All Nations Skate Jam 2014 – Pendleton Half Cab (April 2014)

3

We’re no strangers to the awesome Vans that Todd Harder and his All Nations Skate Jam put together each year, for their annual skating event which benefits the Native American youth in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  This is the first time they’ve chosen to use the Half Cab, with the blessing of Steve Caballero, who is a regular attendee at the skating event.  The ASNJ Vans are becoming quite the collector’s item, mainly due to the usage of authentic Pendleton wool material, in Native-American inspired patterns, and have even been featured in the annual All Gone book, by LaMJC owner Michael DuPuoy.  Every year, these shoes sell out in most popular sizes, so this year Todd has allocated one pair of each size for pre-order through their eBay page.  The price is $150 + shipping, but don’t let the price scare you away.  These are extremely limited, and otherwise only available at the All Nations Skate Jam in Albuquerque on April 26 & 27 of 2014, plus all proceeds benefit the Nibwaakaawin youth organization.  Money well spent!  Head on over to the eBay auction to see if they have your size left!

Vans Syndicate 025.154 – “AVE/Dill Pack” AV Classic “S” & AV Classic High “S” (Available Now @silostore)

025.154_AV-over

The next Vans Syndicate release has been popping up at local “S” dealers, and this time, AVE and Dill are back at it, bringing some fresh and original ideas to the table.  For this 025.154 release, they’ve created a new model, in a high and low, that’s really an update to the Native American model, which Anthony Van Engelen turned into a low, dubbed the AV Native American Low.  The AV Classic is a deconstructed version of that shoe, with as few panels needed as possible.  Most of the lines of the shoe come from the detailed stitching, but the focal point of both shoes are definitely the materials used.  The AV Classic “S” features a spider web pattern on black canvas for the entire shoe, while the AV Classic High “S” features a premium leather construction, similar to a Chuck, and featuring the Mr. Cartoon “S” on the inside ankle.  There’s a perforated jazz stripe, as well as a spider web textured design on the side wall of the vulc sole.  Our homie Brant from Silo spoke with Neal at Syndicate, and he said “The molding on the Classic High “S” is inspired by the spiderwebs  AVE was carving into his boards, and DILL’s inspiration was a riff off that — wanting a heavy texture and for it to come off looking like a mesh.”  This release has something to offer for everybody.  Whether you’re style is low-key and simple, or loud and attention grabbing.  There are also a few other special things to note.  DRAWER BOXES ARE BACK!!!  Yep, that’s right.  This is a must for the collector, as we like to stack our boxes high.  Thank you Vans Syndicate!!!  Also, there are a few goodies included with this pack.  A dope Syndicate “S” keychain is included with each pair, as well as a few cool new sticker designs.  Don’t sleep, and head on over to our main supporter Silo’s webstore, to cop your pairs, or wait for your local shop to get them.  We support being loyal to your local spot.  They all need your support.  There may be a review coming soon!

Vans x The Beatles – Yellow Submarine Collection (March 2013)

Beatles-x-Vans-Collection

Being that Rolling Stone officially dropped the info on these a few days back, I guess we can officially share this info with y’all.  Vans will be releasing a band tribute series for the iconic band The Beatles, featuring artwork from their album and film, Yellow Submarine.  The collection will feature a Sk8-Hi with animated photos of each of the four members, one on each side of the left and right shoe, taken from the film.  The Classic Slip-Ons play off the movie’s Sea of Monsters, showing trippy marine life swimming in an ocean of pink.  The Eras depict all four band members, some wearing rainbow pants, hanging out in a yellow garden, and the final pair, the Authentic, is adorned with a pattern that reads “Allyouneedislove” running over and over again and into itself in purple, yellow and green.  On February 9th, the Beatles will be the subject of a two-hour CBS special that will commemorate their arrival in the United States.  Look for the shoes to be available in March!

Vans x Della – Collection (Available Now!) @dellalosangeles

vans-della-collection-5

Vans has teamed up with Los Angeles based Della, a socially responsible fashion company known for their dedication to empowering the women of the Volta region, of West Ghana, West Africa.  If the design doesn’t hook you, perhaps the purpose will.  There, these women handcraft fabrics through a traditional batik process, which produces a one-of-a-kind print, which makes for some truly custom Vans, with no two pairs having the same exact look.  Della went with the classics on this release, choosing a Sk8-Hi Reissue, Era, Authentic, Sk8-Hi Slim, and Slip-On.  Colors were inspired by the landscape and culture of the West African region.  Accompanying these, are a few hand bags which can all be seen over on the Vans site, and are available for purchase on their webstore right now.  Support Under The Palms and click the pictures above to go to the collection!

Vans – Ray Barbee Era 46 Pro & Old Skool 92 Pro (Available Now!)

Any time Vans gets together with Ray Barbee for a shoe release, you know you’re in for something dope.  There’s always a bit of early 90’s style, and he always takes it back to the simple basics with those earth-tones he chooses!  This time, he chose mid grey for the Old Skool 92 Pro, and black for the Era 46 Pro.  The inner linings have a patchwork print, taken from his rag doll artwork, and other than that, these are just a nice clean colorway for two of the best Vans shoes out there!  Both are available now, by clicking on their respective pics.  Support Under The Palms and purchase from our links!  Thanks everyone!

Vans Vault x Bows & Arrows – “Acid Test” Era 59 LX (UTP Exclusive Review!)

AcidTest5

Collaborations are always exciting in the world of sneaker collecting.  We get to see a shop or brand’s personal creation.  Sometimes it has an awesome inspirational story beind it.  Sometimes it’s a falsely made up one.  Sometimes it’s about the artist who helped them design it, or a theme of some sort.  There’s no rules to it, except to make it about you, and that’s what Bows & Arrows in Berkeley, CA did.  Representing the local “mind expanders” looking for that perfect hallucinogen, they decided to go with a trippy twisted pattern on a 10 oz. canvas throughout the entire shoe.  It’s nice to see the NorCal psychonauts represented, without referencing the “Dead Head” culture, which seems to be the go-to theme, rainbow tie-dye patterns and all.  The black on white theme usually makes for a less than stellar concept, but this pattern is just ridiculously dope, and the leather accents complement the entire shoe nicely.  A “B” woven label sits prominently on the tongue, for that custom branding we like to see on every collaboration, and what better way to break up an all-white vulcanized sole, than with a bright red Vault heel tab?  The numbers were limited, and the Bows & Arrows exclusive is now sold out, so use your internet searching skills and hopefully you can get a pair for a decent price!

Vans Vault x Gosha Rubchinskiy – Old Skool LX (Produced by Comme des Garçons)

gosha-rubchinskiy-vans-old-skool-1-960x640

Athens, Greece’s very own NUMBER 3 have recently dropped a highly limited Vans Vault collaboration with high-end Russian designer Gosha Rubchinskiy, who has recently been collaborating with Comme des Garçons.  The shoes were available on their webstore, and all but a Euro sz41 was left when we last checked.  The Old Skool LX features a combination of black leathers, and 3M reflective accents mainly on the jazz stripe and laces.  The shoe also features a gum vulcanized sole, which we don’t see too much on Vaults.  Minimal branding is seen on the footbed, for that luxurious look.  Not sure if these are exclusive to NUMBER 3, but it sure does look like it.  Not a bad release at all!
