Blends Hints At A New Bones Decon Sk8-Hi!

blends-vans-vault-sh8-hi-bones-1

Last week, Blends sent out a link to their Autumn/Winter 2016 lookbook, and just like with the Peacoat Bones release, they revealed a new collab in the photoshoot.  This appears to be a Sk8-Hi Decon in black with white contrast stitching.  Not sure if this one has a zipper like the prior pairs, but the absence of different panels on the shoe makes for a dope minimalistic look, a style that is signature to Blends.  No official info has been released as of yet, but stay tuned!

Vault by Vans x Highs and Lows – Sk8-Hi LX & Old Skool Zip LX (9.17.16)

HALsk8hi1

Words via Highs And Lows:

“In celebration of Vans’ 50th anniversary and our on-going partnership with Vans of 10 years, together we are proud to present the Vans Vault by Highs and Lows Sk8-Hi LX and Old Skool Zip LX. A two shoe collection that embraces late eighties signature skate heritage but executed through premium materials on instantly recognizable and classic Vans silhouettes – both offerings include uppers treated with a mixture of waxed suede whilst the printed canvas is unique to the Sk8-Hi, whereas the Old Skool features a more robust ballistic nylon mesh and heavy-duty medial zip. The use of silver eyelets, marled lining and contrast stitch details act as a nod to the properties of tin and alloy, a celebratory element of our on-going partnership together with Vans. The outsoles are treated in an iced, transparent finish which reveal ‘HIGHS’ and ‘LOWS’ wording respective to the Sk8-Hi and Old Skool – both the Sk8-Hi LX and Old Skool Zip LX will be available this Saturday, September 17 through a special one-day pop up event at 448 Beaufort Street and will be releasing alongside our new Highs and Lows Spring apparel collection.”

Vans Vault – OG Sk8-Hi, Old Skool, and Era LX (Available Now @hotrodla) #HRLA

Sk8Hiraven

Boy, all of the new round of Vaults this season are amazing, especially with the OG series.  They continue to come up with unique vintage-esque colorways that just seem to work really fucking well.  We already love our OG Vaults, mainly because of the vintage shape, heavyweight canvas/suede combos, and leather linings, oh and I can’t forget the awesomely affordable prices, but it’s the colors that really make them such a hit.  You have to have a few pairs in your footwear rotation at all times.  For the current offerings, Vault did the OG Old Skool up in an Olive or Bronze colorway, while the OG Era was done up in a Lead colorway which we first got a glimpse of with the Prison Issue awhile back, and the Sk8-Hi now sees the same color mock-up as well as a Raven colorway which is the favorite amongst most, with it’s dark charcoal (almost black) color.  Following in the theme of all the prior OG releases from earlier in the year, each pair sports a classic royal blue foxing stripe.  Classic indeed.  Classy fasho.  Thanks to Hot Rod, we get a first look and chance to buy these, but your local Vault dealers will be dropping these soon if not already.

Vans Vault – Sk8-Hi Reissue Lite LX & Old Skool Lite LX (Available Now @properlbc)

VN0A2Y31KCHs

Proper gives us one of the first looks at the latest Vans Vault Lite collection.  The popularity of the Lite models has really started to take off, especially since it looks like the manufacturing processes of the soles have improved.  We’re starting to see less angles and creases in the one-piece UltraCush foxing, making them look even closer to our beloved classics, but the comfort is still top-notch compared to any other Vans out there.  This season, Vault went with a premium tonal nubuck for the entire uppers, available in some stunning colorways such as Dark Steel, Blue, Brown, Black, and Navy, but these aren’t your typical basic colors by any means.  The pics Proper took will give you a much better perspective.  As with most of these Vault Lites, the prices are a little bit higher than what we’re used to, but considering that the soles last longer, and are much easier to clean (baby wipes does the trick, no lie!), you’ll definitely be getting your money’s worth.

Now available from Proper, and will be hitting your local Vault dealer soon!

Vans Vault x Wtaps – “Original Classics” Collection (8.20.16)

VANS_WTAPS

Vans and WTAPS mark a new milestone in their storied partnership to unveil a premium 10-piece footwear and apparel collection, deeply rooted in a philosophy derived from the finest Japanese craftsmanship.  As Vans celebrates its 50th anniversary and WTAPS approaches their 20th year, both brands honor their history by introducing an Anaconda-inspired embossed leather pack in three new colorways, alongside a collection of Vault by Vans Original Classics highlighting the coveted Bones motif.  Arguably the most sought-after design emblem in the history of Vans x WTAPS projects, the white stitched Bones motif resurfaces on black and olive executions of the OG Sk8-Hi LX, OG Chukka Boot LX and OG Authentic LX. Each style is unified by the coveted Bones pattern stitched across the quarter panels, complete with a solid toecap design.  A unique piece to round out the fall collection reveals a premium military-inspired jacket, sporting the all-over Bones motif and a final, expressive touch that reads “Vans #1 Waffle Lovers Club” stitched on the back.  Launched in 1996, WTAPS director Tetsu Nishiyama, or “TET”, has built a brand that defines modern design in a league of its own. No stranger to Vans, WTAPS celebrate more than a decade of limited edition collaborations with the brand under the Vans Syndicate and Vault by Vans labels.

The Vault by Vans x WTAPS collection retails from $65 to $360 and launches in Japan on August 20, 2016. Vans Vault x Robert Williams – More Pics From The Event!

20160723-_MG_2814

I admit I’m not the best when it comes to media coverage of events, and that’s why I try to provide a more personal approach to my recaps.  Thankfully we have other nice folks at Vans willing to cover our asses when it comes to the media side of things, providing much more outstanding photos than I was able to take.  Thank you Vans once again, and hopefully we’ll meet up again for another one of these things.

Vans Vault x Robert Williams – Release Party Recap (7.23.16)

Robt1

When our friends at Vans send out the invite for a special occasion, you know we try to do our best to provide you with the same experiences that we are fortunate to have.  As a true Vans fan boy, I’ll always consider myself lucky to be a part of these things, and to be able to rub elbows and chop it up with like-minded individuals about Vans…it just doesn’t get better than that.  This was a night to celebrate Robert Williams though, and his collaboration with Vault by Vans  for Vans’ 50th Anniversary celebration, and just like I’ve done in the past, I want to take you along for the evening’s festivities as if you were there with me, like I hope most of you wanted to be.

Vans Vault x Engineered Garments – OG Sk8-Hi LX (July 2016)

vans_vn0003t0kdm_02

Engineered Garments has teamed up with Vans Vault once again, to release this 3-pack of OG Sk8-Hi LX’s, this time going in a different direction than their prior “mis-matched” styles that they’re known for.  For this pack, all 3 Sk8-Hi’s are constructed in the same black premium leather and sude, but the lateral (inside) panels of each shoe are constructed in one of 3 canvas colors: olive, black, or navy.  That same colored canvas can be seen on the medial eye-lace row.  If you’re confused, just look at the pictures, but you’ll see what I mean!  The overall aesthetic is mature, and subtle, with a little bit of mismatched fun.  At least each shoe is a mirror reflection of each other this time around, which some might prefer.  These are now available exclusively from UBIQ for $110 each.

Vans Vault x Robert Williams – “Vans 50th Anniversary” Collection (7.23.16)

FA16_Vault_RobertWilliams_BP_JalapenaCobrasMalfeasance_Line2In 2009, Vans Vault teamed up with “lowbrow” artist Robert Williams, to create a small collection of shoes, showcasing his artistic style, and introducing him to a new audience in those Vans collectors, like us.  Known for his works in the hot rod car custom culture, he’s a well known figure in that community, and it’s nice to see that Vans has collaborated with him again on this 50th Anniversary collection.

Read what Vans has to say below.

“Vans, the original action sports footwear and apparel brand, has collaborated with one of America’s most maligned underground artists, Robert Williams, to bring his psychedelic artwork to life in a limited edition Vault by Vans capsule, introducing a striking trio of classic footwear, deluxe shirts, and a very special Fender Stratocaster Guitar. With an approach that celebrates Vans’ 50th anniversary, the Vault by Vans x Robert Williams collection sustains the design elements of past Robert Williams partnerships by showcasing Robert’s intense creativity and imagination across Vans iconic forms.

In the late 20th and early 21st centuries, a new form of realism through paint presented perspectives that challenged the definition of fine art, focusing on the figurative graphics that formal art tended to reject: comic books, hot rod culture, surfer illustrations, movie posters and trading cards, to name a few. It was Robert Williams’ groundbreaking 1979 book, The Lowbrow Art of Robert Williams, that introduced the term “lowbrow” into the fine arts lexicon, fostering the evolution of “outlaw culture” in the art space. The Vault by Vans x Robert Williams offering features three prominent paintings by Robert that speak to this form of fine art including “Flaming Cobras”, “Malfeasance” and “Jalapeña.

The Sk8-Hi 38 Decon LX, a deluxe version of Vans’ iconic high-top silhouette, reveals Robert’s intricate line art from the “Flaming Cobras” painting, which has been adapted to the shoe’s upper and lining. The panels of the Authentic 44 Reissue LX are covered with Robert’s “Malfeasance” and the outsole displays its central theme exposed through clear rubber. The Slip-On 98 Reissue LA “Jalapeña” features one of Robert’s iconic works from the 1980s. The bold colors and heavy textural brushwork are featured on the toe and heel, while black leather is featured on the quarter panels and sockliner top sheet. All three styles feature an illustration printed under a unique clear rubber sole for an understated simplicity.

Finally, Robert Williams’ personal signature is highlighted on the rear foxing tape accompanied by Vans “Off The Wall” heel scab and signature capsule logos on the footbeds. Each style will be packaged with printed cotton carry bags with Robert Williams uncrossed artwork inside of a custom pull-drawer shoebox.

Vault by Vans x Robert Williams will also introduce a series of three classic t-shirts, bringing his artwork to a signature casual staple in vintage black, vintage yellow and white. The final piece of the collection is a stunning Fender Stratocaster Guitar, reimagining Robert Williams’ “Jalapeña” artwork in a full graphic print wrap around the body and guitar case.

The Vault by Vans x Robert Williams collection retails from $50 to $2,500 USD and launches globally on July 23, 2016 at select accounts including BLENDS, Hot Rod, Bodega, Si Vas Descalzo and Goodhood. Learn more about this special project at Vans.com/vault.”
