Vans Syndicate 024.149 – “Rapidweld Pack” Sk8-Hi Pro “S” & Old Skool Pro “S” (Coming Soon!) @silostore

024.149-rapidweld_preview-over

Our next Vans Syndicate release is right around the corner, and once again the “S” is introducing a new shoe and technology for us all.  We first seen the RAPIDWELD technology on the LXVI series, and then on the Rowley Pro Lite.  Now it is being introduced on a few classic silhouettes, the Sk8-Hi Pro, and the Old Skool Pro.  These might take some getting used to, especially for us traditionalists, but who knows!  These might be the best thing since sliced bread!  I’m willing to give these a shot, especially since they come in black.  The subtle hits of reflective 3M material, crystal clear waffle soles, and the Luxliner are a great combination.  Check out the pics from Silo’s webshop, after the jump, and them, along with your local “S” dealer should be receiving these soon.

Vans Syndicate x DEFCON – Sk8-Hi Notchback Pro “S” (Video Review by @samcolt12)

Vans Syndicate 024.152 x Defcon – Sk8-Hi Notchback Pro “S” & Old Skool Pro “S” (Dropping Now!)

DEFCON_024.152

The highly anticipated, wait let me rephrase that, the most unforeseen cluster f*ck of a Syndicate release in years has started to drop upon us!  That’s right, the collaboration, but not really a collaboration because it’s all in-house, with the recently exposed DEFCON group, has been popping up all over the world at Vans Syndicate accounts.  The Sk8-Hi Notchback Pro “S” is selling out faster than the Old Skool Pro “S”, but both are disappearing faster than free beer!  I typically give the heads up when a release is available online, but as soon as these releases pop up, they’re pretty much gone in an hour or so.  I’d rather let the loyalists to each shop get theirs first, or those who are doing their homework!  If you’ve stumbled upon us through a web search, and you’re unfamiliar with how to get a pair of these, then you first have to know a few things.  These awesome Vans shoes were created under Vans’ core skate shop exclusive division, known as Vans Syndicate.  They’re only available from local community skate shops.  You won’t find Syndicates at a mall, or local sneaker boutique.  Click here for a list of Syndicate dealers near you.  Next, you need to know that these were produced in very limited numbers, and when word gets out about limited availability, then the sneaker resellers will come out in droves to try and head you off at the pass, so they can make money off of the high demand.  Sneakers are a commodity now days, and are bought and sold through various sneaker exchanges these days, the most popular being eBay.  Right now, these seem to be hitting the $160 mark.  Retail is $80.  $160 is high for a pair of Vans, yes, but low compared to your typical Nike Basketball shoe, or Jordan retro, and you can’t put a price on this type of authenticity and coolness.  Plus, you better believe that a ton of soldiers, gun nuts, preppers, and military enthusiasts are going to be after these as well.  DEFCON always brings the heat to the table, and you’d better not sleep, otherwise you’ll be paying sucker reseller prices.  Anyways.  Good luck hunting down pairs, as more shops will be getting these throughout this week and next.  Call around.  Put in that work!  Make some connections.  Be nice, and courteous, and that shop that typically doesn’t do phone orders, just might be willing to help out a nice person!

Thanks to Brant @Silostore for the pics!

Vans Syndicate – A Look Back At Prior DEFCON Models Over The Years

013 - TNT II Mid Cup S

With the news of another DEFCON shoe release from Vans Syndicate’s “secret-ops” design firm within a design firm, I guess it’s time to drop a little bit of knowledge on all of you.  Most of you may have seen the DEFCON name mentioned here or there, and perhaps on our Instagram feed photos, but most know nothing about them, and what they do, yet you may all own a pair of shoes that they are responsible for designing.  Most of the military themed Syndicate shoes came from them, with the exception of the Carhartt Old Skool, which is of course not a US Military camo pattern anyways.  Not to say, that all they do are camo prints, because they’re the ones who created one of my favorite Vans Syndicate releases of all time, the Warrior Mtn. Edition Mid “S”. If you were able to snag the recent copy of These Days, then there’s a nice article in there about DEFCON, and their history with Syndicate.  I’ve included it after the jump!

Vans Syndicate x DEFCON – Sk8-Hi Notchback “S” & Old Skool “S” (First Look!)

defcon-x-vans-syndicate-digital-camo-pack-1

Words via Vans Syndicate:

DEFCON : VANS SYNDICATE

DEFCON members stay under the radar and invest energies into the visual construction of their heartfelt passions. A multi-faceted approach to marketing, design, and photography focuses on shaping brand identities that respond to the fast-paced evolution of online marketing in the digital age and a glutted marketplace.  DEFCON collaborators like to take their time, think before they speak, and choose authenticity over corruption.

On October 1st, DEFCON comes up for air to corroborate their long-standing partnership with the Vans Syndicate group. Both models were inspired by Navel Special Warfare AOR1 and AOR2 camo and are a testimony to the long lasting relationship between DEFCON and members of the Special Forces community.

AOR1 and AOR2 camo were developed by Seal Team 6/Devgru during the early years of the war on terror.  The actual material contains some highly classified infra red reflective weaving compnents which make it “night vision goggles stealthy”.  AOR1 being the dessert option, while AOR2 is the woodland counterpart.  The camo was initially issued to Navel Special Warefare tier one unit, Devgru, and was first revealed to the mainstream public by the Bin Laden raid blockbuster, Zero Dark Thirty.  Today it is fielded by all Seal Teams.

The Vans Syndicate DEFCON models are a non classified / non ITAR, visually similar versions of the AOR1 and AOR2 camo.  The  Sk8-Hi Notchback “S” is reinforce in the front, protected by a camel colored fire-proof Warrior Suede®,  gusseted  tongue and printed digital desert camo on a ripstop quarter panel, and add intricate detail to tongue, inside collar, and side stripe. Second, an Old Skool “S” made privy to similar treatment with black Warrior Suede®, and printed digital woodland camo on ballistic mesh, quarter panel, and tongue.  Both shoes feature a moisture wicking Dri-Lex™ lining.”

No new info as of yet, but this is going to be an epic release from DEFCON, and I think it’s kind of cool that they’ve always operated as this covert, secret-ops team, with a military-inspired theme throughout the years.  I mean, even though we didn’t know who was behind all of these awesome military Vans shoes, we knew they were dope.  They had a back story, and were genuine to the core.  I love it!

Vans Syndicate – Interview with Ice-T (by Jeff Potocar @jeffkutter)

tumblr_inline_mszbn0eNyM1qhxpke

Jeff Potocar, of Syndicate and Supreme LA sat down with Ice-T awhile back, and had an in depth interview on Ice’s background.  They discuss a number of things, like why he called their circle a “Syndicate”, how he got started in his music career, the notoriety over Body Count’s “Cop Killer” song, and also how Ice is a big time online gamer.  If you watch Ice Loves Coco, then you’d already know that.  Huh?  What?  I mean…that’s news to me!  It’s an interesting read, and I figured you all would get a kick out of his humor, and even more importantly, admire his realness.  It’s something that’s becoming harder and harder to find these days.

Head on over to the Vans Syndicate page to read the entire interview!

Vans Syndicate 023.141 – Ice-T “Rhyme Syndicate” Sk8-Hi OG “S” (Detailed Pics!)

9647528342_735b0e1cd6_c

Vans has started shipping out the Ice-T pack to your local Vans Syndicate accounts, and we just wanted to show you a little preview of what to expect (thanks to OTWS member RuDe-oNe).  Other than the details that have been discussed before, we now get a better look at the accessory revolver keychain, the plastic “body bag” for the shoes, as well as the detailed artwork for the insoles and box, and rejoice!  Drawer boxes are back!  But so are the higher price tags that accomodate all of that ($120 for the Sk8-Hi), but it’s well worth it in my opinion.  Then again, I’m from Southern California, and spent the formidable part of my childhood years (without my Mother’s knowledge) listening to Ice-T, so this release is a must have for me.  I hope everyone who wants these will get them!  Until then, enjoy some pics!

Vans Syndicate 023.141 x Ice-T – Rhyme Syndicate Pack (Sk8-Hi OG “S”, Chukka Decon “S”, and Apparel) (Coming Soon!)

ice-t-vans-syndicate-capsule-collection-preview

Words via Vans Syndicate Briefing:

“Vans Syndicate proudly presents the one and only true O.G. godfather of West Coast gangster rap, former Crenshaw gangster pimp turned social commentator, Grammy Award winning mid-eighties founder of early hip-hop collective Rhyme Syndicate, the ever controversial and never complacent, acclaimed actor and respected metal head, Tracy Marrow, otherwise known as Ice-T.  Ice put his stamp on this Syndicate project with an O.G. theme in two directions as Ice-T described them: “One’s more gangster.  One’s more pimp.”

The “more gangster” model is Ice’s Sk8-Hi OG “S” in traditional black suede and white canvas with Slauson Swap Meet -style embroidered fixings (Body Count, OG, Rhyme Syndicate and Ice-T).  Pigskin linings and sockliners stamped with Ice’s lyrics in gold foil throughout.

For Ice’s “more pimp” model, he chose a Chukka Decon “S”,  featuring an added heel pull with “OG” embroidery on an otherwise deconstructed upper with elegantly perforated quarter panels, the Chukka Decon “S” is composed of high quality nubuck and tonal labeling and also featuring pigskin linings and sockliners stamped with Ice’s lyrics in gold foil throughout.

Vans Syndicate 023.147 – Wade Speyer Pack (Available @silostore)

VANS-SYNDICATE-SPEYER_fullsize

The latest Vans Syndicate release is starting to hit retailers, and it’s shaping up to be a great release.  Wade Speyer has a loyal following, evident when we started posting up previews of this pack on our Instagram feed and getting a pretty positive response.  Syndicate stays true to the core skate community, whether it’s from the new skool or the old skool, and by honoring Wade with his very own release, it just helps solidify and acknowledge his role in skateboarding history.  We’ve already gone over the details in a previous post, but I just wanted you to know that Brant has posted these up on the Silo webshop.  Cop now!
