Vans x Size? – Authentic 44 DX “Needlework” (11.12.21)

640x720-16

Vans and size? have been celebrating and documenting the intricate and inimitable work that goes into craft the brand’s unique Needlework patterns. Coming together once again to bring to life an Authentic Style #44 from the Vans Anaheim Factory range, no two pairs bear the same pattern layout, such is the individualistic nature of the Needlepoint technique used to create Needlework shoes.

The Vans Needlework Anaheim Factory Collection is a retro-infused capsule of shoes that celebrates custom-made styles and DIY creativity. What’s more, the shoes also nod to the Californian Anaheim Factory, using unique stylings, OG style numbers, plus an array of other throwback features. Now, the Vans Authentic Anaheim 44 DX gets a Needlework remodelling that honours handcrafted artwork, offering loud and creative styles for your Vans collection.

Pulled from the archives, this crisp shoe has woven canvas uppers acting as a canvas for a variety of patterns on the upper. Yin and yang-inspired patterns of embroidered onto the upper, opting for soft hues of cream, and bold tones of orange and black for contrast. A classic Vans label sits on the lateral sidewall, while skate-ready vulcanised soles underfoot are divided from the top by orange piping.

Also joining the collection is a rustic looking silhouette that arrives with woven canvas on the upper coated in a tan hue with embroidered floral designs that hark back to the ‘70s. A Vans label on the lateral sidewall adds a touch of heritage, while an earthy, speckled vulcanised sole unit contrasts beneath, completing the trainer’s skate-ready aesthetic.

The Vans Authentic Anaheim 44 DX ‘Needlework’ silhouettes land on their site on Friday 12th November. They are priced at £80 and arrive in men’s and women’s sizes.

The Vans x BAPE® collection will be sold exclusively at Vans and BAPE® retail locations and at Vans.com and Bape.com. The collection will be available beginning November 1st in China, followed by November 13th for the Asia-Pacific region and will land in the select Americas retail locations and EMEA on November 29th followed by Vans.com on November 30th.

  • November 1st in China
  • November 13th in the Asia-Pacific Region
  • November 29th in EMEA and Americas, BAPE® retail and BAPE.com
  • November 30th on Vans.com

BAPE® (“A Bathing Ape”) has been bringing Japanese street style to the world since 1993. Situated in the heart of Tokyo – one of the world’s leading fashion hubs – BAPE® has remained a symbol of street fashion for more than 27 years.

Vans and BAPE® share the same roots – street culture and self-expression. In late 2020, the two brands gave streetwear fans a glimpse at what could be, with a limited-edition Vans Customs collection, sold exclusively in China. Fast forward nearly a year, and for their first global collection, it’s only fitting that they bring together their iconic identities for an apparel and footwear range that redefines classic silhouettes.

The first drop of the collection includes two of Vans’ most recognizable footwear icons – the Sk8-Hi 38 DX and the Authentic 44 DX. The Sk8-Hi 38 DX features BAPE®’s ABC camo outline, with a classic Vans black and white twist. A custom camo tongue label and statement red Waffle outsole add an elevated touch. For fans of A Bathing Ape’s iconic camo print, the Authentic 44 DX combines BAPE®’s first ever camo and Vans’ ripstop canvas for a more low-key look.

Completing the collection is a statement hoodie available in two colorways – Black and Heather Grey – featuring a mash-up of logos and camo prints.

Vans x Commissary – Era 95 DX (White/Black) (Auction For Commissary Lounge on 4.8.21) @commissarystore

IMG_5079

Commissary, a Southern California staple in the world of high end streetwear, known for introducing some of the more rare and limited luxury streetwear brands to us for over a decade, which included being one of only a very select few, to officially carry Supreme in the early days, has released a few pics of their Era 95 DX’s, in a white colorway.  As far as we know, this shoe was originally meant to just be for friends & family, just like the black pair that surfaced a few years back, which had some of us Vans collectors trying to figure out how we could get our hands on them.  Well, this time we’re in luck, as they will be offering up 50 pairs, in an online auction format, to raise money for their Commissary Lounge, a live venue space attached to their store located in Costa Mesa, CA.  This pandemic fucked with a lot of people’s livelihoods, and entertainment was one of the biggest hit industries.  Store owner, Andrew Lee, mentioned on his instagram that all proceeds from this auction will go to saving his live venue from it’s demise.  He wants to continue to put on live music shows and keep the spot alive as long as he can, so hopefully with the support of his regulars, as well as some die-hard Vans collectors, he can keep the space afloat.

The shoes feature an all-white canvas design, with Commissary logos printed throughout the uppers, as well as on the foxing scene.  The ankle collar features a printed message.  One shoe reads “You don’t have to go home”, and the other says “but you can’t stay here”, which sounds familiar to anyone who stays at the club until the lights start to come on.  The shoe is built on the Anaheim Factory DX platform, which is a fan favorite amongst us Vans snobs.

I’m hoping this goes well for him, and I’m always down to support those who have a solid foundation in the culture that we’re all a part of.  One of the OG’s, not a newcomer with no understanding or connection to the history of streetwear and those who really paved the way for others.  So help him out, and bid these things up.  I hope a bunch of old heads come out of the woodwork for these!

The auction, along with 4 t-shirt pre-orders will go live tomorrow (4/8/21) at midnight on the Commissary site.

If you’d also like to donate to their GoFundMe to keep the Commissary Lounge open, you can visit that link HERE.

Showcasing Vans’ dedication to artistic collaboration, Vans has partnered with Los Angeles-based artist Mister Cartoon and Japanese streetwear staple NEIGHBORHOOD for the latest Waffle Lovers release.

In a cross-culture collaboration, Mister Cartoon and NEIGHBORHOOD offer up an imagined Liquor Mart called “Uncle Toons Mart.” With a focus on Californian lifestyle, Vans merges this three-way partnership with a two-pack of Vans footwear inspired by each collaborator.

With his artwork largely synonymous with Los Angeles street culture, Mister Cartoon is best known for his tattoo-inspired creative style. Mister Cartoon draws inspiration from his Los Angeles roots while maintaining a globally relevant and respected presence. United by their longtime dedication to craftsmanship and attention to detail, Mister Cartoon and NEIGHBORHOOD find common ground while maintaining their respective cultural relevance.

Vans’ Uncle Toons Mart by NEIGHBORHOOD collection features an Authentic 44 DX accompanied by an Old Skool 36 DX.

The Authentic offers up a visual manifestation of “Uncle Toons Mart”, printed in Mister Cartoon’s classic tattoo-influenced style. The fine line gray and black print is bound with white sidewalls reading “Uncle Toons Mart” and “NEIGHBOORHOOD” in the unmistakable Mister Cartoon cursive typography.

The Old Skool stands on its own with all-over black upper and sidewalls. The embroidered toe caps pay homage to the collaborators, simply reading “Tokyo” and “Los Angeles” on the right and left pair, respectively. Vans’ OId Skool sidestripe draws a connection between the vamp and heel caps where the embroidery reads, “Uncle Toons Mart by NEIGHBORHOOD”. Cast against all-black suede, the purple embroidery offers a bold reminder of Mister Cartoon’s iconic cursive style. Both styles share fully printed sock liners with custom Mister Cartoon artwork.

Uniting the backstreets of Tokyo’s Ura-Harajuku district and the streets of Mister Cartoon’s Los Angeles — Uncle Toons Mart by NEIGHBORHOOD is a serendipitous melding of Tokyo street style and Los Angeles street life.

The Vans x Uncle Toons Mart by NEIGHBORHOOD collection will be available beginning on June 26, 2020. To learn more about the offering and where to purchase, please visit Vans.com.

Vans x Offspring – Herringbone Pack (Released on 7.13.19)

https-_hypebeast.com_image_2019_07_offspring-vans-herring-bone-pack-era-95-dx-slip-on-dx-98-release-information-1

Offspring takes inspiration from the classic Van Doren prints of the past, the Herring-BONE pack is alive with influences from both the Vans archive and vintage Vans prints found in Japanese thrift stores. Throughout the years the iconic Pirate print has been adapted, twisted and changed from its original inception all the way to the Star Wars Pack where it featured the Darth Vader mask. The upper ‘Herring-BONE’ print evokes memories of some of Van’s earlier prints as well as from the early 90s, but now adapted and enlarged to give a more exaggerated aesthetic. The Herring-BONE pack sees the OFFSPRING logo merge with a skull and crossbones and can be found de-bossed into the side walls of the ERA 95 DX & the Classic slip on DX 98.

Sorry for the late drop info, but these released on July 13th, and as far as online goes, only the Slip-On is still available

Pioneering a new vision for Vans performance skate apparel, the Versa Hoodie DX’s ubiquitous look showcases an evolution of style, comfort and skateboard functionality all-in-one. No matter how hard you skate, the Versa Hoodie DX is constructed to breathe easy, repel water and handle wear and tear.

“Our pro skate team riders are the major catalyst for developing a hoodie that would perform at the highest level,” Vans director of global design for apparel and accessories, Colin O’Connor explains. “We focused on incorporating a durable fabric blend, comfort and functionality that would fit our riders needs both on and off the board.”

Vans – “Souvenir Jacket” Collection (Fall 2017)

HO17_Classics_NJOT_VN0A38F8QU3_ClassicSlip-OnDX_CaliforniaSouvenir_Black-BlancDeBlanc_Macro

Words via Vans:

“Vans kicks off the upcoming holiday season with a head-to-toe offering that draws inspiration from the souvenir bomber jacket. The eight-piece California Souvenir assortment is dressed in rich materials including satin, decorative lurex piping, and embroidered detailing across a collection of Classics and apparel staples. The capsule will be available worldwide beginning this October.

The hero piece of the capsule comes from Vans’ interpretation of the souvenir jacket, which sets the stage for the entire offering. Vans designers pay homage to the customary elements of a traditional souvenir jacket including two-toned color-blocking, striped rib detailing, quilted lining and embroidered back script and tiger. Those original elements are blended alongside nods to Vans’ home state of California with embroidered palm trees and poppy flowers.

Proving Vans Classics are not just one thing, Vans designers have brought the flight satin and embroidery elements to three of the brand’s most iconic silhouettes. The Classic Slip-On features the all over satin material and embroidery across the vamp of shoe. The tiger in the poppies are mirrored across a rose-pink execution, while the black Classic Slip-On highlights the tiger in the palms and the poppy on each side. The Old Skool and Sk8-Hi Reissue take a subtle approach and use lush satin paneling throughout and feature decorative lurex cording across the heel. Each style is delivered in classic black with a metallic greige available in the Old Skool.  Available in Unisex sizing (up to a mens 10).”

The California Souvenir Pack will be available to shop online at Vans.com/Classics or in Vans retail locations beginning this October!

Vans Classics – Blocked Pack (Available Now!)

SP17_Classics_OldSkool_Blocked_Collection_Elevated

With the coming of spring, Vans updates two of its core styles by way of the Blocked Pack, that re-imagines color-block design. The Authentic DX and Old Skool DX feature cotton twill canvas, UltraCush® HD insoles for added comfort and rich color-blocking to create an assortment of footwear for men and women.

Vans designers juxtapose classic white canvas against bright racing red, dark slate gray, classic black, deep coral and faint lavender across the Authentic DX and Old Skool DX. The rich color tones on the Authentic DX begin at the vamp and transition to the heel friction and foxing. The color-block detail on the Old Skool DX is carried over the vamp, quarter panel and leather Sidestripe with a minimal appearance on the heel friction and foxing. The sophisticated color combinations result in an optical effect that gives color-blocking a clean look with a contemporary twist.

Vans Anaheim Factory Edition Series

SP17_Classics_Anaheim_Collection_Elevated

Vans pays tribute to over 50 years of “Off The Wall” design history by releasing the Anaheim Factory pack, a collection of Classic silhouettes that draws inspiration from the original footwear produced in Anaheim, Calif. When Vans opened for business in 1966, a 400 sq. ft. retail store was connected to the front of the production factory, which sold a handful of simple canvas footwear. Today, Vans calls upon those early styling cues to release a modern update to Vans Icons as a part of the ongoing Classics “Not Just One Thing” campaign.

Every design element within the Anaheim Factory pack could be dated back to the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. Style numbers are used to signify the original design mold of three footwear models – the Authentic 44, Old Skool 36 and Sk8-Hi 38. Each style utilizes a marshmallow sidewall with a higher profile and is treated with a slight sheen that was present after going through Vans’ early vulcanization process. The entire offering features a heavy 10-oz. canvas and the Sidestripe models showcase a suede toe cap, heel counter and eyestay. All colorways including the racing red, mineral green and light grey could have been found when you visited the original Anaheim Factory store. Vans has equipped each silhouette with a premium UltraCush footliner so you can enjoy a modernized take on one of Vans Classic Icon silhouettes.

The Anaheim Factory pack ranges from $75- $85 USD and is available to shop globally in Vans retail stores and online at Vans.com/Classics now.
