Vans x Active Ride Shop – 25th Anniversary Sk8-Hi Pro (November 2014)

active-ride-shop-x-skate-hi-pro-25th-anniversary-01

Words via Hypebeast:

“25 years is as good as a century in small business, yet Active Ride Shop looks well in its prime as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. To observe the occasion, the California-based skateboarding institution tapped none other than Vans to create a special version of the classic Sk8-Hi silhouette. The shoe makes use of premium pig suede and ballistic nylon in the upper, meant to express the richness and strength of the Active Brand, while elsewhere using heather grey fleece at the collar and heel to represent the retailer’s inaugural product offering: sweatshirts. Limited to just 400 pairs worldwide, pick up this special collaboration beginning November 1 in-store and online.”

Vans Vault x Diemme – Collection (Holiday 2014)

DiemmeHoliday14

Words via Complex:

“Vans is going extra luxe this holiday season.

The Southern California skate brand has teamed up with fellow footwear company Diemme to take its signature sneakers to another level. The partnership marks their fourth collaboration and is the most luxurious to date. The collection consists of two updated iterations of the Era and Sk8-Hi, and each one is constructed of premium Horween leather. If you’re up on your leather goods game, then you’ll know that Horween represents nothing but that good stuff. So, it should come as no surprise that the kicks start at $300.

The Montebelluna Era LX ($300) and Montebelluna Hi LX ($350) are decked out in two-tone color schemes of autumn-ready palettes, including hits of brown, tan, and navy. Watch for the entire collection to drop next month at select Vault stockists”

Official UTP Review: Vans Vault x OTH – Varsity Pack Sk8-Hi 46 LX & Authentic LX

IMG_4181

The Vault by Vans x Off The Hook “Varsity Pack” release is just a few days away, and as we near the end of the year, I start to think back on all of the releases that stood out, and I’ve already made up my mind that these will be in my top 5.  That’s a bold statement, but I’m confident I won’t be changing my mind.  One close look at the craftsmanship on this pack, and you just might have to agree with me.  Both are equally exceptional, and when tasked with designing two totally opposite silhouettes, it can be difficult to give them both a unique identity, without having them look like some horrible set of twins.  Think of Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger!  Huh?  What?  Ok bad analogy.  What I mean to say, is that these are more like a pair of good looking siblings, featuring both the awesome wool and premium leather traits that their designers came up with, but in their own unique way.

The Authentic is known for having a lot of open space up in the toe area, a perfect place to showcase the fine wool material, in all it’s nappy gray glory.  The dark pebbled leather wraps the entire back half of the shoe, completing the varsity jacket aesthetic, and the brown leather accents contrast nicely.  They finish off with high-quality red waxed round laces.  Square leather laces are also included.

For the Sk8-Hi 46 LX, the premium brown leather steals the spotlight.  The Sk8-Hi 46 utilizes a unique two-piece toe box construction, which I assume was for a more durable, work-wear type of shoe.  We’ve seen it used before, particularly on the Vault Schaffer Pack, and the added panel and stitching helps add some depth to this shoe’s design, as well as draws more attention to the perfectly tanned leather.  The details don’t stop there.  For the back half of the shoe, the same wool and pebbled leather combination can be found on the outer panel, and is “flipped” on the inside panel of each shoe, which is dope and allows everyone to see all of the different materials chosen for this shoe, from just about any angle.  These are finished off nicely with squared leather laces, and comes with the red round waxed laces as well.

These are a thing of beauty, and I do hope you don’t hesitate to pick these up.  They won’t last long.  The Authentic ($95 CAD) and Sk8-Hi ($135 CAD) will be available in limited quantity on Saturday, October 25th at 10AM in store and 12PM in the online store (Eastern time).

Off The Hook in Montreal, Canada has been on a roll lately, and they’re back at it again with a new collaboration project with Vans Vault, dubbed the Varsity Pack.  In their signature OTH style that we’ve all come to expect, these feature a mixture of premium leather, and wool, similar to what you’d find on a varsity jacket.  The colors chosen for the release fit right into the earth tones of Fall.

Here’s what OTH has to say about their project:

“MONTREAL, QC – We are proud to introduce the Varsity Pack. This fall, Vans OTH was inspired by the Montreal college culture and imagined a collection channeling its authentic varsity style.

The Varsity Pack

More than a hundred years ago, the first hockey club in the world was founded and the first Football game outside the U.S. was played. A student currently in college would go on to invent the sport of Basketball. All of it took place in Montreal. Soon, the university teams’ jackets and sweatshirts were adopted outside the rink, court and field. Admirers of the traditional varsity jacket, we were influenced by the mix of colors and textures on this classic item. The leather and felt pieces – in shades of grey, brown and navy – give a sportswear and college feel to the collection. Finally, the stitching on the Authentic and the paneling of the Sk8-Hi demonstrates our attention to detail and gives a final touch to our varsity look.

The Authentic ($95 CAD) and Sk8-Hi ($135 CAD) shoes will be available in limited quantity on Saturday, October 25th at 10AM in store and 12PM in the online store (Eastern time).”

Vans Syndicate 027.166 x Alexis Ross – OG Authentic Pro CV “S” (October 18th via @silostore)

VANS-SYNDICATE_ROSS4 copyBriefing via Silo:

“Flung into the oblique environments and suspicious climate of greater Hollywood by chance, Alexis Ross grew up to become one of many things: president of the Majestic Persuasions, member of Local 800, BC, IFK, vice president of Gents Of Desire, co-owner of Café legs #1, #2, #3 and #5, sign writer, homemade tattoo maker, chain-smoker, professional napper, husband, father, photographer, production designer, and wearer of short sleeve button-ups, to name a few. Where titles and job descriptions become increasingly redundant and void of meaning, his capacity as a gifted artist remains. With a conscious idea of the concept called art, his own craft is deeply rated in Los Angeles and its countless lives lived under the radar.

Syndicate proudly presents an Authentic “S” pack, constructed on Chinese laundry bag uppers and linings cut from mixed oxford shirt materials tied together by a woven label custom designed by Alexis Ross. Fine feathers are for the birds. You are what’s in your hamper sack.

Features:

• LAUNDRY BAG TEXTILE UPPER
• MIXED OXFORD LININGS
• POLYURETHANE CUSHIONING
• VANS ORIGINAL WAFFLE GUM RUBBER OUTSOLE

Also available is a matching custom ringspun Syndicate pocket tee.

UTP Exclusive Interview: SBTG x NON Beijing – “Straight To Hell” Custom Vans

Video and photo credit:  Betaphats Studios
Some info about NOW OR NEVER

In the world of sneakers, customization has always been present. People have this need to put their personal touch on them. Sometimes it’s as simple as swapping out laces. Sometimes it’s as complex as taking apart an entire shoe, and reconstructing it with an entirely different material. There are many who are making a name for themselves in this growing custom sneaker culture, but only a handful have been able to successfully get their artistic creations reproduced by a major brand, and when you look back at all of the shoes of this genre, you have to show respect where respect’s due, and that’s with our friend here, Mark Ong, aka Sabotage. His claim to fame, is of course the Royalefam Nike SB Dunk Low aka “Sabotage Dunk”, one of my all-time favorites, but he’s also helped create some other successful releases for the likes of New Balance, DC, a custom pair of Nike’s for Kobe Bryant, and the list goes on and on. He’s always been into the punk scene, and grew up skateboarding in Singapore, so naturally, you’d think he would’ve already done some work with Vans, right? Well, no he hasn’t, and we hope that we can help get something setup for him real soon, or at least with us, on some custom project of some sort! Which leads me to our exclusive interview we have obtained with him. Being able to get closer to his roots in skate and punk rock, Mark has decided to switch his focus to Vans sneakers. He’s always worn them, but he’s sort of been loyal to the athletic sports brands that he’s been lucky to collaborate with over the years. Mark thought it was important to first reach out to the true base of Vans fans. Those who give a fuck about what he’s doing, and those who get it. Well, he’s come to the right place, and we’ve officially converted him to the dark side!

Enjoy the conversation we had a few days back, and check out the awesome video that him and NON Beijing created for this collaborative project above.

SBTG x NON Beijing – “Straight To Hell” Custom Vans Collection

STH-39
With an amalgamation of influences, SBTG’s works is a bricolage of punk rock and skateboarding.
SBTG’s artistic practice is one infused with moral courage; living by the punk and skateboarding tenet of having the freedom to be what they want.
Inspired through a conversation with Paco (N.O.N) about rebel culture and SBTG’s recent art show titled Acoustic Anarchy Redux,
they mutually chose a painting from the show titled “Straight to Hell” to be the subject of this collection.
The design features a re appropriated rendition of an old petroleum logo , a skull , hotrod inspired flames and spiderwebs.
These elements are put together to suggest rebellion and freedom on 4 Vans Silhouettes.
Sk8 Hi, Sk8 Mid, Slip-on and Era.
21 pairs total.
