Vans’ history and its life-long bond with the skate and surf culture began in 1966 in Southern California and the rolling out of a single pair of shoes: the Authentic. Generations since have embraced this simple beacon of the Vans heritage for its unbiased effectiveness, recognizable design, and versatility. This Authentic CA’s traditional Paisley patterns in Limoges and Olivine receive their characteristic appearance from a printing technique that draws color out of fabric instead of pasting it on. A process, through which the intricacy of Paisley is mitigated and lets it speak a humbler language of color. Transitions from background to foreground and back are blurred, and a look established that refuses to be pigeon-holed. Inspired by a classic bandana aesthetic, red pop color linings emphasize a deliberate design strategy that comes full-circle with silver eyelets, round woven laces, and pigskin hangflags.

A literal twist on tie-die techniques, Ikat fabric is created by binding fibers around one another prior to dyeing and weaving. Classic chambray serves as the basis for this season’s Era CA in Ikat-treated Dress Blues adding subdued white and red digital print pattern accents to its consistent notion of modern elegance. “Vans California presents the Authentic “Paisley” pack for Fall 2013. For this release, the Vans Authentic silhouette is featured in two paisley-based colorways: blue and green. The blue colorway features a blue canvas base with a light blue, all-over paisley print; inside is a bold red lining which mimics the color of the shoes outsole. The green colorway sports a green canvas base with a light green, all-over paisley print and a lime green lining with echoes the color used for the outsole. “Another one of the strong silhouettes that was displayed at the Agenda Show Long Beach this week from Vans was a special Classic range, Old Skool in “Snake Red/Gold.” Perhaps giving nod to a former Supreme collaborations, the pair is mocked up in a red suede upper that is paired with contrasting black laces, a pure white vulcanized sole, and a hit of gold metallic snakeskin on the side branding. A simply yet powerful execution, fans of these will have to wait until the beginning of next year to purchase. Stay tuned for more release info, although these should be easier to access as they’ll be arriving as a part of the Vans Classic range.”

“An additional look into Vans California‘s upcoming “Overwashed” Pack also arrives courtesy of the Agenda Show Long Beach in the form of an Authentic Royal Blue iteration. Following on the heels of a nostalgic checkerboard Slip-On preview, the classic blue Authentic sees a similar heavily washed and distressed treatment that creates a decidedly aged aesthetic. Featuring indigo coloring and staining along the vulcanized outsole and midsole, the upper sees washed out segments as well as stained laces and a slightly distorted shape given the heavy wash treatment.”
