theMenace Acid Wash Series 1 x Levi’s® x Sk8-Hi

It’s been a minute since we’ve seen a new release from theMenace, and his latest creation is definitely a unique one, to say the least. For all of you new people, who have just recently joined our blog, theMenace is one of few sneaker customizers, who primarily reconstruct their shoes, and rebuild it from the ground up, thus appearing to look like it came from the factory that way.  This newest release is all about the details and materials. How often have you seen a pair of Vintage Levi’s black acid wash jean-covered pair of Sk8-hi’s? Never? That’s right! theMenace never disappoints with his recons, and this one is no different. He’s only offering up one pair to be made, so you will be the only person rocking these for sure. What do you all think of this new unveil?  These can be pre-ordered on his webshop for $325, a very cheap price for a one off, hand-built custom!

words by theMenace,

“With a personal love for vintage acid wash denim and added encouragement from fellow sneaker customizer EF, I decided to make the “ultimate sacrifice” and chop up a couple pairs of otherwise hard to find acid wash Levi’s® 501s which were my own size I might add and use them on a couple new sneaker projects. Taking scissors to the jeans were a challenge in of itself but once the denim was laid out and made into panels I knew the end product would be worth it. The pictures should let you decide for yourself. This is the first pair of the series and is a special 1of1* release aswell.”

Vans Customs “106” Review

My first pair of Vans 106 customs has came in, and I’m stoked.  The materials are your standard Vans canvas, thin insole, and vulcanized sole, but let’s be honest, this is more about the awesomeness of being able to create something all your own.  Your colors.  Your blocking.  Your style.  I chose to go the olive green route, mainly because I don’t have many pairs of olive green shoes, and the colorway is starting to come back into style.  I’ve always been a fan of the earth tone era, of the early 2000’s, when brands like Triple 5 Soul, LRG, and Mixwell were holding it down, with some dope color combos.  I sat the 106 on top of a black sole, because I wanted to wear test these shoes, being that it was my first pair of 106 customs, and as you all know, the common white vulcanized sole will start to look beat after about 30 minutes of wear.  OK, I might be exaggerating a little, but not by much!  I finished these off with red laces, a proper contrast to the military olive that covers these nicely.  You can order yours from Vans here.

F&F Customs x Vans Sk8-Hi “SSD1”

It’s been a minute since we’ve had any custom sneakers up here on our site, but recon artist Desp1 of Fresh&Fly Customs has just dropped this new release on us.  Using the popular Sk8-hi model, he deconstructed the shoe, and wrapped the existing material with raw Japanese selvedge navy colored denim.  Faux snakeskin was also utilized on the jazz stripe.  These came out exceptionally clean, and are going to be up for sale soon, on his webshop.  Another notable thing to mention, is that he posted up the “how-to” process here, on how he created these beauties, in an attempt at driving the customization movement for newcomers looking to try it out, in a time when most sneaker customizers have been slowly starting to move on to other things.  If you follow the customizing community, there’s a lot of heads who are getting worn out, due to the length of time it takes to construct a pair of these shoes, and their product not moving due to the higher prices that a one-off design is rightfully priced at.  The average reconstructed pair of Vans, runs in the neighborhood of $300, which is a steal, for a quality, hand-crafted piece of art, that only a handful of people will have.  Think about that, when looking at your next pair of custom reconstructed shoes!  Enjoy more pics after the jump

Vans…Painted like Nikes (customs)

I saw these over on SoleCollector forums, and thought it was funny, unique, and somewhat clean enough to post up on here.  It’s so random, but I know you’ll all enjoy these.  These were done up by member: Granny Poonanie over on SC forums, and he even posted up a video on his work.  Check it out below:

theMenace Dead Birds 1of1 x Vans® Sk8-Hi

Here’s the most recent custom created by our man, theMenace.  It’s not confirmed, but I believe the name “Dead Birds” was chosen for this project, due to the use of ostrich leather on the entire shoe.  His minimalist approach to this project, using only two materials for the entire shoe, allowed the ostrich leather to really stand out.  Notice the deleted ankle collar, and toe stitching.  He is only going to be making one pair of these, so if your money’s right, then head on over to his webshop, and purchase these 1 of 1 customs.  Check out our forums, for a 15% off coupon code, that you can redeem for any custom orders from theMenace.

F&F Customs x Vans Sk8-Hi “Califa Raza”

Seen here are a pair of reconstructed customs done up by sneaker customizer Desp1, dubbed the “Califa Raza’s”.  A clean design, that is subtle in color, but with a crazy twist, on the side panel pattern.  Very neatly constructed, I might ad!  The inspiration for the shoe design, was based off of California culture, and the 1990s movie Colors.  This shoe obviously represents one gang’s colors, with the blue and gray combination.  The pattern was inspired by a bandana.  He is in the process of finding a pair of red Sk8-Hi’s, to complete the other pair.  These are a 1 of 1 custom, and are a size 9.5.  They are available for purchase from his webstore for $110.

theMenace x JBF x Vans® Sk8-Hi

We’ve been patiently waiting for this release, and it’s finally here.  Sneaker recon artists, theMenace, and JBF, have gotten together for this new collaborative project.   These feature a signature fully stitched Vans® Sk8-Hi upper, consisting of a black semi-gloss leather upper against hand quilted black semi-gloss leather, which is hand studded with  black 1/4″ pyramid studs. Genuine grey/black viper snake skin finishes the upper, while the heels are adorned with black powder coated D-rings for a lux appeal. Finished off with flat black skate laces.  Great work homie!   These are available for purchase from theMenace’s webstore.

a few words from theMenace:

“Originally inspired by a high-end wallet, I reached out to fellow sneaker customizer, recon-artist and friend JBF to help bring this idea to form. Later crafted with the ever sought after and infamous Supreme Blazers in mind this collaborative effort truly showcases the budding talents and love for the craft each of us have. This is the first of certainly more collaborations between JBF and myself and I look forward to lending my hand to a feature pair of his in the near future. These truly could not have been done without the efforts of each of us so the end product is that much more special. Thanks to all for the support!”

Hush Grip It & Zip It x Vans Sk8-Hi

Sneaker customizer Hush is no rookie to the Vans customizing game, and the proof is right here in his latest creation, dubbed the “Grip It & Zip It”.  A Sk8-Hi model, overlayed with an olive colored ripstop material, as well as a custom sewn in heel zipper.  Other details to be mentioned, are the custom embroidered “H” tongue logos, which makes these look like they came straight from the factory that way!  Having your own embroidery machine definitely opens up more avenues of creativity that customizers all seem to have no shortage of.  Hush also allowed us to see his process of how these shoes came to life.  Check it out on his blog at http://hushfabrications.blogspot.com/.  These are a 1 of 1 custom, and can be purchased there, as well.  Nice work Hush!
