Blends Hints At A New Bones Decon Sk8-Hi!

blends-vans-vault-sh8-hi-bones-1

Last week, Blends sent out a link to their Autumn/Winter 2016 lookbook, and just like with the Peacoat Bones release, they revealed a new collab in the photoshoot.  This appears to be a Sk8-Hi Decon in black with white contrast stitching.  Not sure if this one has a zipper like the prior pairs, but the absence of different panels on the shoe makes for a dope minimalistic look, a style that is signature to Blends.  No official info has been released as of yet, but stay tuned!

Vans Pro – 50th Anniversary Sk8-Hi Pro ’91 Coors Light (Available at @silostore on 9.17.16)

COORSLIGHT-sk8-hi_VANS-50th

Beer drinkers unite!  The Vans 50th Anniversary celebration continues, this time with a familiar collaboration from decades ago.  You’ve seen vintage pairs of Coors Light Vans in the past, but they’ve always been the Era models, but never have you seen a Sk8-Hi model until now.  Vans has linked up with Coors again, to create this Sk8-Hi Pro ’91, but there’s a unique back story to this design, as with most of the “Syndicate allocated” 50th Anniversary Pro releases.  After reading a few comments on @natescrappy_vans50tharchive Instagram account, I learned that this design is an exact replica of a pair that Steve Van Doren created for Jeff Grosso back in 1991.  It was a one-off, and no other original Made In USA pairs exist.  Jeff even commented on said Instagram post that “they were the best shoes he ever owned”.  I can’t see these staying around very long, but if you put in some work online, you might be able to score a pair from Silo, or your local Vans Pro account this weekend.

Thanks to Silo and Nates Crappy Vans 50th Archive for the borrowed pics!

Vault by Vans x Highs and Lows – Sk8-Hi LX & Old Skool Zip LX (9.17.16)

HALsk8hi1

Words via Highs And Lows:

“In celebration of Vans’ 50th anniversary and our on-going partnership with Vans of 10 years, together we are proud to present the Vans Vault by Highs and Lows Sk8-Hi LX and Old Skool Zip LX. A two shoe collection that embraces late eighties signature skate heritage but executed through premium materials on instantly recognizable and classic Vans silhouettes – both offerings include uppers treated with a mixture of waxed suede whilst the printed canvas is unique to the Sk8-Hi, whereas the Old Skool features a more robust ballistic nylon mesh and heavy-duty medial zip. The use of silver eyelets, marled lining and contrast stitch details act as a nod to the properties of tin and alloy, a celebratory element of our on-going partnership together with Vans. The outsoles are treated in an iced, transparent finish which reveal ‘HIGHS’ and ‘LOWS’ wording respective to the Sk8-Hi and Old Skool – both the Sk8-Hi LX and Old Skool Zip LX will be available this Saturday, September 17 through a special one-day pop up event at 448 Beaufort Street and will be releasing alongside our new Highs and Lows Spring apparel collection.”

Vans x Fear Of God x Pac Sun – Sk8-Hi 38 Reissue (UTP Review!)

FOGSk8Hi2

Many woke up this morning to see that Pac Sun announced that their exclusive, super highly anticipated collaboration between Vans and Fear Of God was officially releasing this morning.  This came to us as a nice surprise, as we weren’t sure what was to become of this release.  Jerry Lorenzo has been dropping some hints on his social media accounts about these coming soon, but also stating that he wished he had more pairs for friends.  Not quite sure what to make of all of that, but as for now, just the Sk8-Hi has dropped at a few select stores.  Nothing online, just physical stores.  Will there still be pairs allocated for online?  Perhaps.  Keep your eyes and ears to the street.  No word on the Era as of yet, but hopefully they will eventually release, as they’re pretty dope, even if you don’t dress yourself in F.O.G.

I was able to get my hands on a pair of these Sk8-Hi 38 Reissues and I wanted to point out a few nice features.  First off, the black sidewall material is the exact same “surplus” canvas that was used on the Vault x Wtaps OG Sk8-Hi LX a few years back.  The lining is a premium pig suede, similarly found on most Vaults and Supreme Vans, and there’s a F.O.G. label sewn on to the back of the tongue.  Other than that, there’s no external branding.  Jerry’s black/birch color blocking is very unique, as past designs haven’t bothered to separate the vamp and sole colors from the entire back half of the shoe before.  The first sample pairs we saw, featured a blacked out jazz stripe, but the actual release opted for a contrasting white stripe.  Nothing a DIY touch-up can’t fix, if that’s your steez.  The contrasting white stitching is a nice touch, to an assuming high-fashion pair of Vans.  Great job overall.

For a realistic review, check out a few shots I took with an iPhone SE, and hopefully you’ll still have a chance at getting these, as most Pac Sun locations are already selling out.

Vans x Madrid – 50th Anniversary Sk8-Hi Pro ’87 aka “Madrid Reissue Pro” (8.20.16 via @silostore) #silostore

MADRID_FLY--VANS-50thlimited

Although we’ve seen various shops release these already, there was a hard release that was supposed to be set in place for this weekend, August 20th, and the homies at Silo are one of a select few Pro accounts that will be releasing the Vans x Madrid “Fly Paper” Sk8-Hi Pro ’87.  This model is more of a Native American design, but with a crescent moon toe cap, thus the unique name “Madrid Reissue Pro”.  Since it’s late 80’s debut, this model has only retro’d once, and that was under the Vault line, and was nearly identical to this one, except that this one features the Pro benefits like the Duracap, and UltraCushHD footbeds.  The CMYK Madrid embroidered labels are present on the side panel and tongue, as well as the “Fly Paper” printed canvas on the side panels.  Check out the project briefing over on Silo’s webstore, where the link to the shoes will be live on Saturday.  Don’t sleep on these dope Vans!

Vans Vault x Wtaps – “Original Classics” Collection (8.20.16)

VANS_WTAPS

Vans and WTAPS mark a new milestone in their storied partnership to unveil a premium 10-piece footwear and apparel collection, deeply rooted in a philosophy derived from the finest Japanese craftsmanship.  As Vans celebrates its 50th anniversary and WTAPS approaches their 20th year, both brands honor their history by introducing an Anaconda-inspired embossed leather pack in three new colorways, alongside a collection of Vault by Vans Original Classics highlighting the coveted Bones motif.  Arguably the most sought-after design emblem in the history of Vans x WTAPS projects, the white stitched Bones motif resurfaces on black and olive executions of the OG Sk8-Hi LX, OG Chukka Boot LX and OG Authentic LX. Each style is unified by the coveted Bones pattern stitched across the quarter panels, complete with a solid toecap design.  A unique piece to round out the fall collection reveals a premium military-inspired jacket, sporting the all-over Bones motif and a final, expressive touch that reads “Vans #1 Waffle Lovers Club” stitched on the back.  Launched in 1996, WTAPS director Tetsu Nishiyama, or “TET”, has built a brand that defines modern design in a league of its own. No stranger to Vans, WTAPS celebrate more than a decade of limited edition collaborations with the brand under the Vans Syndicate and Vault by Vans labels.

The Vault by Vans x WTAPS collection retails from $65 to $360 and launches in Japan on August 20, 2016. The Anaconda styles will be available globally on August 27, 2016 and the Bones styles on September 10, 2016. The jacket will be available in limited quantities in select retailers globally alongside the Bones footwear capsule.

Vans x Pass~Port – Old Skool Pro (Available @silostore on 8.13.16)

PassPort4

It appears that Vans and Pass~Port have been working on a little collaboration that has been kept tightly under wraps, which is just awesome.  Too many times, we get early leaks on product, and that just takes away the fun sometimes.  This one came out of left field for sure, and the end result is just amazing.  For those of you unfamiliar with Pass~Port, they’re a brand from down under, and their style represents their travels, their friends, and their local Australian/New Zealand heritage.  If you look at their apparel, you’ll notice a lot of browns, oranges, and off-whites in the mix, giving an earthy vibe if you will.  For their inaugural collab, they chose to construct an Old Skool Pro in two colorways, brown, and white.  Each one consists of a mixture of hairy suede, and washed canvas, featuring an embroidered slogan on each heel that reads “International + Solidarity”.  Pass~Port branding can also be found on the tongue, as well as the UltraCush HD footbeds.  Both shoes feature brown leather linings, which are a nod to their brown top and bottom veneers that are featured on all Pass~Port decks.  I’m really digging the simple style of these, and the materials they chose will surely make for a comfortable Old Skool.  Flexibility & breathability are key.  Great job Pass~Port, and even GREATER job at keeping these under wraps for so long.  Surprises are always fun!

(I’ve added my own personal review pics of the brown pair, as well as Silo’s much more professional pics for a dual perspective on these, so enjoy!)

Silo has links up already for these, and will be releasing this upcoming Saturday the 13th.
