Vans x Bones Brigade – Sk8-Hi REISSUE Pack (Holiday 2012)

Here’s a more detailed look at the upcoming Bones Brigade Sk8-Hi REISSUE pack.  We’ve already seen the flyer for these, so we know that they’ll be offered in two of Vans’ iconic colorways, the black and white checkers, and the navy/light blue colorway.  Both pairs have the O.G. REISSUE design, throwing it back to the early days of skating, when these were the standard pairs to wear.  We now get a close up look at the embroidery on the tongue, as well as a catalog snapshot of some of the cool distinguishers of this pack.  For instance, the Bones Brigade branding is printed on the sockliner as well as the inside collar lining.  We also should be seeing a logo on the heel tab as well, although the photos seen here don’t have them.  Let’s hope that makes it to final production.  Oh, and Vans also created a special sticker hang tag for the shoe.  What do you think?  Must haves for me!  Available for purchase by clicking on the pic above!

Vans x Bones Brigade – Sk8-Hi Reissue

Wow!  Just wow!  These are going to be dope.  Some familiar classic colorways are being brought back, in the reissue version of the Sk8-Hi, to coincide with the release of the Bones Brigade documentary by Stacy Peralta.  For those of you who don’t know the difference with the “reissue” Sk8-Hi, it’s mainly lin the lace eyelet panel.  It doesn’t create an ollie-pad towards the bottom where the panel meets the foxing, so it’s basically the same width all the way down the upper.  Available in the OG Blue, and the Black/White Checkerboard colorways.  Each pair features the “Bones Brigade” logo embroidered on the heel panel.  Both please!!!  These should be out mid October everywhere, and expect some apparel pieces as well!

Highsnobiety interview with Steve Van Doren

Highsnobiety sat down with Mr. Steve Van Doren, the face of Vans today, while at the Vans Downtown Showdown Amsterdam event.  They discuss briefly, the history of Vans, his involvement since day one, working with his dad, and he also shares a similar wish as I, to have Vans create special requests, and custom “bring your own fabric” one-offs here in the states, like they did up until 94.  Imagine that?!  People would go nuts.  There’s a market for it now, with all the iD programs, and since it used to all be done here in Santa Ana, CA, we know it can be done.  It must have something to do with the environment or something!  Vans, look into that!!!  Anyways, check out the interview over on Highsnobiety!

Vans officially welcomes Jason Dill

A few words from Vans:

“You’ve seen him in the van and out on missions with us for a bit now, but Steve Van Doren and the entire Vans team would like to take this opportunity to officially welcome back the incomparable Jason Dill to the Vans Pro Skate family [we were his first shoe sponsor back when he was like, eleven]. To herald this magnificent news, we’re christening our formal alliance with a full week of in-depth and exclusive Dill content on-line. Yesterday, we posted every single one of Jason Dill’s skate interviews over the past two decades, and today we present Jason’s Alien Workshop ad archive, with nearly two dozen of Dill’s Alien ads spanning 14 years. Be sure to check out Jason’s Vans team page and check back often for something else new every day this week. Who knows, you might even learn something about Jason you never knew. “

Vans Presents: Bones Brigade: An Autobiography (Movie Trailer)

The highly anticipated autobiography of the Bones Brigade is coming to a theater near you hopefully, and Vans and famed documentary director, Stacy Peralta, have just dropped the video trailer for it.  After a collective effort from fans all over the world posting personal Bones Brigade photos from their personal collections on Instagram, the trailer was posted yesterday, after reaching their goal of 2,000 photos hashtagged with #bonesbrigade.  As an added bonus, you can download the most popular Bones Brigade skate video of all time… The Search For Animal Chin!  Download it here.

Foreword from Vans:

“It’s not a death metal band, an extreme diet club or historic dominoes association—the Bones Brigade was a talented gang of teenage outcasts. Unmotivated by fame or popularity, they completely dedicated their lives to a disrespected art form. For most of the 1980s, this misfit crew headed by a 1970s ex-skateboard champion blasted the industry with a mixture of art and raw talent becoming the most popular skateboarding team in history. The core unit of the Bones Brigade built an empire that covered the world. They dominated contests, made hundreds of thousands of dollars, created the modern skateboard video, reinvented endemic advertising, pushed skate progression into a new era, and set the stage for a totally new form of skating called street style. There’s nothing comparable in today’s skateboarding.”

Vans – Half Cab Pro “20th Anniversary” – Steve Caballero (August 2012)

August is now in full swing, and that means it’s time for a new Half Cab, as part of the 20th Anniversary celebration of the iconic shoe.  This month we get the honor of receiving the model designed by Steve Caballero, himself.  If you didn’t know, he’s a sick illustrator, and you can see lots of his work on his Instagram (@steviecab).  For his design, he went with a deep chili pepper red color, and created a dragon character that sits nicely on the tongue and side label.  One of the sickest artist series so far, for the Half Cab 20th Anniversary collection!  Available for purchase from Vans by clicking on the picture above.  These also qualify for free FedExground shipping!!!  Support us by purchasing these through our site!

Offthewall.TV: Since 66 Brand Video (Video)

“It was never about waving around the brand like a flag. It was always about the people.” -Paul Van Doren

Words by Eliot Rausch for Offthewall.TV:

“Vans came to me with a proposal to create a short film that embodied the essence of their brand. The creative exploration and freedom they allowed me was unlike anything I had ever experienced. Pure trust, pure faith, in my abilities as a story-teller / director and as a friend. In creating this piece, it was profound to realize the success of their company, at its core, is based on a similar model they share with everyone they work with. To feel part of a brand, part of a family, part of an authentic creative expression, truly moved me to my core.”
