Vault By Vans – ComfyCush Pack (Jan. 2019)

VN0A45JYVNP1_1_1600x

This is the first look we get at Vans’ latest innovation called ComfyCush, which is their latest approach to modernizing their classic silhouettes for better comfort.  Utilizing the same comfort and design elements from the UltraCush “Lite” product line, this updated rendition has a much improved shape, getting as close as you can to the classic vulcanized shape we all love with our everyday Vans.  If you recall, the previous versions had a slightly bulky, and extruded “marshmallow” shape to it, especially around the edges of the foxing stripe, but that looks to be all gone with the ComfyCush soles.

For this inaugural release, Vault By Vans introduces us to the ComfyCush line with a Sk8-Hi Reissue LX, and an Era LX, constructed in a woven hair suede checkerboard design, with solid nubuck panels.  The pack consists of a few red, blue, or black colorways, contrasting with white.  These haven’t shown up here in the US yet, but Hanon has listed them up on their site.  This just might be the game changer that we’ve been waiting for, and I can’t wait to try these out.

Vault By Vans x Kith x Mastermind – “Peace On Earth/World On Fire” Collection (1.18.19) #KITH #MastermindJapan @kith

2_b217b2b0-06b0-458a-a1e3-4318fbc751c2_2048x.progressive

This is Kith’s first Vans collab, and leave it up to them to come out strong for their initial offering.  As a longtime avid sneaker collector, myself, who supported Ronnie Fieg early on during his David.Z days, it comes as no surprise that Ronnie, an enthusiast of sneakers, who keeps his ear to the street and his finger on the pulse of the current sneaker culture, would release a Vans collab of this magnitude.  I mean, first off, Kith decided to bring on Japanese label Mastermind for a 3-way collection, who design some of the dopest Japan-exclusive Vans.  That alone says we didn’t come to fuck around.  Next, just look at the amount of details that went into each shoe.  You have ultra-premium leather, sherpa linings, custom-branded lace eyelets, debossed vulcanized foxing, as well as some custom metal logos all over the entire collection.  You might even say that there is too much customization going on, but I think they were going for the over-the-top first impression, agree?  They also have a slightly more subtle tonal black offering as well, but even those still have the logos, branding, and customization throughout each shoe.  We don’t see pricing yet, and that’s scary, because I want them all, and I know it’s going to hurt!  Y’all couldn’t have just released one or two pairs, huh?!  Congrats on your first Vans collab, and hopefully you do many more!  (Waiting for a Salmon Toe Vans release!)

Words via Kith:

“Kith collaborates with Vans for the first time, as the brand adds to the coveted lineage of mastermind’s partnership with Vans. These tri-branded models include two Sk8-Hi Zip LX, an Old Skool LX, and an OG Classic Slip-On.

The Sk8-Hi Zip LX in black features a canvas and nubuck upper with silver hardware, while the brown model is crafted from leather with lux sherpa lining and gold hardware. This brown makeup is also applied to the Old Skool LX, while the OG Classic Slip-On is coated in a black Kith monogram pattern. All four models also have the collection’s phrase “Peace on Earth / World on Fire” debossed into the soles.”

Vault By Vans x Bows And Arrows – “5×5” OG Sk8-Hi LX (UTP P/Review & On-Feet Pics) @bowsandarrowsberkeley #bowsandarrowsberkeley

BandAUTP3

We’ve been posting up a lot of info lately, about this weekend’s upcoming 5×5 project, between 5 Vault retailers, and I’ve been fortunate enough to have been gifted a pair of these amazing OG Sk8-Hi LXs from Bows And Arrows up in NorCal.  We’ve already talked extensively about the features of the shoe, but this is one of those shoes that plays a lot with textures, and you sometimes need a few macro shots to really get the full impact.  It’s the suppleness of the leather that we’re talking about.  It’s padded, so it’s soft, and smooth, yet wrinkly when you press on it, and each stitch just sinks into the leather oh so nicely.  *cue your favorite Barry White background music*.  The way the blue, red, and yellow triple-jazz stripes are layered on top of each other, creates this ripple-effect that just looks so sexy, sitting on top of that black leather, and the white contrast stitching shows off every single line, silhouette and panel that is used to create an OG Sk8-Hi LX, one of the most popular and iconic Vans shoes of all time.  This shoe gives off an emotion that you just can’t deny.  The custom printed laces are also a nice touch, which I’m glad to see more of now days.  I think it’s a sneakerhead thing.  Bows keeps it clean and classy, by only putting a very minimal brand logo on the tongue, and it’s worth noting that the waffle soles carry the same triple striped color theme as well.  No drawer box for this release, but the box is printed with a custom “5×5” logo, for a nice finishing touch.

It’s not very often that I get to get my hands on releases early, but I’m always grateful for when I do, and I try to do a good job at giving a real perspective on what you’d be getting if you decide to purchase.  I hope you enjoy the pics and info I’ve shared on these, and like always, hopefully it kicks you off the fence if you’re feeling a little uncertain about whether you’re leaning towards a cop or a drop.  Enjoy all the pics I took for y’all, and a special thanks goes out to Jerry!

The shoes release this Saturday on bowsandarrowsberkeley.com, so follow them for the details!

Vault By Vans – “5×5 Project” Line-up (Releasing 12.15.18)

201812110607480988

So right after we released the Bows And Arrows collab, we saw that Hypebeast posted up the names of the other four shops taking part in this 5×5 project.  Joining Bows And Arrows will be the following Vault retailers: Chicago’s Notre, Seoul Korea’s WORKSOUT, Italy’s Slam Jam, and Antwerp Belgium’s Vier.  Each shop has a unique shoe, none similar to each others, and no common theme.  Just 5 shops, releasing a collab at the same time.  Since we’ve already featured the B&A shoe, we will just talk a little bit about each of the other ones.

Notre, known for curating some of the higher end brands you may or may not have heard of, have gone with an OG Old Skool, covered in green and light gray hairy suede, with a unique hand-shaking jazz stripe.  The color blocking is what stands out the most to me, on these, and they’re looking pretty clean!

WORKSOUT is one of the newer boutiques to carry Vaults, and for their first collab, we get an OG Authentic LX.  The design of their Authentic was inspired by Worksout’s iconic material “Zinc” and “Mesh” which is used for the exterior and the interior of the Worksout store. The shoe body is covered by “Mesh” and the metallic shoelace represents “Zinc”.  Finally, the hidden reflective layer represents the worthiness of WORKSOUT. (Translated…sorta.)

Slam Jam has had a few Vault collabs, and the OG Era LX they went with this time, is straight out of the 80’s.  Going with that BMX-pack feel, we get a white, red, and black checkerboard print, with some custom Slam Jam logotypes printed on the sidewalls, designed by Fergus Purcell aka “Fergadelic”.  There is also a hidden message printed on the gum waffle sole, that reads “Stamp Out Mediocrity”.  These are definitely not mediocre!

Vier, comes at us with the OG Slip-On LX, done up in a few different patterns.  Tiger stripes, and Palm Leafs.  The vulcanized sidewalls have a script message that reads “Vamos a la playa”, or “Come with us to the beach” if my 10th grade spanish serves me correct.

This is a cool little pack we have here.  I won’t rank them in any order of favorites, as there’s something here for everyone, but I like that each shop chose a different model, and I like that we get to see a few first-timers here with the Vault collabs.  Each shoe will be releasing this Saturday, 12/15, so keep an eye out on each shop’s site and social media for release info.

Vault By Vans x Bows And Arrows – OG Sk8-Hi LX “5×5” (12.15.18) @bows_and_arrows

We haven’t seen a Vans collab with Berkeley’s Bows And Arrows for a minute, but sometimes you just have to wait for greatness!  This particular release, is a 5-shop project, like we saw a few years back to promote the then newly released Vault OG Runner LX.  The current project has been kept pretty close to the vest, and this is the first we’ve heard about it, and as far as we know, none of the other shops have released any pics or info about their contribution.  We aren’t even sure who else is involved.

Bows And Arrows has gone with one of their favorite models, the Sk8-Hi, and turned it into something that is distinctly theirs.  Right away, you see a triple-wide jazz stripe, in bold blue, red, and yellow colors.  The shoe is inspired by traditional motorsports and graphics, and the all-black leather, with black soles, and white contrast stitching, along with the photo shoot in the old automotive garage also helps drive home that aesthetic.  Minimal branding can be found on a tongue tag, as well as on the inside heel pad, and the waffle soles feature the same primary colors as the jazz stripe, in a striped pattern.

The shoe is set to release this coming Saturday, the 15th, for a set price of $110, according to a comment on their IG, which is a great price for this level of quality!  Sizes 4-13 will be available.

Vault By Vans x Union – Polka Dot OG Era LX & OG Classic Slip-On LX (12.7.18)

IMG_8842_d09bb857-f672-4d64-939a-4cefbf864f58_1024x1024

Vans has teamed up with Union Los Angeles, to release the Polka Dot pack.  Available in a Burnt Sienna & Atlantic Deep colorway, the pack consists of two OG Era LX’s and two OG Classic Slip-On LX’s.  We first got a preview of this design at ComplexCON, where Union released a navy and white exclusive.  Pairs are currently up on their site, for $90 a piece.

The following excerpt is from Union:

“This seasons offering of the Union Van’s colab we wanted to pay homage to the traditional check pattern but with a twist. We decided to reimagine the check pattern but instead of squares do circles…uh, uh….get it??? The problem with squares vs. circles is that circles leave negative space so we had to find a third color. That’s when we decided to add another layer and do 3 colors ways; Red, Black and Green (if you think about it, you’ll know what I mean). But in true Union fashion we didn’t use the atypical RBG and instead offered some reimagined colorways. The other difficult thing about circles is everyone things is polka dots…so in the end we just decided to go with the flow and call them dots. So with no further adieu we present to you the Union RBG Dot collection.”

Vault By Vans x END. – Vertigo Pack (UTP P/Review & On-Feet Pics) @endclothing #ENDclothing

EndUTP4

END. is set to release their latest project with Vault By Vans, an OG Classic Slip-On LX & OG Old Skool LX, and we wanted to give you a little bit of a P/Review of what to expect.  First of all, I want to thank END for the early plug on these, and for just allowing a Vans collector like myself, to have a little bit of an edge over the steep competition out there.  With Vans’ current hype, many of you Vans vets know the struggle!  But anyways, this is another banger to come out of the UK, and it’s no surprise that there is this more refined aesthetic that we seem to get from the Vault By Vans collaborations coming out of Europe.  END took the most iconic Vans shoe, the black and white checkerboard Slip-On, and literally put a twist on it.  We’ve seen the checkerboard done in so many color combos and materials, but this is the first time we’ve actually seen it morphed and twisted in this unique pattern.  To top it off, the pattern was woven, not printed, so each pair will have it’s own unique part of the fabric, so no two pairs should look the same.  Major props for that, alone!  It’s all about the execution, and the premium features don’t stop there.  We get premium full grain leather, complete with that soft slight wrinkling in it, that lets you know it’s good.  Pigskin linings are standard on your OG Vaults now days, but it’s still nice to mention.  The inner lining of the Slip-On is all checkerboard as well, with the footbeds carrying the same Vertigo pattern, and END branding on the heel pad.  The vulc soles are a natural white color.  I can’t forget to mention the super cool checkerboard Vans flag on the sides.  The Old Skool comes with 3 pairs of laces, which I opted for the grey wool-like ones.  Each pair will come in a larger over-sized custom velveteen wrapped box, the same one used for last year’s END collab, but this one is wrapped in the Vertigo themed checkerboard print.  What a nice finishing touch, to an already amazing pack.

END evens the playing field for most of their more anticipated releases, by making you sign up for a chance to purchase, rather than crash a server, causing a lot of wasted time trying to race to the checkout.  I hope everyone who is going after these, gets them.  They’re perfectly priced at $99 USD for the Slip-On and $109 USD for the Old Skool.  Release is set for this Saturday 12/8 at 1:00 AM GMT online.

Vault By Vans – OG G.I. LX Pony Hair (Available Now @soleclassics) #soleclassics

photo-14

Thanks to some awesome photos from Sole Classics, we get a clean look at a new model from Vault By Vans.  This vintage military boot inspired model is known as the OG G.I. LX, a revised version of a boot that the Van Doren Rubber Company once produced for certain military applications.  The shoe is similar to a Mid Skool, but with a rubber half moon toe cap, and heel bumper.  These are obviously more dressed up for today’s fashion sense, with wild pony hair material covering all 3 pairs.  Available in Black, Checkerboard, and Snow Leopard, each pair sits on a black vulcanized sidewall, fitted with the rugged less-seen lug sole.  Cop them now from Sole Classics or your local Vault dealer now, for $150 respectively.

Vault by Vans x Footpatrol – Soho Pack OG Classic Slip-On LX, OG Sk8-Hi LX, and OG Old Skool LX (11.30.18)

Vans-x-Footpatrol-Pack-Blog-16

Footpatrol has always had a strong appreciation for heritage – whether it be in the form of paying homage to the area we call home or our appreciation for heritage footwear, there’s always been a story to tell. This made our partnership with Vans VAULT feel all the more natural. Vans have a long and storied history, which we were keen to tap into for our first collaboration with the heritage skate brand. For this collection we’ve taken three classic Vans VAULT silhouettes- the Classic Slip-On LX, SK8-Hi and Old Skool LX – and elevated them using premium materials, whilst highlighting original details from each model.

Each pair features a mix of premium materials such as hairy suede and 10oz drill canvas utilising classic Vans colours. The contrast in the colour palette brings a unique two-tone aesthetic to the collection, that can be found on the upper and perhaps less noticeably, on the sole of the shoe. Other design details include a smooth vulcanised toe-cap across all three models, embossed kerb stone details on the medial side (a nod to the kerb stone markings found in Soho) and Footpatrol branding on the lateral midsole panel, along with co-branded repeat graphic laces. Further subtle details can be found throughout all three models such as the two-toned elastic gore panels on the Classic Slip-On LX and the stitching on the SK8-Hi lace-stay. Soho is an area full of details that can be easily missed in the rush of one’s daily routine, therefore including hidden details in this collaboration was another perfect way to honour the area and utilise the Vans VAULT silhouettes.

To celebrate our Vans VAULT collaboration, we’ve curated a unique photography exhibition that explores the history and rich heritage of the ever-changing face of Soho. Soho is our home, and influences everything we do (directly or not), so we felt celebrating the area and it’s people was incredibly important. Entitled ‘Soho Since Forever’ the exhibition features works from Alex Husley, Tori Fenrec & Ollie Grove and focusses on the people, surroundings and everyday aesthetic that make Soho so important to so many people.

The ‘Soho Since Forever’ exhibition will be located at 59 Greek Street, London, W1D 3DZ and will be open to the public from Friday 30th November. The exclusive footwear collection is available exclusively online at Footpatrol.com and in our Paris and London locations respectively, from 30.11.18.

A lifestyle take on the half-pipe classic, a custom grey VANS ‘Off the Wall’ patch dresses the heel, with a co-branded checkerboard to the in-sole.
