Vault By Vans x Joe Freshgoods – Chocolate Valley Resort Pack (1.21.23)

SP23_Vault_JFG_203_Group

Vault by Vans and Joe Freshgoods reunite to present “Chocolate Valley Resort” – the concept of a place based on a moment of time. The latest collection of footwear, apparel and accessories is an ode to travel and leisure from the Black experience, visualized through history and community. The Vault by Vans x Joe Freshgoods collection will be available to shop on January 21 at Every Now & Then, a retail and resource company and on JoeFreshgoods.com, followed by a release at select Vault by Vans retailers globally and on Vans.com.

“Chocolate Valley Resort is inspired by my love for travel and research. For this collection I wanted to create something that aligns with the rich history of Vault by Vans, but from a new perspective. Chocolate Valley Resort marries the history of Black travel and leisure with winter-ready pieces that blend playfulness and functionality”, said Joe Freshgoods Robinson.

Combining his design prowess, affinity for historical references and personal experience with Midwest winters, Joe Freshgoods designed a collection of head to toe footwear and apparel essentials that are ready for winter and beyond. Captured by documentarian Yashaddai Owens featuring Barrington Darius, the accompanying lookbook set in the 1950s, tells the story of a Black writer exploring “Chocolate Valley Resort” seeking the space to reset, relax and reconnect. The collection and lookbook are an homage to history and Black writers such as James Baldwin and Audre Lorde who traveled abroad to escape racism in America and to build their literary careers. The winterized resort serves as a safe space to foster creativity and community right at home.

The full range re-envisions workwear with modern silhouettes and bright colors while keeping movement and creativity in mind. The Resort Puffer is designed in soft buttercream with elongated sleeves for a relaxed look and easy layering. The Chocolate Cardigan is crafted from faux mohair with coral almond jacquard stripes and “Chocolate Valley Resort” chain stitched on the back and JFG embroidery on the sleeve hem.

Pairing quality and simplicity, the Cabin Tee is a premium antique white jersey knit cut from 100% cotton. The heavyweight tee favors comfortability with a tagless collar and is packaged in a custom Chocolate Valley Resort bag. The Resort Uniform Cargo blends structure and playfulness for a modern workwear look featuring an adjustable waist, open wide leg and four cargo pockets. Oversized and constructed from nylon, the Logo Puffer tote is travel, everyday, and all weather. Contrasting almond and cream colors and an enlarged “J” offset the traditional shape. This roomy nylon bag features a top zipper and inner pocket, so pack it up and stay awhile! The Resort Mask is everything you need for winter, doubling as a warm beanie and balaclava made to cut the cold.

The Vault by Vans x Joe Freshgoods footwear lineup reimagines the Sk8-Hi Reissue Platform VLT LX with quilted uppers inspired by the padded puffer, juxtaposed by hairy suede panels to present a coral almond and camel colored two-tone contrast. Both colorways are finished with a signature platform outsole that lends a retro feel to the look. The Slip-Hiker LX is refreshed with a coral almond two-tone quilted nylon upper and panels. Outfitted with an all-weather MTE outsole for ultimate grip and contrasting almond and green accents, this winter ready silhouette is a must-have for your excursion.

“It’s always a goal of mine to use shades of pink in all of my collections—it’s the first color that inspired my design language many years ago. Since the collection is based around cold weather, I wanted to create a full range of items that would work especially for those Midwest winters. And to really lean into winter travel we infused a “quilted” design pattern across many of the pieces.”

A buttercream colorway of the Slip-Hiker LX will be available exclusively at JoeFreshgoods.com and “Every Now & Then” Retail location. Each pair of footwear includes a custom designed resort keychain and slide box.

The Vault by Vans x Joe Freshgoods “Chocolate Valley Resort” collection will be available to shop on January 21 at JoeFreshgoods.com and Every Now & Then retail location at 1008 W. Lake, Unit 2, Chicago, IL 60607 followed by a release at select Vault by Vans retailers globally and on Vans.com. For more information, please visit Vans.com/news.

Vans x Tony Alva – Collection (1.12.23)

info via Hypebeast:

“Today, Vans and Tony Alva’s skating imprint, Alva Skates, have joined forces to craft a line that champions both brands’ histories, with contributions from artist DJ Javier, Vans team rider Bella Kenworthy and musician KennyHoopla.

Vans and Alva go way back. In 1974, the American skateboarder signed a deal with the footwear brand, just under a decade into its existence. In 1977, Alva founded his namesake skating brand, after playing a pivotal role in creating Vans’ first-ever skateboarding shoe, the Era. And ever since, the two entities have existed symbiotically in their influence over the skating domain.

In an interview with Hypebeast in 2017, Alva reflected on how he has witnessed Vans evolve over the years. “I’ve watched Vans come from a little small mom-and-pop business to where it’s $3 Billion a year super successful, and it’s because we stayed true to the game. We’re open to promoting ourselves through things that kids are passionate about: music, art, fashion — but like real fashion done by the kids for the kids — surfing and skateboarding.”

Inside their collaborative collection, Vans and Alva introduce the Authentic 44 DX Alva Skates in Brown/Pink, with leopard-printed suede that recalls the blueprint Alva Skates boards from the ’70s. The silhouette features enlarged logo work that references the skate brand’s original iconography. Elsewhere, the range features the Authentic 44 DX Alva Skates in Halo Multi, which call on the halo effect of ’80s boards with a gradient print, and the Authentic 44 DX Alva Skates in Navy, which pair a quilted canvas upper with a subtle, white lotus pattern.

Rounding out the range, the collaboration offers up an Alva Skates crew fleece with fiery graphics, the OTW T-shirt doused in black-and-white illustrations, loose tapered cargo pants and a bucket hat decorated with Vans and Alva Skates pins.”

The Alva Skates collection will be available beginning January 12 at Vans stores as well as online.

Vans x Awake NY – Old Skool (1.6.23)

https-__hypebeast.com_image_2023_01_awake-ny-vans-old-skool-release-date-8

Info via Hypebeast:

“At first glimpse, Awake NY and Vans might not seem like the most obvious bedfellows: the former is a tight-knit crew that’s all about the hustle, bustle and thriving community of New York City, while the latter is a California-based juggernaut that has come to represent laid-back West Coast cool the world over. However, Awake NY and Vans are united by their shared love of skate, music and cultural history — and now they’ve linked up for two special iterations of the Old Skool that encompass those mutual passions.

Following a collection of three takes on the Sk8-Hi that dropped in October 2021, Awake NY and Vans’ duo of Old Skools is a salute to downtown New York City’s skate and punk culture in the ’90s. Hip-hop was a key piece of this golden era in NYC, so its intersection with punk is nodded to with the collection’s signature yellow and black cow print, which appears across the quarter panels and collars of both pairs. One pair offers a more flamboyant look with green suede accents and a purple Jazz Stripe while the other opts for more muted black accents and embellishments, but both are completed by debossed Awake NY hits on the heel, white laces, a white midsole with black foxing and a classic gum outsole. The shoes can be seen in action via the above lookbook, shot by Matthew Yoscary and featuring film director Kevin Lombardo plus stylist/creative consultant Maurice Diallo.

Expect the Awake NY x Vans Old Skool collection to hit the Awake NY webstore on January 6 at 11 AM EST. They’ll also touch down via atmos and Foot Locker Canada. The MSRP is set at $75 USD.

https-__hypebeast.com_image_2022_12_vault-by-vans-year-of-the-rabbit-billys-release-date-15

info via Hypebeast:

“Vans and Japanese retailer BILLY’s TOKYO are joining forces once again for an exclusive release. Celebrating 2023’s Year of the Rabbit, a Vault by Vans footwear collection has been prepared with thematic touches throughout.

First, three Vans Slip-Ons arrive in red, green and black colorways that feature their primary color alongside an off-white in Vans’ classic checkered pattern. Amongst the geometry, a yin and yang symbol created by white and black rabbits lands across the upper. Each pair’s sockliner and lining features a red that is fitting for Chinese New Year while the rubber sole unit favors an all-white look with a red Vans logo at the heel.

As for the DIY HI VLT LX, a “DESIGN IT YOURSELF” approach is utilized with various Velcro-backed attachments included to decorate it. Combining elements of the Vans Sk8-Hi and Half Cab, the resulting silhouette serves as a fitting canvas for the pair’s many thematic overlays and trinkets.”

Vans Skate x Timberland – Collection (Available Now!)

HO22_HALF_CAB_TIMBERLAND_GROUP_01

DISCLOSURE: This post may contain affiliate links, meaning when you click the links and make a purchase, we receive a commission.

Vans’ iconic Half Cab, a storied skate shoe that was first released in 1992, is nearing the culmination of its year-long 30th-anniversary celebration. Over the past 12 months, a set of releases that encapsulates the Half Cab’s wide-reaching cultural influence have hit shelves, so for the grand finale, it’s only right for the Half Cab to head down a bold new trail and into the world of Timberland. Vans and Timberland have come together for an entirely new hybrid silhouette dubbed the Vans Skateboarding x Timberland Half Cab Hiker, a design that’s half skate shoe, half hiking boot and entirely unique.

The Half Cab Hiker draws equal inspiration from the Half Cab and Timberland’s Euro Hiker, a lightweight yet surprisingly sturdy hiking boot created in 1988 that, just like the Half Cab, has transcended its original purpose to be adopted by a variety of subcultures worldwide. The Euro Hiker’s clean silhouette, earth-inspired colorways and outdoor cred have made it a wintertime staple for style-conscious city dwellers – much in the same way skaters still look to the Half Cab for timeless performance.

With this new capsule, the Half Cab’s familiar ⅝ cut upper is placed on top of Euro Hiker boot tooling and amplified with metal eyestays plus two-tone round boot laces. From a construction standpoint, each pair is made from a combo of canvas and Timberland’s premium leather. There’s also a ReBOTL lining that’s made from at least 50% recycled plastic, helping keep waste out of landfills. Padded leather collars, rubber lug outsoles and co-branded Vans/Timberland detailing round off the look. They come in Wheat and Chocolate/Olive colorways.

Accompanying the duo of Half Cab Hikers is an entirely new take on Timberland’s paradigmatic Premium 6-Inch Waterproof Boots. First introduced in 1973, the 6-Inch Boot provides an instantly recognizable style that’s been revamped by the Vans team for a combination of streetwear, workwear, and skate aesthetics. The Vans Skateboarding x Timberland® 6-Inch Boot comes in Black.

The concept of “meeting in the middle” runs through the products’ DNA, and it’s acknowledged in the accompanying campaign imagery as well. Shot in rural Nebraska — right in between Vans’ sunny California headquarters and Timberland’s majestic New Hampshire base of operations — by celebrity photographer Cian Moore, the imagery showcases both professional models and locals, including Phil Burcher, the owner of Omaha-based Precision Skateboards.

The Vans Skateboarding x Timberland collaboration will touch down on December 20 via Vans retail stores, select Vans retailers, Vans.com, and Timberland.com. The Half Cab Hikers are priced at $160 USD while the 6-Inch Boot retails for $230 USD.

Vault by Vans x WTAPS – Coyote Collection (Available Now!)

Sorry for such late news about these, but by now you’ve seen the first and second drops of this year’s Vault by Vans x WTAPS collection.  It’s a unique one for sure, including some first time pieces from the Vans Snow side.  What’s also new, is the fact that Vans has put the entire collection up on their webstore for purchase.  This is crazy to us!  The only pieces missing are the snowboard boots and the Slip-Er, which I think never made it to production, or it was just an Asia exclusive.  Don’t quote me on that one.

This time around, they went with a sick Coyote colorway for the entire collection, done up entirely in a smooth nubuck suede.  We also got two iconic crossbones designs out of this release, which is always a fan favorite amongst WTAPS Vans collectors. The apparel and accessories that accompany the shoes are top notch, coming in the same earthy tones that WTAPS is known for.  Check ’em out!

Pairs are still available, even though these came out around a month ago, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.  It either means the hype is dying down, or Vans just doubled down on production on these, so double up if you can, as we all agree that this collection is timeless.

Vault by Vans x Our Legacy – Sk8-Mid LX (12.10.22)

https-__hypebeast.com_image_2022_12_our-legacy-work-shop-vans-sk8-mid-lx-khaki-deadstock-suede-canvas-release-information-5

Our Legacy is a brand of the moment, following up on its British fabric collection, Baracuta collaboration, Stüssy jacket, Dr. Martens reworking, and Dickies drop with yet another team-up, this time around tapping Vans. Taking the skate stalwart’s signature Vans Sk8-Mid LX, Our Legacy WORK SHOP delivers a shoe indebted to its sustainable practice — using deadstock materials to realize its next collab.

Served in a “Hummus” hue, the sneaker is made with a deadstock suede and organic cotton canvas upper that’s intersected with a white leather Jazz Stripe across the mids. At the rear, Our Legacy WORK SHOP’s Yin Yang logo is embroidered into the heels, sitting alongside the classic “Off The Wall” license plate on the vulcanized white rubber sole unit.

Naturally, the underneath reveals a rubber waffle outsole that provides grip — perfect for skateboarding — while premium touches like leather lining make this collaborative pair fit for all occasions formal or chilled. A high foxing midsole and tonal laces complete the look alongside traditional tongue tab branding.

Our Legacy WORK SHOP’s Vans Sk8-Mid LX retails for £95 GBP (approximately $116 USD) and comes in sizes U.S. 5.5 to U.S. 12. Take a closer look at the sneaker above and pick them up from Our Legacy stores and online now.

Vans Skate x Sci-Fi Fantasy – Skate Half Cab & Skate Sid (12.8.22)

https-__hypebeast.com_image_2022_12_vans-sci-fi-fantasy-half-cab-skate-sid-release-date-1

info via Hypebeast:

“Following up on its ’90s tech-inspired collaboration from 2020, Jerry Hsu‘s Sci-Fi Fantasy is leaping back into the sneaker ring to reunite with Vans Skateboarding for a second initiative. This time around, the skater and photographer elected to rework the Skate Half Cab ’92 VCU and Skate Sid VCU models with luxe materials and bold accents.

Starting out with the Skate Half Cab ’92 VCU, the kicks are anchored by their Eden green suede upper overlays that are attached to the toe boxes and quarter panels. Chinese letters are another primary design element of the kicks as they are printed in tonal fashion across the collars and mid-foot windows, as well as the heels in a bold, flame-y orange tone. Extra hits arrive by way of exposed white stitchings that outline each of the base layer’s panels.

The Skate Sid VCU pair in this assemblage is constructed with a more elevated presentation. Uppers are fitted with stark black cracked leather which also is accessorized with angelic stitchings. Flying V insignias that rest on the mid-foot along with the “Vans Sci-Fi” co-branding on the tongues each stand out with more fiery essence as well.”

Select Vans Skateboarding retailers are set to drop this collection on December 8, 2022.
