We’re going to start announcing artists for our Waffurusōru Vans art exhibition on 6.6.13 at Yojie Japanese Fondue in Diamond Bar, to show appreciation for their contribution. We’re proud to announce Ashley Seo will be joining our exhibition!

“The 2013 Vans Pool Party went down this past weekend at the Vans Skatepark with the Master division showing what years of experience brings to the table. Chris Miller took home first place and $15,000, Steve Caballero was in second, and Christian Hosoi was in third. Get a look at the mastery in this edit from Transworld Skateboarding and go here for a photo recap from the Pro division.”
Offthewallsite and Yojie Japanese Fondue Diamond Bar are proud to present: Waffurusōru ワッフルソール – “An artistic exhibition of Vans sneaker culture”. Waffurusōru is the Japanese word for wafflesole, giving a nod to both Yojie, and our favorite iconic brand of sneaker. We will be collaborating and educating, through artwork, rare Vans items, as well as some of our favorite Vans sneakers.
We’ve also reached out to some of our closest friends in our beloved industry, to support us in our first major collective. Some with product, some with their valuable time, and some with helping us find artists to fill the walls at Yojie Japanese Fondue in Diamond Bar. We will announce names of our supporters as we get things etched in stone, and we know what each can help us with. We’re greatly appreciative of this effort, and we will bring the best art show to the San Gabriel Valley/Orange County, that we know how to. The response so far has been amazing, and all I can say is stay tuned for some epic shit. (Fun Fact: The start date is 6/6, which as most of you know, is iconic with Vans. We picked that date before we even made that connection. Mindblown, lol.)
The exhibition will run for 1 month from June 6th 2013, thru June 27th, 2013.
If you’re an artist looking to contribute to our show, please click on the banner on the right side of our website, to see our artist call for the show.
If you’re a supporter of OTWS and want to contribute a cool piece of Vans history, or a rare artifact, then email both ryanskeet@gmail.com, and I at djguamstyles@offthewallsite.net.

“On Saturday, April 13, Alien Workshop co-founder and art director, Mike Hill, held his first-ever solo art show at Chicago’s Peanut Gallery. The event was proudly presented by Vans Syndicate as a celebration of sorts for their collaboration with Hill on a couple of amazing, from-the-ground-up skate shoes. We went to see twenty-plus years’ worth of Alien Workshop art, including OG puppets and dioramas from the earliest days of AWS everslicks, and a very complete collection of Hill’s work up to this day.”
…also peep a very rare photographic occurence of OTWS’s very own Brant Van Boening with Nate Lott from Vans Syndicate!

Success! That was the general feeling going around amongst the Blends family. The excitement was in the air, and it was infectious. Preparing two events, to coincide the same day, is no simple feat, and my hat goes off to them for a terrific job. Read on, after the jump, to see how my journey went, following this SoCal release throughout the day in the OC, all the way into the night, ending in San Diego. Read More

“Vans Syndicate, with a little help from Incase and Oakley, took a trip overseas to London’s Ivory & Black Soho to present what looks like one heck of an exhibit entitled “What Are You Doing After This?” The group exhibit features a large lineup with numerous familiar names including Curtis Buchanan, Jason Dill, Leo Fitzpatrick, Fuck This Life, Jerry Hsu, Atiba Jefferson, Todd Jordan, Kevin “Spanky” Long, Nina Long, Neckface, Alex Olson, Jeff Potocar, Tino Razo, Lele Saveri, Chris Shonting, Meryl Smith and William Strobeck. The exhibit featured a range of photographs, sculptures and other artistic disciplines, but now that the show has just ended its run, our gallery is the best way to check out what went on.”

“Vans Europe showcased a collection of vintage footwear and apparel representing the brand’s 47 year history this week as part of the House of Vans Berlin takeover during fashion week. The exhibition was a compilation of the personal collections of the Skateboard Museum’s Jürgen Blümlein, The Other Side of the Pillow’s Henry Davies and longtime Vans collaborator/artist Dimitri Coste.
Over 200 pairs of original shoes dating back to 1966 were on display with an illustrated timeline of the company. Highlights included a pair of recently discovered shoes thought to date back to the first few months of production at the original Vans factory in Orange County, classic ‘80s canvas prints and a few oddities including clown shoes in Vans iconic checkerboard.”
On a side note: Perhaps if Vans were to ever put on an exhibit like this, here in the states, (preferably Southern California, where I’m from!), then hopefully they will reach out to us here at OTWS to curate our own Vans exhibition. We are fellow Vans addicts, like OTWS advocate Dimitri, and Wayne and Henry from The Other Side of the Pillow, and follow along in their same footsteps, and although our collections aren’t as vintage as theirs, we represent the next generation if you will, of Vans collectors, with many rare pairs. Just sayin’. Hit us up if we can help you, and feel free to utilize our vast collection!

Words by Pete Williams of Highsnobiety:
“Believe it or not. 2013 marks 10 years for Vans’ high-end Vault line. Offered to only a handful of retailers, the Vans Vault collection has produced countless gems over it’s decade long existance. From early Marc Jacobs collaborations to the introduction of now long-standing Vans contributor Taka Hayashi, the line is as impressive as it is deep.
While at Agenda Trade Show, we had the chance to photograph Vans’ own 10 year anniversary retrospective that includes pieces by Billykirk, The Brothers Marshall, Brooks, Filson, Pendleton, Moon Eyes, Robert Williams and more.”
