SoCal based boutique Blends continues its ongoing partnership with Vans Vault, this time re-working the OG Epoch LX for the first time.  The shoe features Blends iconic bone motif applied to the Epoch’s unique Flying “V” logo. The tonal leather logo is accented by a premium hairy suede upper, waxed laces and a full-leather internal construction. These two Southern California icons took to the old town district of Binondo located in Manila, Philippines to showcase the latest incarnation of this storied partnership.

Vault By Vans x Blends – OG Epoch LX “Bones” (2.29.20 & UTP Review!)

IMG_9836

When we first caught a sneak peek at the next set of Blends Vans to come our way, we were all stoked to see them use a new shoe for their iconic Bones catalog, with the Epoch or Style 73 as it was originally called.  This silo has a very unique flying V logo that is exclusive to this shoe, and we’re sure Blends didn’t want to take away from that.  Adding their unmistakable signature Bones styling to that flying V was the right move.  Some might say “more bones???”, but we say “MORE BONES!!!”.  We absolutely love these, and will be looking to double up if possible.

The shoe features hairy suede throughout, except for the marshmallow premium leather accents by way of the bones and the heel mustache.  These feature marshmallow colored vulc soles, in the new Vault Originals shape, complete with glossy foxing tape, shrunken waffle grip, and that sexy, curvy sidewall!  There’s minimal Blends branding on the heelpad, and the shoe comes with two pairs of laces, one being waxed marshmallow, and the other black standard.  The Blends all-black drawer box and dustbag are also back for this release.  We’ve taken a grip of photos, including a few in the alternate lace option.  I could seriously go with either and be completely satisfied.

We’ve all been waiting for Blends to give us a release date, and I can confidently say these will be releasing in two weeks, on Saturday Feb. 29th, at all chapter stores as well as online.  You’ve heard it here first!

Under The Palms x Kyle Sliney – “Rocket Times” Tee (Now Available For Pre-Order!)

FastTimesUTPWhiteback

Inspired by an iconic movie that plays a big part of our Vans culture, we wanted to pay homage to this movie, and upcoming sneaker release, by bringing you this awesome graphic tee, designed by our bro, UTP OG Kyle “rocketgoof” Sliney, aka @iamrocketkyle, aka Pop Rocket Creations. I’ve had this idea for awhile, and I couldn’t go to anyone else but Kyle, for this retro design. He absolutely nailed it.

We will be printing up a limited run of these in either Black or White, but you know you can’t pick just one, so order both! Printed on the same Shaka Retro 6.5 oz soft tee that we used for our last design, which we got nothing but great feedback on, so we’ll continue to use it. Glad y’all liked our decision to go with those! (Also, the t-shirt mockup pics are simulated, but the graphic will be 13″ wide on back, and 4″ wide on front)

Pre-order pricing in effect for 2 weeks only, and will end on Friday 2/28 so don’t sleep. Oh, and of course we will have a special themed sticker-pak for all of you who pre-order.

In terms of contemporary fashion, few footwear styles are as immediately recognizable as the Vans Checkerboard Slip-On. The Classic Slip-On debuted in 1977, with the Checkerboard pattern being introduced in the early 1980’s after the Van Doren’s noticed kids drawing checks all over their shoes. Shortly thereafter, the Checkerboard Slip-On became a global icon for the spirit of the Vans brand thanks to its inclusion in the cult classic film, Fast Times at Ridgemont High. For the first time since the film’s premiere, Vans will reissue a limited-edition Fast Times Slip-On through its Anaheim Factory Collection, celebrating the shoe’s transcendence to popular culture and its all-time classic styling.

The Checkerboard Slip-On’s film appearance cemented Vans’ place as a staple of Southern California style. In celebration of the film’s release, Steve Van Doren, son of Vans’ founder, made a limited run of Fast Times Slip-On’s to giveaway at the Hollywood premiere. The limited nature of the Fast Times design has become one of the most covetable archived styles of the Vans Checkerboard Slip-On. Vans brings back the silhouette in its original design and construction method within the Anaheim Factory Collection.

The Vans Anaheim Factory Slip-On 98 DX uses 10 oz. heavy weight Checkerboard canvas uppers and a higher foxing stripe. Like each shoe in the initial promotional run released in 1982, the new Fast Times Checkerboard Slip-On is characterized by a wraparound Fast Times print along the foxing of the vulcanized waffle sole. The shoe has been modernized for today with a Vans UltraCush™ footbed for ultimate comfort.

You’ll have to act fast; the Vans Anaheim Factory Slip-Ons will be available for a limited time online and in select Vans dealers this March. For more information, please visit vans.com/news.

Vault By Vans x Jim Goldberg – Raised By Wolves Collection (Feb. 2020)

https-_hypebeast.com_image_2020_02_jim-goldberg-vans-collaboration-old-skool-slip-on-sk8-hi-lx-tv-static-acid-wash-leather-1

Words via Hypebeast:

“Vans has tapped the American artist and photographer Jim Goldberg for a three-piece capsule collection comprised of a Slip-On OG LX, an Old Skool LX and a Sk8-Hi LX.

The collaboration brings a unique twist to each silhouette, with the Slip-On sporting an all-over “TV Static” canvas design, the Old Skool coming in an acid-washed denim effect and the Sk8-Hi appearing in all-leather, which has been inscribed with words and names all over.

Goldberg’s standout pair is the Slip-On, as its “TV Static” canvas is contrasted with a crisp white vulcanized sole unit that’s adorned with the artist’s signature aesthetic — hand-written text this time around stating “Put quarters in the jukebox and bitch about the music,” as well as “I want to piss on the moon.” All three pairs are finished with red co-branded insoles that reference Goldberg’s non-fiction multimedia work, Raised by Wolves.”

These have started to arrive at a few Europe Vault dealers, with prices ranging from €80 EUR to €110 EUR (approx. $88 — $121 USD).

SP20_SandyLiang_Footwear_Collection

Vans, the original action sports brand and advocate for creative expression, is proud to partner with New York fashion designer, Sandy Liang for a limited-edition collection set to debut February 21. Known for mixing materials, colors and prints for a bold but youthful take on fashion, Liang brings her signature design approach creating a unique take on five of Vans Classic footwear styles alongside an apparel and accessories assortment for a head-to-toe product offering. Liang draws inspiration from her hometown of Bayside, Queens, her grandma and the hand-me-downs from her youth and her collection with Vans embodies the magnetism and playfulness of those lifelong creative influences.

“To see my ideas come to life on such an iconic collection of footwear and apparel is a dream come true” said Sandy Liang. “This collection embodies the playful dreaminess of the nineties, as well as the grittiness of downtown New York City.”

Across each of the Vans x Sandy Liang footwear iterations, materials play a defining role. From fleece-like cheetah prints to metal jewelry affixed directly to the uppers, each is as unique as the last. With a built-in ankle bracelet and metals charms sewn directly to the pink velour upper, the Sandy Liang Era stands out as the hero of the five-piece assortment. A complimentary Old Skool is dressed in pink velour inspired by the couch found in Liang’s Lower East Side Studio and is updated with crisscross chain detailing. A second Old Skool is dedicated to the L.E.S. and showcases black canvas uppers and exposed white lock stitching, custom Sandy Liang cotton laces, butterfly adorned outsoles and custom stitching on each heel. Liang reimagines Vans’ Platform Slip-On with snow leopard fur which covers the entirety of the shoe – from upper to sole. Rounding out the assortment is the Vans Sport paying homage to the designer’s hometown of Bayside, NYC. The Vans Sport features canvas leopard uppers on one side and a traditional tartan plaid on the medial side complimented with a checkerboard printed heel tab and custom laces.

The Vans x Sandy Liang nine-piece apparel and accessories assortment perfectly encapsulates ‘90s nostalgia through the use of marbled colorways, butterfly iconography and bejeweled detailing. Key apparel styles include the Sandy BF Hoodie that offers an exaggerated boyfriend fit with novelty eyelets, piercing details around the hood, embroidered branding and zip code accents. The Sandy LS BF Tee is made with a heavy cotton jersey with an allover cloud wash featuring a bleach application that reveals a butterfly graphic and checkerboard printed sleeves. The cycling inspired Sandy Bike Short is a cotton spandex blend with novelty midnight navy snakeskin print. For the ultimate ‘90s look, the Sandy Tank, plush pant and crop hoodie give the ultimate in statement comfort as an homage to sport-inspired track suits. The Sandy Polo is inspired by a throwback worth bringing back and the Sandy Jumpsuit is dressed up in lotus pink with flat rivets around the collar and out seam with 10002 embroidered at the chest. Using a gas-station style jacket as inspiration, Sandy Liang has applied an all-over polka dot print to both a jacket and bucket hat. Rounding out the accessory’s assortment are the Sandy Fanny with metal chain and hardware, the Sandy Crossbody featuring faux shearling, and the Sandy Sock in both the lotus and white colorways

To celebrate the debut of the Vans x Sandy Liang collection, please join Vans and Sandy Liang for an exclusive pop-up shopping experience at The General by Vans retail location at 102 N. 6th St. Brooklyn, NY 11249. Vans has gotten together with Noah NY to create two Sk8-Hi Decons in an all suede make-up.  Available in either a Tobacco or Petrol colorway, with silver lace eyelets, and custom Noah branding on the tongue tag.  Very minimalistic, yet the colorways are original, so when you see someone rocking these out in the streets, you’ll know they know what’s up.  These are currently sold out on their webstore, but perhaps they still have a few in-store and sometimes they do restock online, so check back often.

Vans x Zhao Zhao – Year of the Rat (Jan. 2020)

SP20_YearOfTheRat_GROUP

Words via Hypebeast & Pics via Vansfans:

“Vans has just given us a look at its Lunar New Year “Year of the Rat” collection. With a little over a month until Chinese New Year 2020, we take a look at the three models that are part of the special pack. Arriving in the form of the Sk8-Hi, Era Lacey, and Comfycush Slip-Skool, Vans has elected to work with Beijing/Los Angeles-based artist Zhao Zhao.

The former assistant to Ai Weiwei has chosen to interpret the daily travels of a city rat onto each pair. Each sneaker adorns the perspective of a street rat and the various city elements the animal is exposed to while foraging on a daily basis. The pack is comprised of three silhouettes; the Vans Era, constructed in monotone suede with a conceptualized rat hole penetrating from toe to heel; the Sk8-Hi, made to resemble a network for underground tunnels; and finally, the Comfycush Slip-Skool, which sees a network graphic upper under a translucent layer. All three pairs feature a multi-layered Vans “Off the Wall” rubber heel stamp that is meant to signify the rat’s tail.”

These are starting to release across Asia, but a few US spots have also received these, like Hot Rod, and The Darkside Initiative, so ask around if you’re looking for these!

Vans Anaheim Factory – “Fast Times” Slip-On 98 DX (Coming Soon!)

[fbvideo link=”https://www.facebook.com/UNDERTHEPALMS/videos/490942768229813/” width=”620″ height=”620″ onlyvideo=”1″]

This is probably the biggest news we’ve received this decade!!!  Vans is bringing back the most rare and coveted shoe by us Vans collectors, the Fast Times Slip-On!  They did it right, by making it an Anaheim Factory shoe as well, staying as close to the original Made In USA pair as possible, right down to the custom “Fast Times” vulcanized scene tape graphic.  Not sure about you, but I’m gonna need like 4 pairs!  Rumors say these are either coming next month, or in March, and we are not sure if Vans will set a hard release date for these, since they haven’t done that with any Anaheim release just yet, but they just might need to with the hype that this release is surely going to bring.  I’ve already been hit up by some friends to see about doing a cool release party for these, but that’s pretty dependent on having a specific release date.  Anyways, we don’t have any info yet, just a teaser put out by Vans, so enjoy!
