.

Some words via OTH:

“The letters AΩ have great significance in Greek culture, and symbolize that every story has a beginning and an end.  With OFF THE HOOK celebrating its 15 year anniversary, the AΩ Project serves as a way to examine the shop’s roots and its history over the last decade and a half. Thus, the AΩ Slip-On LX touches on both the Greek roots of OFF THE HOOK’s founders, and its history within Montreal’s streetwear scene. The letter A is lightly embossed on the top of the right shoe, while the left shoe carries an embossed Ω. Further tying together the joint heritage in Greece and Quebec is the colour-scheme, which features grey suede and blue stripes, with grey symbolizing a solid foundation as it’s a classic colour that can be worn season after season and blue stripes representing both Greece and Quebec”.

Vans Vault x Barneys – “Sole Series” OG Classic Slip-On LX (August 2015)

080515_SET12_SOLESERIES_CREATIVE_RF15210_gkwrbo

info via Complex

Barneys is teaming up with Vans Vault to create this luxury OG Classic Slip-On LX.  Constructed in a premium leather, woven together to create the iconic checkerboard pattern that we’re all fond of.  When asked about the inspiration for the design, Barneys said “We were cleaning out our sample closet last spring and found this cool material an old sneaker was made out of—a thin grain leather on one side, suede on the other. We sent it to Vans to see if they could develop it into a fabric that could be cut and woven and used for a slip-on sneaker,” said Chris Pepe, Barneys’ senior buyer of men’s footwear. “We did several rounds of samples trying to get the texture, thickness, and color right”.  Barneys chose a black/white colorway to represent Vans, and a black/navy colorway to showcase their own particular style.  These Slip-Ons are a thing of beauty, and hopefully you can get your hands on them when they release.  Retail is set at $165.

Vans Vault x WTAPS – Capsule Collection (Fall/Winter 2015)

wtaps-x-vans-2015-fall-winter-preview-1

It looks like some official info is starting to come out now, regarding the upcoming Vans Vault x WTAPS F/W 2015 collection.  Thanks to GRIND, we get an official sneak peek at the OG Sk8-Hi LX, OG Style 36 LX, and OG Era LX line-up.  I see a few gems in there, and a few head scratchers, but there’s something for everyone.  Expect to see some official info on these in the near future.

Vans Vault x EXI.T – Sk8-Hi Reissue Zip LX (August 2015)

exi-t-vans-sk8-hi-sneaker-1

Info via Highsnobiety:

“Hong Kong retailer EXI.T links with Vans to give the Sk8-Hi sneaker a luxurious makeover. Lifting Rick Owens’ signature black-and-cream colorway and applying it to Vans’ iconic skate mid-top, the sneaker sports a premium leather and suede upper, and is finished with a zipper upon the heel counter. Given the popularity of the Dark Lord’s oversized leather high-tops, we imagine EXI.T’s tongue-in-cheek nod to Rick Owens will go down a storm amongst Hong Kong sneakerheads and fashionistas alike.”

Vans Vault and DQM have put together this English raincoat-inspired Old Skool LX set, called the “Square Ones: Vansguard” pack.  We rarely see this minimalistic style with the embroidered lace eyelets, relaxed tonal brushed twill uppers, and contrasting all-white vulcanized soles, but it’s a great look and they are truly comfortable.  They will be available in Black, Nautical Blue, and Seneca Rock, and will feature the Ortholite insoles that you’re familiar with on your typical Vans California models.  Stay tuned to DQM for more official pics and info.

Vans Vault x Gosha Rubchinskiy – Sk8-Hi LX “Style 138” (Summer 2015)

03-08-2015_vans_sk8hilx_red_blackrubber_1_dl

Words via END:

“Russian designer Gosha Rubchinskiy launches another collaboration with fellow skateboarding brand Vans. After re-working an old-school slip on sneaker in 2014, the two have mashed-up their designs once again to create the Sk8-Hi for A/W’15.

The Sk8-Hi rejuvenates the usual canvas uppers with premium suede featuring contrast stitching of the vans stripe logo to sides. Old-School rubber reinforcements on the toe box and side panels for skateboarding have been added.”

These were originally known as the Style 138, with a rubber crescent moon toe cap, and an ollie pad.  For more retro knowledge, check out Pillowheat on Instagram!
