Hot off the presses, Vault by Vans partners with Brooklyn-based LQQK Studio, a screen-printing and design service collection with deep roots in art, fashion, skate and street culture. An eclectic mix between throwback style and translucent color themes, the new LQQK Studio project highlights a full range of apparel and footwear, available at select accounts this spring.

Founded by NYC creative Alex Dondero, along with Paul Bryant, Max Feuer, Martin Davis and Joe Garvey, LQQK Studio collaborates with a rotating cast of contributors that remain at the forefront of creative expression. Akin to Vans’ most cherished limited-run collections, LQQK Studio’s distinctive clothing line quickly became a cult following since 2011, catching the attention of New York’s best style purveyors, music lovers and streetwear aficionados.

Vans x Lazy Oaf – Collection (April 2018)

SP18_Classics_LazyOaf_0008

Words via Vans:

“Vans, the original action sports and apparel brand collaborates with independent, London-based fashion brand, Lazy Oaf to present a head-to-toe collection available exclusively for women. Vans has blended its “Off The Wall” aesthetic with Lazy Oaf’s tongue in cheek attitude to bring forth a collection of Classic footwear, apparel and accessories debuting this month.

“Vans and Lazy Oaf fans are very similar” says Gemma Shiel, Lazy Oaf’s Founder and Creative Director. “Everyone that wears both Lazy Oaf and Vans are nonconventional and “keep it weird” in an irreverent and playful way.”

The Vans x Lazy Oaf collection showcases a vision of youthful creativity by bringing Lazy Oaf’s edgy weirdness and notoriously colorful aesthetic to a range of Vans apparel and accessories. Using a distinct color palette of pink, black and white, the Vans x Lazy Oaf apparel collection uses checkerboard and playful Lazy Oaf elements. The Sorry I’m Late Tee is fitted with embroidery at the chest and checker trim down the sleeves. The Off The Wall Tee uses an oversized fit that includes checkerboard printed neck rib and a zany embroidery detail at the chest. The Checkerboard Tee combines a sport stripe neck with checkerboard trim down the sleeves and is finished with Vans Flying V logo. The Bear Floral Bodysuit boldly displays checkerboard print with embroidered floral details and a crisscross back. The eyeball check pattern covers the A-line skirt that makes the perfect pairing for the collection. The baby doll style dress has been remastered to include a t-shirt style top with an oversized fit and is available in two cheeky styles. Street and sportswear influence can be seen across the Bear Floral Crew and Off The Wall Lazy Hoodie.

Key accessories include the Eyeball Backpack and Bear Bag, which each use checker printed straps. The Off The Wall Lazy Cap may seem like a classic baseball shape but it has been updated to include an oversized checker printed ribbon tie at the back. The classic ribbed sock receives the Lazy Oaf treatment and will be available in three colorways that include playful stripe, check and heart details.

The collection wraps up at your feet with four Classic footwear styles. The Old Skool Platform is taken to new heights and showcases black suede uppers that have been decked out with checkerboard printed laces and a pink Sidestripe. Adorning the platform sidewall are novelty cutouts that display three white hearts. Each Old Skool Platform style is finished with cheeky embroidery that reads ‘Bad for you” at each heel counter. A reissue of Vans Style 29 has been designed to include canvas pink uppers and is contrasted by a black lugged outsole and toe cap. The Style 29 is finished with playful “Sorry I’m Late” laces and a checkerboard liner. Vans’ checkerboard pattern has been reimaged to include Lazy Oaf’s eyeball print and if finished with a pink foxing stripe and bold black outsole for an edgy new take on one of Vans’ most iconic silhouettes. style. Rounding out the footwear assortment is the Authentic which receives a delicate floral upper and is juxtaposed by a black outsole for just the right amount of edge.”

Words via Vans, and pics via Highsnobiety:

“Vans, the original action sports and apparel brand, unites with iconic hip-hop collective, A Tribe Called Quest and Sony Music’s innovative merchandising company The Thread Shop, to unveil an exclusive footwear collection that sees a true creative homage come to life.

Paying tribute to the style, art, music, and originality of the artist’s immense cultural influence since the early 1990s, Vans celebrates A Tribe Called Quest’s outstanding contributions to music and pop culture with footwear designs that memorialize their iconic album artwork and the vibrant song lyrics forever embraced by the 90s zeitgeist and beyond. The exclusive collection offers a range of Vans classic silhouettes including the Slip-On, UltraRange, Old Skool, Slip-On, Authentic, Sk8-Hi and Era in bold colors and prints, illustrating the group’s most favorite milestones of their career.

For A Tribe Called Quest fans, the footwear designs speak volumes to the band’s beloved discography. The Slip-On style highlights the cover artwork from A Tribe Called Quest’s 2016 album, We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service, with embroidery of the album title, while the Era features an all-over graphic print of album covers spanning from 1990 to 2016. Based on The Anthology album artwork, the group’s rendition of the Old Skool features a classic black on black colorway. The Sk8-Hi features odes to their well-known Bonita Applebaum track with album artwork and printed lyrics on the shoelaces, quarter panels and lining. And a truly special rendition comes from the Authentic, which honors the life of the late Phife Dawg, who passed away in 2015. Lastly, the group’s version of Vans’ newest silhouette, the UltraRange, features black leather uppers with a contrasting red Sidestripe.”
