Vans x Supreme – MC “Mike Carroll signature” Nubuck (Review!)

It has been a long damn time since I’ve given a Vans sneaker review.  I wish I had a great excuse, but I don’t.  Perhaps it’s been the lack of new pickups lately.  Perhaps it’s because there hasn’t been a release in awhile, worthy of one.  Who knows?  Well I’m proud to announce that all of my hard earned money, was spent on all four colorways of the latest Supreme x Vans drop!  What?  Is that a surprise?  It’s Supreme…they don’t need to hook anybody up with stuff.  I mean, they hook up friends, but let’s just say that that’s a pretty small circle that many would give their left nut to be in.  Me on the other hand, I just love Vans, and I love OTWS.  I don’t necessarily love you guys, but I do like you guys, and that’s why I spend time keeping you all informed about all things Vans!  You stay interested in Vans, and I’ll stay interested in providing info for you all.  Deal?  Deal.

Anyways, here’s the latest Supreme collaboration with Vans.  This release blindsided everybody in our Vans community, because we were expecting a few other releases that matched the apparel from this season.  The majority of us were stoked to see that Supreme had designed another set of Mike Carroll’s, this time using suede nubuck as the material of choice, and offering them up in some more traditional Supreme colorways: Black, White, Red, and Blue.  They’re perfect…well except for one major gripe from me.  The ankle collar padding!  What’s with the cardboard-like stiffness huh?  Is this going to be the new standard?  It’s the same padding that is being used on the 20th Anniversary Half Cabs in case you need a comparison.  It feels sort of like there’s some type of memory foam in there, but I’m still skeptical that there’s any technological benefit to it, and that it’s rather just a cheaper production method.  I would like an explanation please!  That’s my only real issue with the shoe.  Other than that, the shoe is great.  Even the softness of the colors are fine with me.  The press pics from Supreme shown these as being a deep red, and blue, but my detailed high-res pics will let you be the judge of that.

I want to thank you for taking the time to read my review, and if you can, please follow us on twitter @offthewallsite, and like our facebook page, which can be found if you scroll down along the right column of this page.  Hope you enjoy what we’re doing over here!

Vans x Supreme – Authentic “Campbell’s Soupremes” (coming next?!)

Found this pic on Instagram.  Looks like the unofficial ambassador of Supreme has his pair already!  SWAGGGG.

Vans x Supreme x Comme des Garçons SHIRT – Authentic & Sk8-Hi (June 2012)

It’s funny, because we thought we had the entire Spring line-up figured out, as far as the Vans x Supreme collabs went.  I mean, the accompanying apparel has already been releasing, so it seemed like a no-brainer that the shoes were on their way, but it just goes to show that we don’t know anything about what’s coming out next!  Well, we had sort of a hint over the weekend regarding a Supreme x CDG Vans release, but it was just a picture out of a magazine, posted up by OTWS member wolfstrice09.  The official news came early this morning, by Supreme newsletter, that an entire capsule collection will be dropping, complete with two new Vans models.

The Authentic, and the Sk8-Hi were chosen, and both feature the same pinstripe material found on the button-up shirt, and camp caps.  The Sk8-Hi features black suede, in the classic colorblocking, with a black wave stripe, and the Authentic features silver lace eyelets, and a white collar lining.  Other than that, these are one of those simpler releases, that may not look like your typical Supreme collab, but the details and matching material is what these are all about.

The Vans won’t release until mid-June, however the rest of the entire collection releases this Friday, March 16th, at all retail locations throughout the world, as well as online in the US.

Highsnobiety’s Timeline of Vans x Supreme collaborations (Retrospective)

With today’s release of the Supreme MC “Mike Carroll” Vans shoe, Highsnobiety decided to put together an article showcasing all of the shoe collaborations that Supreme has done with Vans over the years.  Their relationship dates back to 1996, when Supreme had just shown up on the scene, and some of those early releases are holy grails for some today.  A few members on our site even hold a few of those prized gems!  All of these shoes can be found on the Supreme site, under the Random section, but Highsnobiety has taken a few nice screenshots for you as well.  Also, I’d like to point out that Supreme didn’t list every single colorway for all of their releases.  Can you tell us which ones are missing?

Vans x Supreme – MC “Mike Carroll” (Spring 2012)

This one flew under the radar big time!  We were expecting to see the Russian camo Half Cabs, and Old Skools to drop first, but low and behold, Supreme is blessing us Vans heads with yet another Mike Carroll shoe, and this time they went with more modern colors, which I must say are looking fresh as hell.  Available in Red, Blue, White, and Black, in a suede nubuck upper, while sitting on a standard white vulcanized waffle sole.  The same signature reflective tongue is back, letting everyone know whose collaboration this is.  If there is a God, please make all the Supreme hype kids stay home on this one, and let us get all four colorways!  I’m speaking for everyone on here!

These will be available in NY, LA, London, and online on March 8th, and in Japan on March 10th.

Vans x Supreme – Old Skool “Giraffe” Blue (S/S 2012)

The third colorway we get to preview for you, is the blue pair.  A little more wild than the rest, and definitely sure to turn heads.  We believe there’s a fourth, grey/black colorway as well, but we have yet to find pics of those yet, but we have seen them on the Half Cab, so stay tuned, and hopefully Supreme drops some official info and pics soon.  We’re all getting anxious for the Spring/Summer 2012 drop!

Vans x Supreme – Old Skool “Giraffe” Olive (S/S 2012)

The next colorway we get to look at, is the Olive pair.  Another solid color combo, and the red lining gives it a nice Supreme touch.  As official pics release, we will be sure to post them up ASAP.  Thanks for looking!

Vans x Supreme – Old Skool “Giraffe” Khaki (S/S 2012)

I guess you can say that the cat’s out of the bag on these.  The “giraffe” pack is a wild and loud design, and we can now see that there’s going to be an Old Skool accompanying the Half Cab that’s been garnering much attention, and building buzz lately.  Some hate them, but most love them, and one things for sure, and that’s that everyone will know that they are a Supreme release for sure!  Don’t go anywhere, I still have two other colorways for you all!  These should be out within a few weeks, once the new Spring/Summer collection drops, and don’t forget to get the matching camp cap that goes with these!

Half-Cab 20th Anniversary – Picked up by @ILNOJ

OTWS doesn’t mess around when it comes to our Vans!  Member Jonli, aka lookdown, was generous to snap a few pics of the Half Cab 20th Anniversary edition for us, that he copped for another OTWS member overseas.  1 of 5 pairs here at Supreme Los Angeles, and this is #3!  What a stand-up dude!  You can also catch an old friend, Carlos, aka Solexlife in his second pic, hehe.  You can say hi to him down at Hall Of Fame.
