Vans California x Offspring – Era 59 CA (Summer 2012)

Words via Offspring:

“Offspring and Vans continue to cement their long standing relationship with yet another utterly unique and exclusive pack of Era 59 california. As our affiliation with Vans goes back such a long way, we felt it was only right to pay homage to their skating heritage with a few quirky details.

One key design feature to note is the matte textured rubber toe box. The idea behind this is to act as a direct reference to the grip tape used on a skateboard. This approach has never been done before and has been mixed with premium leather on the tongue, heel and flag. The middle quarters are also given the Vans California premium treatment with rich suede. These new and exclusive Era 59 California’s are extremely limited in numbers so you will need to be quick to secure yourself a piece of Vans v Offspring history.”

Vans x Supreme MC “Mike Carroll” Comparison (by @jacobmontana)

OTWS member jacobmontana is the unofficial spokesperson for the Mike Carroll signature Vans shoe.  He has somehow amassed every single original colorway of the OG, “made in the USA” models, and when Supreme released the MC last year, you can imagine the backflipping and fist pumps that were going on in front of his computer when he got the news.  Well, fast forward to two weeks ago, and another surprise MC release was dropped on us, this time in a few OG colorways, as well as some more current, “Supreme-esque” colors.  Perhaps that’s why this release sold much more quickly.  Who am I kidding?  It’s because of the Supremies!  (copyrighted…jk).  Well enough of that.  Jacobmontana has taken some time out to give us a quick comparison of the OG and the Supreme version.  The first thing you may notice, is the shape.  I guess Vans didn’t have an original to work with, because the material overlap, and the stitching seem to not really match.  It’s as if it was reconstructed based off of photos or a drawing.  It’s close, but no cigar!  Of course, the vulcanized rubber is different as well, since the originals were crafted in the USA and a different rubber compound was utilized back then.  For the most part, that’s it.  I’m still grateful that we get to even own a “retro” if you will, of one of the most sought after OG Vans, and it’s all thanks to Supreme and Vans.  Big thanks to jacobmontana for sharing some pics for all of us!

Vans x Primitive – “Cable Knit” Half Cab (Coming Soon!)

Check it out, check it out!  Primitive’s very first Vans collab is due out very soon, by way of this classy looking Half Cab.  Primitive went with a cable knit wool material found on your favorite beanie or ugly Christmas sweater, but somehow made it acceptable and cool looking.  That’s right.  Cool looking.  What other Vans shoe can you think of, that utilized a cable knit material?  I can’t.  The shoe is covered in a clean looking gray suede material, with a black inner lining and tongue tag. There’s also a Primitive logo on the rubber heel tab as well.  One main focal point of this shoe though, has got to be the metal Half Cab plate on the side of the shoe, which all of us here at OTWS are stoked to see on the final production model, as a lot of details like this get left in the dust, to cut costs, or appease professional skaters who don’t want their shoe altered in any way, *cough, cough*!  And last, but not least, as every collaboration project should have, an accessory will be accompanying each pair, in the form of a cable knit beanie that has the Vans skateboard logo, with the words “On The Blvd” inside it, one of Primitive’s well-known trademark quotes, referencing Ventura Blvd., where they reside at, in Encino, CA.  What, did you think you were getting a cardigan?!  Well done Primitive!  Now…if only we could work out some sort of special reservation list for all of us over here at OTWS!  Oh, and thanks Mr. Andy Netkin, for always hash tagging your Vans pics on Instagram with #OTWS, which all of you should do whenever you post up anything Vans related!  That’s how it shows up on our Instagram feed located in the upper right corner.  You support us, and we support you back!

Vans x Fucking Awesome – Authentic (samples)

Vans and Fucking Awesome.  How fucking awesome is this news?!  There’s been a few sightings since last week, of Jason Dill hanging out around Supreme LA in some “Fucking Awesome” Authentics, and finally someone was able to snap a photo of them.  Naturally, the rumors started flying, and one of them was that this was an upcoming Syndicate release.  Dill has made mention before that he is going to be working with Syndicate on a few things in the near future, and perhaps this is one creation.  Now, naturally his brand Fucking Awesome draws a lot of attention and controversy with just it’s name, so I don’t expect these to be a widespread release.  You most likely won’t find these in your “mom and pop” Syndicate accounts!  Anyways, for now just enjoy this pic, and if any news comes our way, I’ll be sure to pass this on.  If it does release, I need a pair!

Vans x Supreme – MC “Mike Carroll signature” Nubuck (Review!)

It has been a long damn time since I’ve given a Vans sneaker review.  I wish I had a great excuse, but I don’t.  Perhaps it’s been the lack of new pickups lately.  Perhaps it’s because there hasn’t been a release in awhile, worthy of one.  Who knows?  Well I’m proud to announce that all of my hard earned money, was spent on all four colorways of the latest Supreme x Vans drop!  What?  Is that a surprise?  It’s Supreme…they don’t need to hook anybody up with stuff.  I mean, they hook up friends, but let’s just say that that’s a pretty small circle that many would give their left nut to be in.  Me on the other hand, I just love Vans, and I love OTWS.  I don’t necessarily love you guys, but I do like you guys, and that’s why I spend time keeping you all informed about all things Vans!  You stay interested in Vans, and I’ll stay interested in providing info for you all.  Deal?  Deal.

Anyways, here’s the latest Supreme collaboration with Vans.  This release blindsided everybody in our Vans community, because we were expecting a few other releases that matched the apparel from this season.  The majority of us were stoked to see that Supreme had designed another set of Mike Carroll’s, this time using suede nubuck as the material of choice, and offering them up in some more traditional Supreme colorways: Black, White, Red, and Blue.  They’re perfect…well except for one major gripe from me.  The ankle collar padding!  What’s with the cardboard-like stiffness huh?  Is this going to be the new standard?  It’s the same padding that is being used on the 20th Anniversary Half Cabs in case you need a comparison.  It feels sort of like there’s some type of memory foam in there, but I’m still skeptical that there’s any technological benefit to it, and that it’s rather just a cheaper production method.  I would like an explanation please!  That’s my only real issue with the shoe.  Other than that, the shoe is great.  Even the softness of the colors are fine with me.  The press pics from Supreme shown these as being a deep red, and blue, but my detailed high-res pics will let you be the judge of that.

I want to thank you for taking the time to read my review, and if you can, please follow us on twitter @offthewallsite, and like our facebook page, which can be found if you scroll down along the right column of this page.  Hope you enjoy what we’re doing over here!

Vans x Slam City Skates Store (United Kingdom)

Words via Hypebeast:

Slam City Skates is a well-known skate institution on the streets of London. They’ve just opened an exclusive Vans collaboration store in the basement of their own Covent Garden Store. If you’re in the area, swing through and check out photography by Greg Hunt, and share a beer or three with the Slam City crew. If you’re not, don’t worry — you can still cruise the Slam City’s full line of Vans shoes here.”

Vans x XLARGE – Old Skool “Tropical Camouflage” (Japan Only)

Wow, check out these sick Old Skools from XLARGE and Vans!  Part of XLARGE’s “Tropical Camouflage” capsule collection, I assume these will accompany some apparel as well.  Notice the tiger camo detail on the side of the shoes, and that it’s all embroidered.  XLARGE added their own flavor to a probably over-done camo print, by adding fruits into it, thus making for an unmistakeable shoe.  As with most XLARGE x Vans collabos, these will be an overseas exclusive, so unless you know someone crafty with the Japanese websites, you’ll be stuck paying resellers pricing if any happen to show up!

Vans Syndicate – Hosoi Bash Vulc “S” Restocked @Silostore !

Who wished they didn’t miss out on the Syndicate Hosoi Bash Vulc “S”?  The Bash model from Vans was born in the Syndicate line, as part of the W)Taps lineup for the 008 Syndicate release.  It was later remade into a version with a vulcanized sole for the legendary Christian Hosoi.  These are highly slept on, and as most Syndicates go, you end up wanting them later on.  Well you can all rejoice, because Silo just picked up a restock on these gems, in limited sizes.  Give them a call, and see what they still got.  I’m sure Brant will take a phone order for you.  Tell him Billy from OTWS sent you!
