Vans – iPhone 4 Case “2.0” (Review)

So by now most of you who are our normal followers have had a chance to purchase your Vans iPhone 4 cases that have recently been restocked.  This is one of the best phone cases out there at the moment, and is definitely the most unique.  Some of you may have noticed the slight change to the new version of the case, most notably the camera ring is now black to absorb any reflection from the camera flash.  This should appease all of you iPhotographers.  The other subtle, but noticeable difference is the color of the gum colored waffle sole.  It appears to be slightly darker, but only marginal.  It’s still the same ol’ case as the original!  Oh, and I also forgot to mention that they relabeled the packaging as well to say iPhone 4 and 4S.  Here’s a shot of the new case for all of you still on the fence.

These keep restocking on the Vans store online, but I expect them to not last long!  Click here and on my pic after the jump to see if they still have any.

Vans Syndicate – AVE/Dill Pack (Review by @DJGuamstyles)

This has been a fun week trying to hunt down pairs of the latest Syndicate release for fellow OTWS members.  The 3-shoe pack, designed by pro skaters Anthony Van Engelen, and Jason Dill, consists of a shoe designed by each of them, as well as a third shoe, representing a combination of both of their creations.

AVE designed the Old Skool 92 Pro “S”, utilizing a classy dress shoe leather, and a cheetah faux fur fabric.  Don’t be fooled into thinking the leather is cheap, like most of you have thought.  My detailed pics will show the quality of the leather, as we’d all expect from Syndicate.  The inner lining consists of soft supple leather, and a detail not previously noticed is the collar and tongue binding wrapped in suede!  Thin waxed laces finish these off nicely, along with a metal top lace eyelet.

Dill’s creation is the Authentic Pro “S” wrapped in a silver textured snakeskin print throughout the entire shoe.  Metal lace eyelets finish them off nicely.  The footbed has Dill on it, as well as the scorpion20/21 logo that this set revolves around.  More on that later.

The final shoe features a mixture of both styles.  The AV Sk8-Low “S” was chosen to rep both of these awesome dudes.  Wrapped entirely in a premium dress shoe leather, with the popular cheetah faux fur material on the inner lining.  The backside of the tongue has the silver snakeskin material that was featured on the Authentic, but sadly the snakeskin material on the removable sock liner, didn’t make it to the production version, instead it features both AVE and Dill on it, as well as their scorpion 20/21 logo, which represents them both being scorpio’s, having been born on November 20th, and 21st respectively.  By the way, this series utilizes the gel padded sock liners, in case you were wondering!  Also one last feature I failed to mention, featured on all 3 models, is the clear waffle soles on the bottom.  Yellowing is inevitable, and has already started to take place!  Live with it!

Hope you enjoyed this nice little feature.  We have some exciting new tees coming soon, so please support us, and buy one when they come out.  If you like what we do for you here, like dropping info on the Vans iPhone Case restocking, and the general heads up on the Twitter feeds, then show some support damnit!  Hehe, peace everyone -Guamstyles

Vans Syndicate – AVE/Dill Pack Video Review (by @SamColt12)

OTWS member samcolt12 is the king of sneaker video reviews, and he doesn’t miss one Vans Syndicate release!  We all depend on Tom to bring us a firsthand look at almost every new release that comes out, and there’s nobody out there who operates with the consistency that he does.  Check out his video review of the Syndicate AVE/Dill “Cheetah” Old Skool“.  Thanks for doing these for us, good sir!

Vans x Supreme MC “Mike Carroll” Comparison (by @jacobmontana)

OTWS member jacobmontana is the unofficial spokesperson for the Mike Carroll signature Vans shoe.  He has somehow amassed every single original colorway of the OG, “made in the USA” models, and when Supreme released the MC last year, you can imagine the backflipping and fist pumps that were going on in front of his computer when he got the news.  Well, fast forward to two weeks ago, and another surprise MC release was dropped on us, this time in a few OG colorways, as well as some more current, “Supreme-esque” colors.  Perhaps that’s why this release sold much more quickly.  Who am I kidding?  It’s because of the Supremies!  (copyrighted…jk).  Well enough of that.  Jacobmontana has taken some time out to give us a quick comparison of the OG and the Supreme version.  The first thing you may notice, is the shape.  I guess Vans didn’t have an original to work with, because the material overlap, and the stitching seem to not really match.  It’s as if it was reconstructed based off of photos or a drawing.  It’s close, but no cigar!  Of course, the vulcanized rubber is different as well, since the originals were crafted in the USA and a different rubber compound was utilized back then.  For the most part, that’s it.  I’m still grateful that we get to even own a “retro” if you will, of one of the most sought after OG Vans, and it’s all thanks to Supreme and Vans.  Big thanks to jacobmontana for sharing some pics for all of us!

Vans x Supreme – MC “Mike Carroll signature” Nubuck (Review!)

It has been a long damn time since I’ve given a Vans sneaker review.  I wish I had a great excuse, but I don’t.  Perhaps it’s been the lack of new pickups lately.  Perhaps it’s because there hasn’t been a release in awhile, worthy of one.  Who knows?  Well I’m proud to announce that all of my hard earned money, was spent on all four colorways of the latest Supreme x Vans drop!  What?  Is that a surprise?  It’s Supreme…they don’t need to hook anybody up with stuff.  I mean, they hook up friends, but let’s just say that that’s a pretty small circle that many would give their left nut to be in.  Me on the other hand, I just love Vans, and I love OTWS.  I don’t necessarily love you guys, but I do like you guys, and that’s why I spend time keeping you all informed about all things Vans!  You stay interested in Vans, and I’ll stay interested in providing info for you all.  Deal?  Deal.

Anyways, here’s the latest Supreme collaboration with Vans.  This release blindsided everybody in our Vans community, because we were expecting a few other releases that matched the apparel from this season.  The majority of us were stoked to see that Supreme had designed another set of Mike Carroll’s, this time using suede nubuck as the material of choice, and offering them up in some more traditional Supreme colorways: Black, White, Red, and Blue.  They’re perfect…well except for one major gripe from me.  The ankle collar padding!  What’s with the cardboard-like stiffness huh?  Is this going to be the new standard?  It’s the same padding that is being used on the 20th Anniversary Half Cabs in case you need a comparison.  It feels sort of like there’s some type of memory foam in there, but I’m still skeptical that there’s any technological benefit to it, and that it’s rather just a cheaper production method.  I would like an explanation please!  That’s my only real issue with the shoe.  Other than that, the shoe is great.  Even the softness of the colors are fine with me.  The press pics from Supreme shown these as being a deep red, and blue, but my detailed high-res pics will let you be the judge of that.

I want to thank you for taking the time to read my review, and if you can, please follow us on twitter @offthewallsite, and like our facebook page, which can be found if you scroll down along the right column of this page.  Hope you enjoy what we’re doing over here!

Vans iPhone4 Rubber Waffle Case (Now Available!)

So just about this time last year, I stumbled across this waffle grip iPhone4 case from a Vans employee who is a friend of a friend.  Knowing that I was big into Vans and that I had a forum and site dedicated to all things Vans related, we were introduced.  Immediately, the friend pulls out his phone and shows me this awesome case he had on it.  I wanted one.  I needed one!  He said that they were only for promotional use, and weren’t going to be made, so I snapped a few pics, to bring back to the guys on the forum, and to break the bad news that we will never be able to buy one, and very few of us will be able to get our hands on one.  Well, that same statement, a year later, happens to be partially true.  You see, this case has turned out to be an actual production item, but it seems that some of us can’t get our hands on them!  How can this be?!  OTWS members have been psyched on this accessory ever since we first caught wind of it, and to tell us it’s released and for sale?!  Well, word spreads fast around the internets these days, and the #1 tech blog Gizmodo happened to post up news about this awesome case, and that can be the only explanation as to why us dedicated Vans heads are having a harder time than normal, obtaining one of these.  (They even gave us credit for the info!)  I mean, we have no problem sourcing limited edition 1 of 96 pair runs of shoes, or hyped up Japanese-label  collaboration Vans Syndicates, but a measly $28 “General Release” at your local Vans store iPhone case we can’t?!  C’mon!  And resellers are selling these at $100 a pop on eBay?  C’mon!

Well, I can consider myself very lucky, because the homie Ryanskeet here on OTWS was able to source a case for me.  The details are so dope!  Check out the waffle grip, in the same gum color as most Vans shoes.  The toe bumper looks cool, as well as the red heel tab incorporated into the side of the case.  Did you even notice the foxing stripe that runs around the border of the screen?  Please don’t ask me to find you any, and please don’t ask where this one came from.  Do a little footwork and you may be rewarded, but as with any hype, you gotta move fast.  Good luck, and happy hunting!

Useful info:

Price $28

Vans online store is sold out, but some Vans stores may still have them, and others haven’t received them yet.  Some stores say they won’t get them until after Christmas, and there’s also rumors that a wide-spread release is set for February.  Hopefully that’s the case, so everyone can rock this awesome joint!  Don’t give into the hype and pay 3x retail for this, on eBay!  Be patient people.

Samcolt12 video review of the Syndicate x Greg Hunt Pack

Our fellow OTWS friend and member, Tom aka Samcolt12, has made his own mark in our sneaker culture by providing us with endless amounts of video sneaker reviews.  He’s another guy, like myself, who picks up just about every Vans Syndicate release, and I’m thankful he does, so we’re not all stuck with purely picture reviews!  Here’s his latest Vans pickups, the Syndicate x Greg Hunt series.  Enjoy!

Vans x CVLT – Bike Grips (fits motorcycles!)

Just an FYI, in case you guys were wondering.  The CVLT “Waffle Grip” bicycle grips should fit on your motorbikes!  The homie Eddie aka “Duffm4n”, sent me some shots of them on his GSXR.  Not sure if other bikes have different diameter handlebars, but if not, then you’re in luck!

Thanks Duffm4n!

Vans x Hello Kitty – Authentic “Black & White” (Review!)

The Vans x Hello Kitty collection hasn’t gone public yet, but if you followed the links I posted a few days back, you can order these now!  I ordered this particular pair for my girlfriend, and all of you will be really impressed with this collaboration effort.  All the details were gone over, which is no surprise if you are a Sanrio fan.  Most, if not all Hello Kitty collaborations are very intricately detailed.  Notice the special box for the release, as well as the wax tissue paper, and hangtag.  The inner soles have the branding as well.  This particular colorway, the black with white HK faces, is pretty dope, and if I was a chick, I’d be rocking these all day long, but as a guy, I will be buying the infant versions, because you know…that’s still okay :).

Vault x Ludwig Van “Mary Jane – sz12” (Wolfstrice09’s new pickup!)

So the other day, Thane (Wolfstrice09) hit me up, asking me if he could have something delivered to me, to send to him, due to shipping prices by the seller of a particular item.  I had no idea what it was yet.  Naturally, I was suspicious, and raised a few concerns, and eventually he gave in, and let me know what he had coming.  He got the ONLY pair of size 12, Mary Jane Era’s from the Ludwig Van collection!!!  May I remind you, there are only 5 pairs of this shoe in existence, and only one of each size, so this is a definite one of a kind, collector’s piece.  Thane had spoke with Mike Dytri, from Ludwig Van, about purchasing these, and supposedly made him an offer, and they agreed on a deal.  Smash cut to today, and Mike was knocking on my door, personally delivering these gems!  I feel like such an ass for not introducing myself at the Conveyor party, so he could be like “oh, it’s you!”  but I’m not one of those guys, to just walk up to people I don’t know, especially when all their friends are there celebrating the release with him!  I can’t believe nobody bought these from the Ludwig Van webstore, either!  The $420 price tag was a decent deal, for arguably, the best pattern in the entire series!  I’m just glad I got to physically touch a pair of them, let alone my size, as well!  Don’t worry Wolfs, I didn’t try them on!  Anyways, nobody else from OTWS deserves these more than Thane, because he has every pattern offered in a sz12 of the Ludwig Van project, and this is just the icing on the cake.  Congrats homie!
