To celebrate America’s 239th birthday, Pabst Blue Ribbon is giving away 239 pairs of their limited-edition PBR Vans via Instagram.  Here’s what you have to do:

1. Post an American-themed photo to Instagram anytime from Friday, 7/3 to Sunday, 7/5
2. Tag @pabstblueribbon, ‪#‎PabstUSA‬, and include your desired shoe size in the caption.
3. They will select their favorite photos and reach out to winners via @pabstblueribbon through Instagram DM on Tuesday (7/7).
4. All shoes will ship on Friday (7/10)

“Vans Custom Culture is an annual competition in which high school art classes customize four heritage styles from Vans Classics with designs that reflect the three core values of the Vans lifestyle — action sports, art and music — as well as a “local flavor” theme reflecting the school’s local roots. Last year’s winners all hailed from one school, Rio Rancho High School in New Mexico, who claimed the $50,000 grand prize for their art program. The prize-winning kicks take the form of an Authentic featuring an all-over print inspired by the geography of New Mexico; a Classic Slip-On that pays tribute to tattoo culture with ink and skin artwork; Sk8-Hi channeling the spirit of rock music with a guitar graphic across the upper; and a 106 Vulcanized that gives the nod to surf lifestyle with beach imagery. Look for the Custom Culture pack to release in March at select Vans and Journeys locations, as well as Vans’ online shop. Registration for the 2013 edition of Vans Custom Culture ends February 11th. High school art classes can sign up for this year’s contest here.”

“Yesterday we presented the upcoming collaboration between In4mation and Vans on the Chukka Low ‘Rattles’, the snakeskin covered skate shoe. Well, since the 200 pairs that will drop next Friday, January 13th, will fly off of the shelves in no time, we want to make that you still get your pair and therefore will give away a couple of them.

This time we wanted to try out something else, so we will give away the sneakers via Instagram.

One of the greatest things about Vans, is how they were known in their early years for their customizing, and small production runs, which allowed all sorts of people to come to Vans, and ask them to whip up a quick run of shoes for promotional use, or what have you.  In this case, it was legendary rock radio station 106.7 KROQ, here in the Los Angeles, and Orange County area that went to Vans, to create these awesome, unseen promo Vans.  My homie Jim, aka  5150Marley, sent me these pics of his friends late 1980s pair, made in the USA, Vans Era’s, which he had won from KROQ some 20+ years ago.  How dope is that?  Check out all the logos…on the sidewalls, and all over the canvas.  No doubt about it, these are a rare gem, and people will be asking questions!  Thanks Jim!

“Art and design students can resonate with the fact that Art is not taken as seriously in many high schools as it should and VANS is taking matters in its own hands by initiating the Custom Culture program. It is a program that pushes the talents of young artists and gives an opportunity for students to customize shoes in a nation wide competition format. VANS will select ten high schools from each region (North/South/East/West/California) and each will eventually move onto the final showcase held in June 2011. Five schools will be given a travel budget to make way to New York and registration is open right now. Also take a look at the campaign trailers featuring the veterans in the game including Mister Cartoon and Lanie Alabanza-Barcena as well as the VANS creative team.”

One of our OTWS members, Magas, won one of the pairs of the OTW Bedfords from the contest held between In4mation and HighSnobiety.  The coolest thing, is that this pair is a sample.  Don’t forget to compare this sample, with a production version Magas!  With prior In4mation releases, some minor detail was always changed up for the production version.  We should be anticipating these at the end of the month, hopefully!

The results are in, and after some people have voted, the Zero Lo “S” by Luke Meier is the most popular shoe amongst our readers.  It just goes to show that even though Vans is known for their classics, if a good looking new model comes out, it can still be widely accepted.  The rest of the world can enjoy the general release Zero Lo that will be out later this year at all Vans retailers!
