My friend, and cousin of one of my good friends that I grew up with, runs a site called FOOD WITH SOLE. You may also know of him by that same name. He’s a real cool homie, and I like what he’s got going on over on his site. He’s figured out a way to incorporate two things we can’t deny we all love, and that’s the love of sneakers, and the love of food. When everyone runs a copy and paste blog these days, including us to some extent, it’s nice to see some unique, original ideas still out there. When he came to me with the idea of being a part of his “My Top 5” ongoing features, I was honored and was willing to jump on board right away. Honestly, I had already picked my top 5 releases for 2011 on our own OTWS forum, so the hard part was out of the way…or so I thought. I began understanding that I was going to be repping us here at OTWS, and I knew that some of my personal choices weren’t the same as the rest of the members. I made a few adjustments, and came up with a more well rounded selection, that represented our general consensus. I’m satisfied with my choices, and I hope you’ll all agree, or at least understand my picks. Do me a favor, and go check out my article, and after that, leave a comment to discuss your opinions, or to share your top 5. Be sure to add foodwithsole.com to your favorites, and add him on twitter. I know he’s got a lot more in store for all of us!
We’ve been waiting for a minute now, on the next collector feature from OTW, but wait no longer! Next up is Ryan, aka Ryanskeet. I’ve met this homie a few times, to buy, sell, and trade kicks, and he’s got an interesting collection, as well as some very artistic photos! I want his humongous Vans 106 Customs store display shoe! Check out his feature over on the OTW site now.
In part two of The Collaboratory with Tommy Guerrero, he discusses the idea behind his shoe for Vans Syndicate. He puts it right out there, that if he wanted to create a shoe that would sell, he would’ve went with a white sole. This lets you know where his mind is at, and while everyone else is going right, he’s already down the left path! Way ahead of the sheep, and far away as possible! Not really, but check out part 2 of the OffTheWall.TV series on him
So I guess it’s my turn to be the OTW featured collector! I want to thank Chris D. for being a strong supporter of OTWS, and our main link to Vans directly. It definitely helps get our views, and ideas across. I swear they listen to us over here at OTWS! I had ranted one day about how if OTW wants to become a major player, they better start listening to the demographic they want to cater to, and sure enough, there’s been some major hits coming out lately, from their division, but anyways, back to me (which I am sort of uncomfortable with, hehe). I just wanted to give a small glimpse of what my collection is like. Honestly, I took forever taking pics, and it was because my garage belongs on hoarders. I didn’t want to take any “collection” pics with a bunch of other random crap in it, but I think I did alright in the end. Sorry for lagging, Chris! Peep the OTW microsite for my interview, and a few pics!
The next collector feature is up on OTW, and this time we get to learn a little bit about our good friend Tom, aka Samcolt12. We all know him from his Youtube video reviews, and his endless amount of cops, and we get to take a glimpse into his collection…wait, I mean just his VANS collection. That’s right! Tom has a library of Vans, most worn, and others waiting to be worn, that will make any Vans enthusiast drool. Anyways, check out his feature over on the OTW microsite!
The “This is the Collector” series from Vans OTW is turning out to be a pretty fun project that our friend Chris D. from Vans has put together. We can’t thank him enough for helping us Vans fanatics get a little recognition! This is what helps inspire new people to join our community, and to expand our network. Every story is different, and we come from all over, so I hope you enjoy each collector’s feature. I know I do. With that said, the next collector to be featured by OTW, is Charles H., aka Chuck_Vans_995. A radio personality, and a Vans store employee, straight outta San Antonio, Texas, this guy has a serious collection, with an entire room dedicated to it. Check out Charles’ story here.
The second Vans collector featured, for the “This is the Collector” series from OTW, is Thane, aka Wolfstrice09, from Gladstone, Oregon. A Vans store manager, and sneaker collector already, who found the darkside like most of us, in the world of rare, and limited Vans sneakers. His story is unique, and you can check it out on the OTW microsite!
As OTW continues to build their identity and core base, they are starting to see who is interested in their unfamiliar, yet dope creations. It’s hard to push for change, but how else do you grow? One element of change for them, is they are embracing the sneaker collecting culture, FINALLY! OTW is going to be doing some pieces on different Vans collectors out there, inspired by OTW advocate Dimitri Coste, arguably the largest Vans curator/fanatic out there. You may recall his feature in the “A History of Vans” book, that released last year. He’s got enough Vans to create a museum. New and old, and definitely rare stuff. To kick things off, OTWS member Crisuno was chosen, and rightfully so, with his vast knowledge, and time he’s put into collecting kicks. 16 years to be exact. He’s part of an OG era of collectors, who hasn’t been jaded by the scene, he’s just adapted to it, by thinning out his collection, to just include the best of his best. I don’t want to spoil the read, so get on over to the OTW site for the feature.
